-School-
-Chloe-
Today was our first day back after Thanksgiving. Shawn had left a few days ago and Brooke seemed to be fine.
Although this is how she acted when he left the first time.
Nash was still here but I told him to not be so lovey around Brooke.
As I walked through the doors I noticed Brooke over at her locker. As I walked by I kicked her jokingly.
As she looked at me I shot her a smile
Strutting over to my locker.
I spun the dial to put my code in and opened the locker as I heard feet behind me.
"Hey!" I yelled already knowing who it was.
"Hi." Brooke laughed leaning up against the locker next to mine.
"How was your night?" I asked.
"I'm soooo tired." She replied.
"Why?" I asked.
"I couldn't sleep." She said simply.
"And why couldn't you sleep?" I asked.
"No reason."
"Okay,..... I trailed off.
"What do you have first period again?" She asked.
"Chemistry." I replied.
"Right. Chemistry." She repeated.
I laughed picking up my books and walking to homeroom.
Unfortunately Brooke and I didn't have any classes together accept lunch and music.
It sucked but we talked a lot outside of school so it made up for it.
-Later-
"Hey Chlo do you want to come over after school?" Brooke asked.
I sighed hoping she wouldn't ask that question. I had even dreading it all day and I knew it would come up but part of me hoped it hadn't.
"I can't." Her face dropped instantly. "I'm so sorry Brooke." I explained. "It's just, Nash is here and I told him I would spend time with him. You can-"
"Come?" She asked. Anger laced in her voice. "I'm not a baby I can be alone." She said.
"But you shouldn't have to be." I said. (Never Be Alone. *winks*)
"I'm fine." She explained. "I'll call Shawn and see what he's doing. If he's busy I'll do homework and actually get some stuff done." She said. "Go have fun with Nash."
"Okay." I smiled. "Thanks Brooke you're the best!"
She smiled slightly as I jogged away.
-1 Month Later-
Another long boring day at school was about to begin.
Brooke sat quietly at the bottom of her locker, eyes on her phone.
I walked up to her kicking her lightly.
"Hey." I said.
She smiled not even bothering to look up her phone.
"What are you looking at that could possibly be more fascinating than me?"
"Shawn." She replied simply.
I pouted but she wasn't looking up so she didn't see me.
"Fine you win!" I exclaim.
I sat down next to her and looked over her shoulder.
"Whatcha talking about?"
"Nothing. His schedule. He hasn't been able to talk recently."
"Oh sorry." I said sympathetically.
"It's fine." She said. "I'm fine." She corrected.
-1 Week Later-
-Brooklyn-
I awoke to the sound of my phone ringing.
I groaned rolling over assuming it was Chloe calling to wake me up for school.
I answered the FaceTime groggily not even paying attention to the name.
My eyes were half closed.
"I'm up." I said groggily.
"That's good?" An all too familiar voice said.
My eyes instantly flew open.
"Shawn." I sighed.
"That's my name don't wear it out." He winked.
I busted out into laughter.
"God I'm not that funny." He said.
"I miss you." I said taking in his features.
"I miss you too." He replied. "I'm sorry I haven't been calling you."
"It's fine."
"No it's not." He shook his head. "I'm a horrible boyfriend."
"I think you're pretty great." I said.
He smiled.
"What time is it?" I asked.
As he checked I checked causing us to say it at the same time.
"2-"
"10-"
"Brooke!" He exclaimed. "Oh my god I'm such an idiot." He ran his fingers through his hair and put his head in his hands.
"Why?" I asked.
"Brooke it's 2 in the friggin morning and I called you and-"
"Shawn-" I cut him off. "I don't care."
He sighed as his big brown eyes met the camera once again.
I got up and put headphones in laying back down.
"Are you gonna sleep?" He asked.
"Maybe."
"So you want to go?" He said.
"No of course not." I said. "You're gonna sleep right next to me."
-1 Month Later-
-Chloe-
(Sorry I keep changing.)
-After School-
(STOP READING RIGHT NOW AND PLAY A LITTLE TOO MUCH)
Brooke walked silently to her locker putting her stuff in her locker.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
She nodded her head up and down.
I could tell she wasn't okay. Everyone at school knows about her mom and Shawn. They all compliment her behind her back on how strong she is. I knew better. She's not showing how she feels. She's stuffing it all down. She's afraid and she feels alone.
"Okay." I went to my locker to pack my stuff up.
Quickly placing my books in my bag I walked back over to Brooke.
"Do you need help?" I asked.
"No." She said sternly. "I'm fine."
You could tell she thought about him all day. She would easily lose focus in class and often be called out in for it.
She knew over time everything would be better so she didn't show it. She didn't let It get in her way.
-Brooklyn-
(YOU SHOULD STILL BE LISTENING TO A LITTLE TOO MUCH UNLESS YOU READ SLOW. Then just play it again.)
Shawn hasn't called me since that night. I get the occasional Good morning or good night text but those conversations never last very long.
What had been getting me through it all was knowing he would be home for Christmas.
They're doing a surprise show in NYC now. His parents are going with him as they do most of the time nowadays.
They have offered several times to take me along but my mom declined because she needed me and school was important.
I drove home holding in my tears hoping I could make it through the house.
I took a deep breath before bracing myself.
I greeted my mother with a simple 'Hey.' and continued walking to my room.
I shut the door letting the tears run freely collapsing on my bed.
I put some running pants on and a random t shirt followed by some sneakers.
I grabbed my phone and headphones putting them in.
I placed my phone in my pocket and walked downstairs.
"I'm going running." I said.
I didn't bother waiting for a response because I needed to get out.
I played music and just ran.
Step after step.
I hoped it would ease the pain.
Breath after breath.
I hoped it would kill the sorrow.
I ran until my legs were tired and I was out of breath.
I collapsed on the green in the middle of the cul de sac.
My breathing was heavy and the tears fell freely down my rosy red cheeks.
(You can stop playing A Little Too Much now. Unless you want to finish.)
-1 Week Later-
-Chloe-
Brooke barely talks anymore. To Cameron and I and maybe a few other people but not much other than that. Especially now she didn't even talk to me.
Flashback
"Damn it Brooke let me help you." I said.
"I don't need your help!" She exclaimed.
"Brooke you need help!" I exclaimed. "You don't talk to anyone." I said. "Your depressed."
"You'd be depressed too if your mom had cancer and your boyfriend was gone."
I was silent.
Tears brimmed her eyes.
"A-and he's out there living his dream and your here going to school and helping your sick mother." Her lip trembled.
I opened my mouth to say sorry or something but she had already walked away.
Flashback Over
I continued my walk home step by step.
The black top was coated with a thin layer of ice.
It's been three months since Shawn left.
Christmas was coming up and I now know he wasn't coming home.
My family had invited Brooke's over for Christmas so we we're going to have to talk sometime.
I walked into my house greeting my parents and sister.
I grabbed my phone and walked upstairs to my bedroom.
I dialed Shawn's number and it was immediately sent to voicemail.
I dialed it again and again until he finally answered.
"What do you want Chloe?" He asked.
"You have some nerve talking to me like that." I said.
"I have some nerve?" He asked. "Says the girl who called me repeatedly."
"You need to come home."
"Why?" He asked.
"It's Brooke." I said.
"Why what's wrong with her?" He asked. Worry laced his voice.
"She's broken."
I'm so sorry for not posting sooner. I hate myself. I'm really going to try and write today more. I have an essay and some other homework but other than that not much so I'm really gonna try.
Thanks for those who are actually still reading and PLEASE check out the previous chapter.
