Poem #14

I've cried enough tears,
more than the Niagra Falls can hold
after the day you left me,
and left a million cuts on my heart and mind.

You engulfed my mind in self-doubt,
and enough sadness to build a bridge over my tears,
the kind of sadness that overwhelms and takes over your body,
leaving you in heartache and physical exhaustion.

I fell into your mind tricks,
I wanted to shut myself down,
but I broke the wall you forced me to put up,
to leave myself vulnerable,
not for you,
but for the others who still need me.

Each time you walk back in
you tell me you love me,
making me believe that long enough until your next attack
that stains me with permanent guilt,
and strip me of self-worth.
