HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

They'd been walking in silence for a while.

y/n didn't like sensing Ahsoka's quietude. He'd remembered her to be effervescent and outgoing. Seeing her quiet felt like he'd said something wrong. y/n thought that maybe he should have told her about his views about the Clone Wars in a slightly kinder tone.

His eyes flickered to his left arm. The names of the fallen. He'd tried, after every battle, to record as many of his friends-no, his brothers-as he could. But there were always too many. If y/n could have remembered all of the dead soldiers, he was sure that he could have tattooed his entire body at least ten times. But he couldn't remember them all, so it was only his left arm that was the memorial.

"I used to be different. Like a youngling." y/n said, breaking the silence. "And then I made friends with the clones. There was one soldier, my best friend - funny, kind, loyal, brave, cheerful, clever, responsible, every good trait that you could think of. We were on the planet of Scipio, fighting General Hexa Renou's ground forces. He died, saving myself and an entire battalion of soldiers." y/n recounted sadly.

"That's when I realised. I was being selfish. Enjoying the war. Every day, hundreds of millions of people and clones die. But we Jedi, with all our fancy Force using and lightsaber twirling, we barely ever even receive a fatal injury. I was having fun at the expense of others. But not only that. We're the on the front lines, fighting, instead of helping the sufferers. Continuing, tolerating, perhaps even promoting the war. They raised us to be keepers of peace-"

"Not warriors." Ahsoka finished for him. She paused. "And the clone, your best friend, was he...Tattoo?" she pointed at one of the names inked on y/n's index finger.

"Yeah. Great soldier. I miss him." He smiled forlornly. "He told me to remember his fallen brothers. Honour them. Hence the names."

Ahsoka gazed into the distance, remembering her own dead friends.

"How'd you know I was here?" y/n asked suddenly, breaking through her thoughts. His face regained the smirk, though his hazel eyes were still pensive and sorrowful. "I walked into the Temple, and then next thing I know Caleb Dume is telling me you've been searching for me. You sure you're not a fan of mine?"

The Togruta blushed slightly in embarrassment but snorted. "Come on, just got a little excited. Give me a break," she said, shoving y/n playfully. "I know for sure that you're glad to see someone as amazing as me."

y/n crossed his arms.

"Oh fine. So Master Skywalker-"

"The Skywalker?!"

"What?" Ahsoka glanced quizzically at her friend. "Yeah...Anakin Skywalker?"

An air of true disbelief and utmost respect crossed his face. "You're kidding. Your master is the Hero with No Fear? No way! Why didn't you tell me!? What's he like?"

Smirking, Ahsoka watched y/n ramble on about Anakin. Finally, he grew quiet enough for her to continue speaking.

"Honestly, if you want me to tell you how I found out that you were here, at least let me finish my story!"

"Right, right. Sorry."

"Anyways, Master Skywalker was contacted by Master Secura. He and ten elite 501st clones - that's my division - have been sent to an undisclosed system. Some secret project I think. Anyways, we Padawans were supposed to stay at the Temple."

y/n nodded. "Yes, that's correct. Master told me that she was going on a mission to steal plans from Hexa Renou. That horrid Separatist." He shook his head in disgust at the General who had caused Tattoo's death.

Hexa was a nefarious human-like droid constructed by General Grievous, doing the latter's bidding and running dirty errands. She slowly gained Dooku's favour and became a General herself, leading the 4283rd Legion of the Separatist Droid Army. With her cunning mechanical, calculating predictions and ruthless heartlessness, Hexa had been the cause of thousands of clones and even a few Jedi. Throughout the Clone Wars, she had battled against both y/n and Ahsoka many times.

Ahsoka suddenly remembered something. "During the briefing session, Commander Bly acknowledged you as Captain l/n. Shouldn't you be of higher rank than him? I mean, every Padawan is designated the post of Commander, right?"

Nodding, y/n told her his story. "Bly is a great clone and close friend. He's saved me on many occasions, or twelve, to be exact."

She was surprised to hear no hint of embarrassment in his voice.

"I would have been killed on Lothal had Bly not found me, captured by the droids. That was the eighth time he had caught me before I fell into the jaws of death, to put it more dramatically." y/n gave a wry smile. "Anyways, I said to Master that he should be promoted to Commander instead of me, for he was far more experienced, brave and loyal than I. Somehow Master agreed, and here I am, a lower rank than you."

He said this all in a humble manner, which surprised Ahsoka greatly. This really did express just how much y/n had matured during the two years that they spent apart. Still the humour and the enthusiasm, just not the hotheadedness and cockiness.

Ahsoka grinned to herself and the two elapsed back into a flow of silence and conversation.

Note: I made up Hexa Renou, she does not actually exist in the franchise so yeah. And also, keep a heads up because she is going to be one of the antagonists in the story!
