Sydney

"Evangeline, wow. Just wow, this place is so beautiful." I gushed, as I was being shown around her beautiful Parisian apartment.

I had finally felt comfortable to ask if I could have a peak around her place. It was so big, with large windows and tall ceilings. She told me it was the apartment of her dreams, her final home. I couldn't wait to find that place for myself.

I wondered if I'd end up in London, Paris, New York, maybe Australia. Maybe I was destined to live on a beach somewhere, forever tanned and reading Joan Didion books.

Sydney in Sydney.

"Thank you Sydney. It took me a long time to settle down, but I came back to the place I was born and I don't think I'll ever leave." She smiled, a glimmer in her eye, hinting at something I couldn't pinpoint.

We continued back into the main living room area, which is where we had our conversations. We had some tea waiting on the coffee table which Evangeline made when I arrived.

She had become more than a therapist, she was a dear friend. She was truly kind and patient, I knew I would trust her forever.

I would miss her so much.

"So, I think I know what is coming." She grinned, as we sat on our respective chairs and sipped some tea.

I gave a small nod, "I'm ready. I'm definitely scared of the unknown, what is to come, but I'm ready."

"I agree. I think you've made some amazing progress, you've started a beautiful new journey and I was only the beginning of that. Where are you going to go?" She asked, placing her teacup down.

"I'm going to keep the Paris apartment and sign a new lease. I really love it and don't wanna let it go just yet. I'm going to visit my grand-mère in Cannes for a few weeks and then...I'm not entirely sure." I giggled, feeling excited about this new adventure.

It was early April and the blossom trees were in full bloom around the city. Outside the windows I could see the pink flowers blending in the terraced buildings. A beautiful backdrop to my final session.

"That sounds amazing. How much of the last 6 months is your grand-mère aware of?" She continued.

"Majority of it. She's aware of Harry and I's split, she also knows of my addiction issues. I called her a few months ago and told her I was taking some time to self reflect, she said I was welcome whenever I wanted to inch back into the real world." I explained.

"I think that's great, I'm very jealous of how beautiful and sunny it'll be. A beachside reset will be lovely, and a great catch-up with your grandmere." Evangeline answered, shutting her book.

She didn't really need it anymore

"I haven't seen her in so long and I don't want a strain on the relationship anymore. She's really the only family I have left." The sad confession was true, but I wasn't ashamed of it. I wanted to value the people in my life, not feel controlled by them.
