-Brooklyn-
When I finally contained myself I grabbed my phone and texted Chloe.
Me: Can u please pick me up? My car is broke.
Chloe: ya sure.
When her car pulled up I hopped into the passenger seat.
"Have you been crying?" She asked.
"Yeah."
She sighed.
"But believe you, me it was not because of Shawn, it's because my friggin hormones are acting like their on crack."
She laughed and so did I.
When we pulled up to her house she told be to just go upstairs and she would be up in a minute.
I went upstairs and laid on her bed. I pulled my phone out and checked my messages.
Nothing.
Just then Chloe came back upstairs.
She had a big tray filled with junk food, board games and movies.
I laughed as she set it down and sat down next to me on the bed.
"So," she said, "What's up with your car?"
"I don't know that day we went to the beach, it just didn't work, that's when I met Leo and he said he would fix it but Shawn got rid of him. Plus I didn't know him very well."
"Yeah." She sighed.
I began to tell her about gowned played Pictionary.
"So do you like him now?" She asked.
"I don't know. He just seems sketchy and I feel like my mom likes him."
"Yeah." She sighed.
I was silent.
"What do you want to do?" She asked.
"I don't know." I sighed leaning back.
"Chlo, we've never had a fight like this before." I said.
"You'll be fine it'll blow over soon enough. It's your first fight." She said.
"I just-" I sighed. "I really miss him."
"I know." She rubbed my back.
Then she grabbed a movie and held it up.
"Finding Nemo, Chlo. Really?" I asked smirking.
"Come on he's cute!" She protested.
She put the movie in and then came and sat on the bed with me.
-Chloe-
I put the movie in and went and laid down on the bed next to Brooke.
I pulled my phone out as the movie started and texted Shawn.
Me: Listen you need to make up with Brooke.
Shawn: I know.
Me: Then what the hell are you doing?!
Shawn: I don't know!!!
I heard a little noise and looked over to see Brooke fast asleep.
I quietly got up and walked to Pipers room.
"Piper." I said.
"Yeah?" Her head popped up from the other side of the bed.
"I need you to watch Brooke for me." I said.
She held out her hand.
I have her a quarter.
"My rates have gone up." She said.
I groaned. "To what?"
"2 quarters." I handed her another one.
She smirked.
"Just call me when she wakes up, okay?" I said.
She nodded.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"To get some food." I replied.
The less Piper knew the better.
I walked to the kitchen and grabbed my keys.
I got in the car and drove to Shawn's house.
I knocked on his door repeatedly until he opened it.
He was shirtless, his hair was a mess, and he looked truly depressed.
"Chloe, what the hell are you doing here?"
"My best friend is sitting at my house on the verge of tears and- damn it you need to do something about it." I said.
"Listen Chlo I know you as Brooke have this weird relationship where you beat up old boyfriends and stuff like that but I've got it under control."
"No you don't. If you had it under control you wouldn't look like you just got hit by a bus and you sure as hell wouldn't be sitting here." I retorted.
He sighed opening the door further to let me in.
-Brooklyn-
I woke up to a ringing in my ears.
I looked over and grabbed my phone.
My grandma was calling and apparently she had already called me twice and I just now heard it.
"Hello." I answered.
"Where the hell are you?" She asked.
"I'm at Chloe's relax." I responded.
"Don't get that tone with me!" She said.
"I didn't have a tone!"
"Why did you just leave?"
"I just needed to get away." I said.
"Brooke your always away. Your mother needs you." She said.
"I know." I said.
"Stop getting that tone." He said.
"Oh my god,.." I mumbled.
"You know what Brooke don't come home then stay with your little friends and forget about your sick mother at home."
"I never said I wouldn't come home!" I said.
"You sounded like it." She said.
"Okay well I didn't mean it and I'm sorry. I'll be home soon."
"Okay I love you." She said.
"I love you too." I responded.
I grabbed my phone and got out of bed.
Piper was on the phone in her room as I walked downstairs. I figured Chloe was downstairs.
When I got downstairs her car wasn't there.
I texted her.
-Chloe-
My phone buzzed.
Brooke: Hey can you pick me up?
Chloe: Uh, yeah sorry I went to the store.
Brooke: okay!
"Perfect." I said.
"What?" Shawn picked his head up from his hands.
"Uh nothing just stay here I'll be back I have to go to the store and get some stuff for my mom."
"Okay." He sighed, standing up and walked me to the door.
I went to my house and picked up Brooke.
"You left me." She pouted.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"What did you get at the store?" She asked.
"Uh-" crap. "I uh got some food it's in the back."
"Oh." She leaned against the window. "My grandma is killing me."
"Sorry." I said.
She sighed and just looked out the window.
"Chlo you just passed my street."
"Did I? I'll turn around up here."
