Desert Breath by Danae Stratou
"I think. I think I understand it now."
There's a weight that descends around them with those words. Something solid and powerful and... un-take-backable.
Jungkook hesitates and—he looks like he's gonna cry but he has the most brilliant smile spreading across his face and it's enough to make a heart tear straight down the middle. He stands on the counter, legs braced and hands laced in front of him, everything at his feet. The world bent before him, waiting.
"I need to get a job." He says simply.
Jimin glances at Taehyung, Jin smiles up at him supportively and Namjoon looks like he's about to get a migraine.
"He's welcome to take mine," he growls as he pulls out his phone.
Jin smacks him over the head at the same time Yoongi pushes open the door followed by Hoseok and asks, "What the hell is going on?"
Jungkook blinks at them.
"Took you two long enough." Taehyung throws them a frustrated evil-eye.
Jimin clears his throat loudly. "I'm sorry, am I missing something?" He turns to Taehyung, "Did you fire him?!"
"Baby, I would never do that!"
Somewhere, someone gags.
"I still don't understand how you two could be an hour late," Jin turns on Hoseok and Yoongi who blink back at him. "Because I get that you're... new or whatever but seriously, not the time to be going at it in a closet!"
Yoongi looks like he's going to combust and Hoseok just looks pissed.
"Why are we even here Kook?"
Jin throws a withering glare in Namjoon's direction, "Honey, lovingly, shut up."
"If you're looking to get a job Jungkook you should do it soon," Yoongi says with a frown, "hiring rates plummet during the summer."
"Why would he need a job?!" Jimin shouts, this close to getting on a table himself.
Jungkook crosses his arms and announces loudly, "None of you understand what it's like to be a pen tailed tree shrew!"
They all fall silent.
"Okay, okay, I think we all need to take a step back here—"

Yoongi and Hoseok spend most of the morning trying to decide where to eat. They walk into at least five different cafes/restaurants and one grill(?) and always find a reason why they should go someplace better. Most of the in-betweens are general awkward musings about their surroundings, ("I like their hair", "that door is lovely", "what a fucking stupid way of spelling coffee") and lots and lots of bickering. So much so that it prompts Hoseok to jokingly comment, "We're gonna be one of those couples, aren't we?" With a widespread, fond grin on his face.
Yoongi had turned to him, and grumbled a confused "What?" and Hoseok had simply answered, "The old married couple that always argues."
This left Yoongi reeling for at least twenty minutes at the thought of him and Hoseok in the same sentence as 'couple', let alone married.
