Chapter Forty-one

-

The key twisted in the door and it opened cautiously. As Luke entered the flat he saw Aaron sat at the dining table. There was nothing in front of him but a mug of coffee. He was staring straight ahead. Luke wondered if he was waiting for him. Quietly Luke shut the door. Luke contemplated just walking straight past. Maybe he could move through the flat without coming into contact with Aaron.

Luke took a step towards their bedroom when he heard the mug scrape across the table. Luke peered back over at Aaron. Aaron was now watching him, inspecting him. Luke smiled nervously but he didn't move anymore.

"I knew your plans, Luke," Aaron said finally. Luke knew he should have brought Ashton with him. But, he wanted to do this alone. To show Aaron that he could be strong and independent.

"To run away with him—" Luke stated, his voice shaky.

Aaron laughed and clutched his mug of coffee harder. "I should have known. I should have known we couldn't be like we used to be. And when you didn't answer the phone I called reception to ask if you were alone and I knew there's only one person you'd be with. All of this is your fault, Luke!"

Luke shook his head, his hands clammy up against the door. "No. I don't want to argue with you, Aaron. I just wanted to tell you and then leave."

"And you thought I'd take it well! Let the love of my life go off with someone else!" Aaron was standing now, his coffee was spilt over the table.

"No— I— I don't know what I expected. I just didn't want to leave you in the unknown."

"How kind!" Aaron mocked stepping closer to Luke. Luke was trapped against the door. Aaron could easily grab him wherever he tried to move. "But you can't leave me, Luke. We're together forever."

Luke shook his head more rapidly. His head banging against the door. "No. Ashton's waiting for me outside—"

"Your knight in shining armour! He can whisk you away but I'll always be up here," Aaron said, leaning forward and tapping Luke's temple. Luke tried to duck out of his way but his nerves delayed his response. "I'm part of you know Luke. I am part of your thinking."

"I just want to get some stuff and leave. I don't want to get you in trouble!"

"I've done nothing wrong," Aaron shrugged.

"I've got marks for evidence, Ashton says it's enough!"

"Half of those marks are from yourself, did you tell him that? They won't believe you!"

"They will. Please Aaron just let me get some stuff."

Aaron shook his head and laughed. "You're not leaving me, Luke."

Luke was shaking now. He just wanted to walk backwards through the door. He didn't care about his stuff anymore. "Ashton, he's outside—"

Aaron stepped closer. Luke could feel his breath on his face. He shivered. "Ashton won't do anything. I warned him what would happen if he got involved again, but it seems like he doesn't care about you that much." Aaron ran his finger down Luke's cheek and then kissed it softly. Luke tried to move out of the way but he was trapped. He stood helplessly against the door trying to hold back tears.

"Please," he whispered. "I don't want this anymore—" Aaron's hands were now moving slowly down his body. Luke closed his eyes tightly shut.

"I don't care what you want Luke. You're not leaving this flat. I was stupid to trust you—"

"Ashton, he will be up in a—"

"Stop mentioning his name!" Every time Aaron heard that name a new brick was built. His anger became stronger. This time Aaron snapped. The wall collapsed. He pushed Luke violently against the door, his head banging against the wood harshly.

Luke winced and slid down the door as Aaron stood back to look at the damage he did. His eyes were still open. Luke was sat on the floor holding his head, blood on his hand. Slowly Luke brought his eyes up to meet Aaron's. He then twisted to look at the door. There was now a small dent. With care Luke began to stand up, grabbing hold of the door handle, wanting to escape. His back to Aaron he didn't see the leg that was coming towards him. He didn't see or feel the next four kicks either. Neither did he hear Aaron say, "If I can't have you Luke, then neither can he."

Sorry, it's short, words were not coming out of me this week!

How is everyone doing? I just finished watching Anna Karenina and wow! I want to read the book but it's quite daunting so I thought I'd give the film a try first!

Thank you so much for reading.
