What happened before...
It all happened a few years earlier, when suddenly children started to disappear without a trace. No one knew where they had gone, but everyone knew they would not return.
Mujika was on her way to school when one of her friends suddenly called her name behind her. It was Dorothy. "Hey Mujika! Wait!" Mujika turned around. "Oh! Hey Dorothy! What's up?", Mujika answered. The girl with the short hair stammered a little: "Uhm... so... I wanted to talk to you..." Mujika looked at her in a prompt. "So... You like Eliot, right?", Dorothy started to talk. Mujika looked confused: "Obviously!" Dorothy nodded and started to talk a little bit more quietly: "I know that sounds strange right now but... Are you in love with him...?" Mujika took a step back waving her hands. "H-how did you figure...?", Mujika answered nervously. Dorothy could see Mujika's face heating up. "So, it's true...?", Dorothy murmured. Mujika looks away: "Maybe... Why are you asking me that?"
"Well... It's that... Elle is in love with Eliot too... I shouldn't tell you that but... I thought it is important for you to know..."
Mujika looked shocked at Dorothy. "What!? Wait really!?" Before Dorothy could say anything else, the blonde boy they were talking about, appeared behind them. "Hey guys! You are coming to my party, right?" He grinned at the others.
Mujika looked overwhelmed at Eliot. She did not expect his sudden appearance. "H-hey Elliot! S-sure!", Mujika started stuttering. Eliot seemed like he didn't notice. "I'm happy to hear!", Eliot smiled. Dorothy looked at both unsure. She obviously was thinking about what she had been talking about with Mujika before.
Eliot looked around: "Hey! Where are the others?" Dorothy and Mujika shrugged with their shoulders. Mujika was totally sure, Eliot must love Elle. He was always more interested in her than in Mujika! Or was that just her imagination? Suddenly they noticed Ralph running towards them. Ralph looked at them with his hands in his pockets: "Thanks for waiting!"
"We weren't waiting for you...", Dorothy replied.
"You are coming too Ralph, aren't you?", Eliot looked at his best friend seriously. Ralph looked irritated, like he didn't really understand what Eliot meant but he just nodded. Soon the two girls Charlotte and Elle arrived too. Elle gave Eliot a slight smile and her cheeks began to blush.
Eliot nodded too contentedly: "I hope! I want to celebrate my birthday with all my friends around me!" Eliot grinned at them. "But if you come without a present, I will kick you out of my house!"
Ralph looked shocked like he just now remembered that it was Eliot's birthday. "Of course, I have a present for my best friend!", Ralph began to laugh nervously.
"Any ideas what we could do?", Eliot asked excitedly. "We could watch movies and play games, but anything you decide is fine for me!", Elle spoke out still smiling at Eliot. Mujika began to ask herself why she hadn't notice yet, that Elle was in love with Eliot. It was totally obvious! "Great! That's a good idea! We will meet us after the school at 6 pm okay? Take movies, food and games with you!", Eliot winked them and ran into the school. He and Charlotte were a class above than the others.
Charlotte had skipped a class because she was too good at school and Eliot was just older than the others. Elle and Dorothy walked to class too, but Ralph stopped Mujika.
"Hey uhm... is everything okay? Feels a little tense between you and the other girls... ", Ralph noted. Mujika wanted to start explaining but once again she felt her face blush. "Nothing... It's nothing!", she murmured quickly. "Hm... okay... Could you... please tell that our teacher... uhm... my head hurts and I am in the hospital room?", Ralph suddenly asked. She nodded irritated: "Sure... but... is it true?"
"I just want to get a present for Eliot! I totally forgot his birthday... So please don't tell it anyone! I will hurry I promise!!", Ralph admitted.
"Calm down, I won't tell anyone!", Mujika promised amused. "Thanks, you are the best!", and with these words he ran away.
Mujika entered the class. The teacher looked at Mujika irritated. "Did you see Ralph?"
"Yeah! He is in the hospital room", Mujika explained. The teacher lifted an eyebrow. "Should I look after him?" Mujika shook her head heavily. "No! He is sick! I mean really sick like...", she pretended to cough a little bit and to vomit. "It's not a good idea to go there".
