I shouldn’t have let her go. My father was getting tired of his ideas being argued with. Her plea may be the last straw. I turned and headed back down the stairs towards the throne room. I moved quicker as I heard gasps coming from precisely that area. As I walked through the door, I saw my father pull his sword out and point it at Sophia. I ran towards the scene and tugged on her arm. She turned to face me and my father dropped his sword ever so slightly.

“You need to leave now.” I urged.

“I can’t leave until he has heard me.” She answered calmly.

“Believe me, he has heard you. Staying here will only get you killed and your country attacked.”

She thought for a moment and then nodded. I guided her out of the room, looking behind me to make sure my father didn’t follow us. Once we were far away, we stopped walking.

“Why did you stand up to him like that?” I inquired.

“I am sick of strong men such as your father and mine selling women off as if we were property. We aren’t and I refuse to become it.” She said before walking away from me. I took a second to take in her words and when I looked back, she was gone.
