-Brooklyn's Birthday-
-Brooklyn-
I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing.
I checked the time.
6:00 am.
I groaned and rolled back over.
Only the buzzing didn't stop.
Text after text.
I groaned and grabbed my phone.
They were all Chloe.
Hey.
BROOKLYN
LEE
SANDERS
NO
WAY
AM
I
LETTING
YOU
SLEEP
THROUGH
YOUR
BIRTHDAY
GET
UP
RIGHT
NOW
Me: Jesus I'm up.
Her: Victory!
Her: Your finally 18 how does it feel?!
Me: I'm so old,.... 😰 But feels pretty much the same.
(A/n so Shawn's b day will be tomorrow in the story so he would be turning 18 too but I know he's not 18 in real life so should I go back and change the age? Or can we just pretend?)
Her: Can you come open your door? It's a little cold out here for shorts and a tank top.
Me: Chloe!!!
Her: Brooke seriously I'm freezing.
I laughed out loud as I descended down the stairs. I, myself was wearing grey mesh shorts and a rank top.
I opened the front door to reveal Chloe standing there wearing basically the same thing a duffel bag in her hand.
"Happy Birthday!" She squealed.
She dropped the bag on the floor and engulfed me in a bone crushing hug.
I laughed and hugged her back.
"Who's ready for the best birthday ever?!" She exclaimed.
"If this was going to be the best birthday ever-" I began. I helped her inside and closed the front door. "You would have let me sleep for at least another hour." I said.
"Sorry. No can do." She said.
She walked into the kitchen and began to make coffee.
I sat at the bar and let her do all the work.
"I'm gonna go get my phone." I said.
She nodded as she poured the coffee into some mugs.
I jogged up the stairs and searched my bed for my phone.
I patted down the sheets until I hit something hard and pulled out my phone.
I hit the home button, typed in my code and looked through my text messages.
Several were from unknown numbers saying they were family wishing me a happy birthday.
In my 18 years of living you think I would have saved them in my phone but when all they do is text you on your birthday there's really no point is there?
I pulled up my playlist on my phone and began to play music.
Chloe set the coffee in front of me.
"I'm hungry." I stated.
"I just made you coffee could you give me a minute?" She said.
I laughed and took a sip of the coffee.
It was perfect. She knew me too well.
She took a sip of coffee and sighed before standing back up.
"Pancakes and bacon?" She asked.
"Sounds good." I said smiling and giving her a thumbs up.
She laughed as she got out the ingredients and a bowl.
"Flour?" She asked.
I walked over to the cabinet and pulled out a new bag setting it on the counter.
She struggled while opening it until finally I heard the pop of the bag open and watched as flour puffed out.
"I'm not cleaning that up." I said in between laughs.
She groaned as she went along with making the pancakes.
I began to laugh just looking at her so I tried to distract myself by going on my phone.
I replied thank you to everyone who had texted me until I found the name I wanted to see.
Shawn
I smiled just seeing his name.
Happy Birthday Baby Girl! 🎉🎉
I responded:
I'm not a baby any more. 😞
He responded almost immediately.
Then Happy Birthday Girl!🎉🎉
I laughed as I read it and quickly responded back.
That's not as cute. 😞
I set my phone down to see Chloe flip the pancake she had in the skillet at the moment and place it on the plate.
My phone buzzed and I picked it up again.
What are you doing today?
It was from Shawn.
B- Idk.
S- Can I take you out?
B- No.
S- 😰😰😰
B- Of course you can. 😊😊
S- Okay! Be ready! Or else!
B- lol. I won't be trust me. 😉
S- Bye! Have fun!
B- I'll try!
I set my phone down and looked at Chloe.
"Are you done yet?" I asked.
"Almost." She said. "I'm only one person with two hands."
I laughed as she set a plate in front of me.
"Butter?" I asked to get on her nerves. "Syrup?"
She groaned and pulled out both setting them on the counter.
I laughed.
"Love you!" I said.
"Yeah, yeah." She said.
I pouted.
I needed a knife and fork but I was too lazy to get up and too scared to ask.
"Chlo can you pleaseee get me a fork and knife." I said really fast.
She laughed and handed me both.
She placed to pancakes on a plate with bacon for herself and sat down next to me, taking a sip of her coffee.
I smiled.
"Thank you!" I cooed.
She smiled back.
"Your very welcome!"
We ate in silence. The occasional comment was made but for the most part it was silent except the music.
I took my last bite as my grandma descended down the stairs.
"Happy Birthday!" She exclaimed. She kissed my cheek.
"Hello Chloe."
"Hello." She smiled.
"Brooklyn you better clean this up." She said.
"I will." I groaned.
"Okay." She said back. She made her coffee and sat down next to me.
"What are you girls doing today?" She asked.
"I don't know what ever crazy thing she has planned." I said standing up and motioning to Chloe.
I placed my plate in the sink and Chloe followed. Then she began to clean up the mess and I went and sat back down.
"You're not going to help?" My grandmother said.
"No." I scoffed. "She made the mess she can clean it up." I paused. "Plus," I added. "It's my birthday."
She laughed and looked at Chloe who just smiled and shook her head.
-After That-
Chloe grabbed her duffel bag and led the way upstairs.
I followed her as she walked into my room and shut the door.
She plopped down on the bed making a big boom.
She made a face like 'oh shit.'
I yelled downstairs: "Were okay!" Before anyone could ask because I knew they would.
"So anyways-" Chloe laughed.
