Dear Diary:                                      September 16, 2014

A baby. I'm having a baby. I'm pregnant. What mystical enchanted world did I fall into? I was supposed to be menopausal. And yet all of that was gone. As I laid on the examining table waiting for Carlisle to tell me...tell us whom we were having, I thought back through everything. Keith was standing next to me and holding my hand. I had a million thoughts running through my head. Just then Carlisle looked closer at the screen and smiled. I held my breath.

"Leah; you and Keith are having a baby boy! Congratulations! He looks healthy and quite active."

"Yes the active part I know." I said rubbing my belly.

"He may be a soccer player yet." Carlisle said with a wink.

I looked up at my husband and was shocked to see tears going down his face. He was crying silently. I reached up and he leaned down so I could stroke his cheek. When our eyes met, he just shook his head and then he whispered:

"A son. I'm having a son."

I felt my heart melt when he said that. The pride and happiness in his voice was unmistakable. We were going to have a little boy. As soon as we finished processing that, we heard whoops and screeching coming from the whole house. Everyone was elated. Alice most of all as she seemed to be yammering a mile a minute about all of the clothing and things she could buy now. She was practically drooling with anticipation. I largely ignored her.

My first order of business was to call my mother and tell her while the rest of the family gathered around me when I finished getting dressed and waited until my mom and I finished crying. She said she would send some of Seth's baby clothes over as they were of our Quileute heritage and heirlooms also to pass down from generation to generation.

Esme and Bella meanwhile along with Rose, ran into the kitchen to prepare an impromptu celebratory meal for us. We had so much to think about. Not just the birth itself but also the fact that we needed to prepare a nursery for the little one. Alexander offered his painting expertise to do a mural in the whole room. We agreed that since the baby was going to be some small part wolf, that it would be nice to create a forest mural on all four walls. When he grew up, if he wanted a change, we could always repaint.

Keith and I lived in a 3 bedroom house all on one floor and we had to reconvert the other two bedrooms. Firstly, one was an office and the other one a spare guest room. So now we combined the office with the guestroom and everything fit in perfectly. The new now empty room would be the nursery. We still had time but with Alice's help (who promised only to do what we wished) we were making lists of everything we needed to get. We decided that the mural would be a glow in the dark one so instead of a night light, the baby would sleep surrounded by wooden nymphs and sparkling fireflies. Alexander could really turn any blank canvas into a masterpiece.

So while we were eating our feast, he was sketching some possibilities on his pad. We also decided that we were going to mix colors instead of the usual blue for boy, pink for girl concept. We were going to use blues, greens, browns, whites, oranges and so forth to create a very realistic forest. Baby furniture was also needed. Alice ran upstairs and got catalogs she had randomly stashed in her room from when Nessie was still a child and then when Charlotte gave birth to Hope, she called the number from the catalogs and asked for them to mail her the update copies ASAP.

We were going to have a baby shower as well in a few weeks. Everything was happening so fast that we barely had time to catch our breaths.  Keith suggested that he and I go away for a while. Nowhere far but just to relax; because stress really wouldn't help with my supernatural pregnancy. So we decided to go to the Adirondacks in upstate NY and rent a cabin by the lake that had all of the amenities of a mansion and that way I could just enjoy some peace and quiet.

Keith got on planning that so we would leave the following day. In the meantime, I was just resting and went for a walk outside with Bella. She after all was the only other one here that ever gave birth to any supernatural child. Her experience was different as there was vampire DNA involved and in our case it was only human, wolf, and Watcher. Still it was comforting knowing I wasn't alone in this. As we walked, she rubbed my back because I was already starting to waddle. My stomach was growing bigger and bigger each day though not at the speed hers did.

"What are you thinking about?" She asked me as we walked slowly down our usual paths. She helped me climb over limbs and such.

"Everything honestly. There's just so much, especially the preparations. I have no idea how we would have done it without all of your guys' help. Especially Alice and please don't tell her I said that or she'll go bananas again." I said with a slight laugh.

"I know that feeling. Nessie was a total surprise as well but the family stuck around and helped. I know you don't want to be overwhelmed with things but I was just curious, have you thought of what you'll name him?" Bella asked.

"We haven't really settled on a first name yet but Keith asked that his middle name be McKinley after his father which I totally agreed with. Maybe we will name him Harry after my father. Don't know yet." I replied thoughtfully.

"Well we're in no shortage of strange names around here, true?" Bella said with a giggle.

"That's for sure. How on earth did you ever think to come up with Renesmee?" I asked her point blank then.

"Well it was totally different and I didn't want to name her Sally or Sarah or Nichole or some other run of the mill name. Both Esme and Renee are/were important to me so it only made sense to combine the two. I didn't think it was going to create such a brouhaha."

"I guess change isn't always a plus with people though in our world you'd think we'd be used to anything by now." I said wisely. When did I get so wise anyways?

"Especially since the Watchers joined us." Bella confirmed.

I nodded and we proceeded to walk the rest of the way back to the main house in comfortable silence thinking about everything we still had to do. I was just very glad to get away from it all. By the time we got back, Keith had booked our cabin and all of the amenities a pregnant woman would need. They even had a spa there for us to get "his" and "hers" massages. My hubby really did think of everything. I love him so very much. He even packed everything we needed for the trip. We were leaving the following morning.

In the meantime, everyone dispersed back to their homes. Alexander flew along trying very hard to watch where he was going as he was drawing and flying at the same time. Can't you get a ticket for that? Or is that only for texting and driving? Thank the lord Rogue flew near him so he avoided any collisions with trees though there were some close calls from what she told us later. Not like Alexander would have gotten hurt but I felt bad for the trees. Not their fault they had a preoccupied Watcher in their midst.

Anyways, time to put the diary entry to bed as I go snuggle next to my husband and feel the kicks of our precious, miraculous son. Tomorrow, we're off for some R&R. Goodnight everyone.