A few students began to laugh about her, Elle and Dorothy looked at her strangely. The teachers face became disgusted: "Urgh... okay... let us just start with the lesson, I hope he will get better soon..."
Mujika nodded and sat down.
After many long hours, the school was finally over. Mujika stretched her body while standing in the schoolyard. Without noticing Eliot suddenly stood behind her and tickled her in the sides. "Sorry I just can't resist when someone stretches", Eliot laughed. The girl jumped up terrified. "E-Eliot! You scared me!", she tried to catch her breath.
"Really? Am I that scary?", he asked, pointing on his innocent grinning face.
She waved her hands in front of her face, quickly denying. "No! I didn't mean it like this! You are not at all scary! On the contrary, you are really cute! Eeeh... I meant... You are not scary. NOT AT ALL! Ahh... don't mind...", she covered her face with her hands as a sign as giving up. "Calm down little Mujika. I already understand!", Eliot grinned and laid an arm around her shoulders. "I have to do a few things, so I guess... See you later?", he looked at her. He was so close, that she didn't get a clear word. "Y-yeah... see you..."
Eliot ran away waving his hands. When Mujika turned around she noticed the two girls who followed her out of the school. "So... you love Eliot?", Elle asked her a little bit too directly. "What!? No! We are just friends! What's about you? You like him?", Mujika replied, somewhat foray. Elle quickly looked to the floor. "So uhm... yeah... of course... but I... just like him...". Her face went completely red.
Mujika nodded. "Yeah... sure... It's written in your face..."
Elle looked at Mujika and asked shy: "Y-you think... he maybe... loves me too...?" Mujika just shrugged her shoulders. "How should I know? Anyways... I will go ahead... see you later...", Her voice sounded a little drier than usual and she made her way home.
After a few hours she stood with her gift in front of Elliot's house and rang the doorbell. She never slept at Eliot's home and was a little bit excited. Eliot opened the door, his hair had a new style, which surprised Mujika. It looked great! "Oh! Heyy Mujika! You are early... I'm not finished with everything yet...", he nervously scratched his neck. "Oh, I'm sorry! I think I've swapped times... If you want, I can help you with what is missing.", Mujika. "That would be great! I... uhm... really have problems with baking the pie...", he admitted.
"I can help you! I learned how to bake pies from my grandmother!", Mujika suggested. "That sounds great! I mean... I could do it by myself too, but I don't want to poison you!", he laughed.
"That wouldn't be a good idea", she grinned. "But I can teach you! What do you say?" Eliot nodded heavily. "That would be really great! I doubt that it will work, but we could try!", he smiled.
"Okay we should start. We have just one hour until the others come!", he sounded nervous. "Relax! Everything will be fine! Ah here... your gift", she handed him her gift. "Oh, thank you! I will open it with the others together!", he smiled and laid the gift on a table.
They went in the kitchen. "Okay... what shall I do first?" He looked around. "At which part did you stop?", She asked as she looked around and noticed the slight mess in the kitchen. "Uhm... so I think I stopped at the beginning...", he laughed ashamed. "Let's separate the ingredients then", she murmured. "Okay... which do we need for a chocolate cake? Flour? Sugar? Chocolate! Eggs...", he asked while putting it on the table.
"Okay... could you put the flour into the bowl? I'll prepare the chocolate!", she asked and nodded at a bowl. "Sure!", Eliot agreed. She smiled as she tied her hair up to start. Eliot looked at her smiling: "You should wear your hair like that more often! It suits you!!" He opened the flour and wanted to put it in the bowl. "Pfffff...", came just out of his mouth. Mujika looked at him just to see an Eliot with flour on his whole face. "I'm so untalented...", he complained.
She laughed a little and wiped Eliot's face with a cloth. "This is not true! You are very good in science and in the laboratory, while I suck at it. Everyone is good at something different!", she calmed him down. His face went a little bit red by her touches. "Maybe you are right...", he murmured.