"I was thinking the mall?" She questioned.
"We always go to the mall." I sighed.
"Well you're eighteen now Brooke!" She exclaimed. "What do you want to do?"
"I don't know." I sighed sitting next to her.
She pulled out her phone and began typing.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Looking up things you can do when your 18." She said.
"Tattoo?" She asked.
I scoffed.
"Piercing?"
"I don't want anything else pierced."
She sighed.
"Brooke is there anything else you want to do?" She asked. "What about like something on your bucket list?"
I sighed, leaning back and thinking.
I gasped.
"We should go hiking!" I exclaimed.
She groaned.
"You're killing me."
"Come on it'll be fun!" I said.
I quickly got dressed and threw my hair into a pony tail.
I washed my face and walked out to find Chloe fully dressed.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"Yup!" I said.
I grabbed my black north face and put waters, snacks, first aid kit and a few other things in there.
"We're going out!" I yelled.
"Okay have fun!"
Chloe drove and on our way my phone buzzed. I looked at who it was.
Leo.
Happy Birthday!
I froze.
"Hey Brooke you okay?" Chloe asked.
"Y-yeah I'm fine." I said.
I quickly responded with a simple thank you.
I was trying to be nice to him like my mother had said.
It was hard knowing all the things he had done though. Chloe pulled up to the trails and we got out and began to walk.
-After Hiking-
-Chloe-
"I'm so tired!" Brooke exclaimed plopping down on the seat.
"Hey you wanted to go!" I said.
She took a big gulp of water spilling a little on herself.
"Hey don't get any on my car!" I scolded.
"Relax it's just water." She said.
"Still." I pouted.
"What time is it?" She asked.
"2." I responded.
"Are you hungry?" She asked.
"A little."
Brooke pulled out two granola bars and we each had one before I pulled out.
"What else are we going to do?" I asked.
She was looking at her phone and began typing.
"Uhhhh-" she said. "Shawn's picking me up at,..." She trailed off.
"At??" I questioned.
"He's typing." She said staring at her screen.
I laughed.
"5!" She exclaimed, typing a few words and then setting the phone down.
"So what am I doing?" I asked even though I was pretty sure I knew the answer.
"Helping me get ready." She said.
I laughed. "Figured."
She smiled and I continued driving to her house.
When we pulled up we both got out and Brooke groaned.
"Oh I'm so sore." She whined.
"Yeah I know right." I said.
"Okay." She took a deep breath. "Just gonna walk it off." She was talking to herself.
She shuffled into the house and I followed behind her.
"Where is he taking you?" I asked.
"I don't know." She sighed. "He said dress casual but not too casual."
I laughed.
"Okay so you're thinking???"
"Skirt and shirt, cute shoes?" She asked.
"Makeup? Hair?" I questioned.
"Foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner, mascara and straight." She responded.
"Let's get started!" I said pulling her into her room.
-Three Hours Later-
(A/n when I wrote that I read it in like that voice from spongebob. Is it just me?)
-Brooklyn-
"Oh my god Brooklyn you look beautiful." My grandmother said.
"Thank you." Chloe bowed.
She had basically done everything for me but she liked that kind of stuff. When we were younger I had taught her most of the stuff anyways.
I smiled and blushed thank you.
"I need a drink." I stated sitting down.
I walked over to the fridge and grabbed a water.
Just then the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" Chloe sang.
By now my grandmother had already gone upstairs to check on my mother whom I had already said goodbye to.
"Hey Chloe." I heard Shawn say.
I heard murmurs as I grabbed a sharpie and wrote a B on my water for Brooklyn and put it back in the fridge.
I placed the sharpie back in the drawer and grabbed my wallet.
(A/n outfit is on the first page in the media.)
I walked over to the door.
I looked down as I walked to make sure I looked okay.
"Hey." I smiled looking at Shawn.
"Wow." He breathed.
He was wearing khakis and a flannel. His hair was neatly styled up and his eyes were wide.
"You-look-beautiful." He whispered.
I felt the heat rise to my cheeks.
"Thanks." I smiled and looked him up and down. "You don't look too and yourself."
He laughed throwing his head back as he did.
"Well I'll leave you two crazy kids to it." Chlo said.
Shawn stuck his hand out and I grabbed it willingly and he led the way to his car.
-Skip the Drive-
"Okay." He said, taking my hand.
"Okay." I smiled mocking him.
"Close your eyes." He stated. I did as he said.
I gripped his arm tighter as we began to walk.
He chuckled and continued on.
"Okay," he said. "Now stand right here with your eyes closed." He said.
"Am I outside?" I asked with my eyes still closed.
"Yes." He replied simply.
"What if someone comes and takes me!" I exclaimed.
"Then I would hunt them down and kick their ass." He said.
I smiled.
"Just stand right here I'll be back in like two seconds."
I heard a door open and close. I slightly opened one eye.
We were at his house.
Just then I heard the door open so I quickly shut my eyes.
"Brooke!" He whined.
"Come on!" I yelled. "I was scared!"
"God." He said.
"God." I mimicked.
"Are your parents home though?" I asked turning towards him.
"No." He replied. "They won't be home for most of the night." He paused, "And Aaliyah is at a friends."
"Just us?" I asked.
"Just us." He assured me.
I smiled.
"Can I open my eyes now?" I asked.
"Hold on two seconds."
He opened the door and led me through it with my eyes still closed.
"Okay." He took a deep breath. "Open."