"Chlo your passing all these streets why don't you turn down one of those."
"I uh-" I turned down Shawn's street.
"Chloe what the hell are you doing?" She asked.
"Turning around." I said.
I pulled into Shawn's driveway.
"No." She said.
I ignored her and got out. I walked to her side and opened the door.
Then I unbuckled her seatbelt.
"You can unbuckle the seatbelt but you can't get me out." She said. I tugged and tugged and she used her feet to try and hold me back but it didn't work. Her feet hit the thing and I pulled and she came crashing to her knees.
"Nice job you ass." She said. She stood up and wiped the gravel off her knees. Blood slowly started to come out.
I gasped.
"Aw looks like you need a bandaid." I said. "I know where you can find one,..." I cooed.
"Yeah at my house." She said glaring at me.
I pulled her hand up to Shawn's door.
"I'm only going with you because I don't want to get hurt more." She said.
"Ha ha." I said.
I rang the doorbell and ran back to my car before he could see me.
-Brooklyn-
I heard shuffling around on the other side. As Chloe ran away I tried to run in the other direction.
"Brooke?" Shawn asked. He sounded different.
I did a fake accent. "Uh no just your neighbor trying to find my cat." I said.
He laughed.
God did I miss his laugh.
I relaxed my arms, I wanted so badly to turn around but what was I going to do?
But of course I did the stupid thing and turned around.
He looked a mess.
He was wearing sweatpants and he was shirtless. His hair was all over and he looked like he hadn't slept.
He walked slowly down the stairs towards me. I watched him as he did.
"What are you doing here?" He asked.
I looked towards Chloe and he followed me. She quickly looked away and tried to act like she wasn't watching and listening to us.
I laughed and he smiled at me.
"Do you want to come in?" He asked.
"Uh- yeah I guess." I said.
He grabbed my hand which surprised me and led me inside.
He shut the door and walked towards his kitchen.
"My parents aren't home." He said. "Went away for the week with Aaliyah for something. They figured I was old enough to take care of myself."
"I would hope so." I replied.
He laughed.
-Shawn-
I laughed and she smiled.
I missed her smile.
"Shawn." She said quietly.
"What?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. "Are you mad at me?" She asked.
"No, baby, no." I grabbed he hands in mine and our eyes met.
"Why did you walk away?" I asked.
"Honestly?" She whispered.
I nodded.
"I was annoyed."
I placed my hands on her waist and she wrapped her arms around my neck. It looked like we were going to dance except we were just standing there.
One thing was still bugging me.
"Am I not enough for you?" I blurted.
"What?" She asked. She sounds shocked. I'm pretty sure she knew what I had said so I stayed silent.
"Shawn Peter Raul Mendes," she whispered. "You are the most wonderful person I have ever met. You're funny, nice, sweet, caring, and not to mention incredibly good looking." She paused and I laughed. "You're nothing like those guys out there. You're nothing like any of the other guys out there. But you're mine and I'm yours and my heart and my everything belongs to you and no one else right now. No one can take that away from you. Not some guy at a restaurant or at the beach or your best friend, no one. I love you." She finished.
I replied by pressing my lips to hers.
I missed her warm, soft lips. I pulled away.
Her eyes were closed.
"Brooklyn Lee Sanders I love you so much." I said.
She smiled and blushed.
"You know you can get jealous sometimes." She said. "But not to this point." She whispered. "Never to this point."
I kissed her again.
"Never." I whispered.
She pulled me down by my neck and I could tell she was standing on her tippy toes. I lifted her up and she smirked against my lips.
-Brooklyn-
I smirked against his lips as he picked me up and carried me to the couch. He laid me down and then got on top of me while still kissing me. I got butterflies in my stomach.
His rough finger was tucked in the hem of my pants. I could see where this was going and I had two reasons why that couldn't happen.
I pulled away.
He groaned against my lips.
"I'm sorry I need to go home." I said. "And no offense but you need a shower."
"Give me like five minutes." He mumbled.
-Shawn-
I went upstairs and hopped in the shower washing my hair and body.
I quickly threw on some khakis and a flannel.
Adding deodorant and cologne. When I came downstairs Brooke had sat up on the couch and she was on her phone.
"Hey baby." I said plopping down on the couch next to her and putting my arm around her shoulders.
"Can you take me home?" She asked.
"Of course." I smiled.
I grabbed my keys and she led the way to the car. I got in the drivers side and she got in the passengers side as I started the car.
The whole car ride she just looked out the window. It seemed like she was acting weird.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
She nodded.
We pulled up to her house.
She got out of the car and started walking towards her house. About halfway there she turned around and started to walk back to the car.
She stomped over to the drivers side.
"I thought you were coming with me." She said.
"I didn't know I was allowed to." I said.
She opened my door and unbuckled my seatbelt, pulling me out of the car.
She shut the door and brought my lips down to hers.
Then she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards her house.
"I need you to be my bumper." She explained.
"Your bumper?" I questioned.
She opened the door and ignored my question.
"Brooke what the hell-"
Her grandmother opened the door.
"-o"
I finished.
Brooke smirked and bent her head down her hair falling in front of her face.
She lifted her head up and pushed her hair behind her ear.
"Hi." She said.
Her grandmother smiled and Brooke grabbed my hand pulling me inside.
She walked towards the living room while holding my hand.
"Sit there." She said to me pointing to a chair.
Then she went and sat in the chair across the room. Her back was up against the arm and her legs over the side.
She sighed leaning back.
"I'm thirsty." she stated.
"Then go get a drink." Ms. Sanders said.
I smirked as she groaned.
"But it's so far away." She stumbled.
She rolled off the chair and onto the floor.
After laying there for a few seconds she actually got up to go get a drink.
Her grandma followed her in there.
-Brooklyn-
After I had gained enough motivation I finally decided to get up and go get a drink.
I groggily walked into the kitchen and was met with some major stomach cramps.
I groaned as I grabbed a mug and began to make some tea.
My grandma walked in and started to make her coffee.
"How long is Shawn staying?" She asked.
"Um I don't know." I said. "His parents and Aaliyah went out of town for the weekend so I was thinking of asking mom if he could stay."
"You really think that's best?"
"Well I'm sure she won't mind and then he would have to go home to an empty house by himself."
"Doesn't he have another friends house he could stay at?" She asked.
"Why are you like so against him right now?" I asked.
"I'm not." She said. "I just think that everything going on with your mother that it would be best if you didn't flaunt your boyfriend around her." She said.
"Okay, first of all I'm not flaunting him around anyone and if were in your way then well get out of your way." I said sarcastically.
I put the iced tea back in the fridge grabbed my cup and walked into the living room.
"Shawn and I are going to go upstairs." I said. "I'll be down later."
"Okay." She smiled.
Shawn followed me as I walked up the stairs.
When I got in my room I set my iced tea down and shut the door after Shawn walked in. I sat down on the bed and put my head in my hands.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
I looked at him.
"Can I ask you something?" I asked.
He nodded.
"Every argument we've ever had we basically just kiss and make up like that." I snapped my fingers. "And it annoys me and makes me upset and angry and all these other things but-"
He cut me off.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
"I don't know,..." I sighed leaning back.
We were silent for a couple minutes. It was killing me.
"I didn't mean to ya know." I whispered.
"What?" He asked.
"Make us fight." I said.
He looked down.
"I was the one who overreacted." He said.
"Damn right." I said.
He laughed.
"But seriously, listen-" I turned to him. "I love you and all but that doesn't mean I'm going to not have other guy friends. Maybe volleyball on the beach wasn't the best choice and Chloe did tell me not to do it but I was just angry with you in a way plus I knew nothing was gonna happen because I knew the hottest and best guy on the beach was already mine." I smirked as I reached the end and he did too.
"That was really cheesy." He smiled.
"Yeah?" I blushed. "Your face is cheesy."
"That was too." He said.
I laughed.
"So Shawn I want us to be good." She said. "And not like we just made out on your couch so I guess were good now like we actually forgive each other and don't hate each other."
"I never hated you," he said. "Nor will I ever."
I smiled.
"I was never mad either." He explained. "I was jealous that some other guy was with you and you didn't seem to notice me. But don't even say anything because I am a changed man!" He said.
"Oh so you're a man now?" I asked.
"Yup." He said.
I laughed.
He smiled.
"Do you feel better now?" He asked.
"We uh didn't talk for two days." I said.
He looked hurt and sad.
"I just want to know like why neither of us texted each other or said something. Like what if Chloe hadn't brought me to your house? Then we'd probably still be not talking to each other."
"I just didn't know what to say." He said. "Like I'm sorry I was an ass?"
"That's a start." I laughed.
"But you didn't need to take all the blame." I said."I walked away."
I started to tear up.
Damn hormones.
"Aw why are you crying?" Shawn asked scooting closer.
"Nothing I'm fine." I sniffled. I couldn't tell him why. That's gross.
I wiped my eyes and looked at him.
"Are we done now?" I asked.
"Talking about this?" He asked. "Yes. Dating?" He paused. "No."
I smiled.
He bent down and pressed his lips to mine.
I smirked against them and pulled away.
"You smell good." I said.
He laughed. "Thanks." He said. "I try."
I sighed and leaned my head against the wall. Shawn put his arm around my shoulders and I moved my head onto his shoulder.
He kissed my forehead. I placed my legs over his.
He smirked.
That moment right there was perfect.
It was like I completely forgot about everything.
Unfortunately, in my life moments like that don't last long.
