-Brooklyn-
I woke up and Shawn was still sleeping. I quietly got up to avoid waking him up.
I walked upstairs and was greeted my Mrs. Mendes.
"Good morning." She greeted me.
I smiled at her.
"Shawn still sleeping?" Mr. Mendes asked.
"Yeah." I laughed.
Everyone smiled.
Mrs. Mendes put two pancakes on a plate and handed them to me.
"Thank you." I replied.
She smiled and continued cooking more.
"What are you kids doing today?" She asked.
"Shawn said he would take me to the hospital to see my mom." I said, taking a bite of the pancakes.
"That's good." She said.
I smiled at her.
When I finished my pancakes I put the plate in the sink and thanked Mrs. Mendes again.
I went upstairs and opened the door to Shawn's room.
I put on a crop top and shorts.
I spent about five minutes looking in the mirror deciding if the crop top was acceptable to go our in the public.
You couldn't see that much skin if I held my arms down but if I put my arms up you could see like half of my stomach.
Whatever it should be fine. I sighed and went into the bathroom.
I brushed my teeth thoroughly and made sure my breath was minty fresh.
I brushed through my hair and put it up in a bun and then used hairspray to hold it down.
Then I did makeup using foundation, powder, and some mascara.
I came out of the bathroom and put my flip flops on looked in the mirror at my overall appearance.
When I thought I looked presentable I put all my stuff back in my bag and went downstairs.
Shawn was sitting at the counter eating.
He turned around with pancake in his mouth.
"Damn." He breathed.
Everyone looked at him and then looked at me.
'Oh my god Shawn.' I thought. 'Quick think of something.'
I could feel the heat slowly rise to my cheeks.
"These pancakes are goooood." He said taking another big bite and stuffing it in his mouth.
I bit my lip to keep from laughing.
"Are you almost done?" I asked walking closer to him.
"No but I will be soon because these are so good," he said winking at his mom.
I bit my lip again to keep from laughing.
He shoveled the rest of the food into his mouth and put the plate in the sink.
As he stood up I sat down in his chair and smirked at him.
He started to walk upstairs and then stopped.
"Brooke are you coming?" He asked.
"Uh-Yeah-Sure." I said, standing up and following him.
We got to his room and he pulled me in. I stumbled as he shut the door and his lips crashed to mine.
"God." He moaned against my lips.
I laughed.
"Hey do me a favor Shawn?" I asked.
"Yeah?" He said.
"Next time I come downstairs and your parents are there can you not say damn and look me up and down?"
He blushed.
I plopped down on his bed.
"Are you going to take me to see my mom?" I asked.
"Yeah give me like two seconds."
He grabbed clothes walked into the bathroom and came back out two seconds later, fully dressed.
"You're going to stay with me right?" I asked.
"Of course babe." He said.
I smirked and stood up, stretching as I did so.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
"I've been." I stated. "I was waiting for you to get your lazy ass out of bed Mendes." I said.
"Oh you're gonna pay for that." He said.
He picked me up and spun me around as I wrapped my legs around his waist. He pushed me up against the wall and it made a loud boom.
"Jesus Christ Shawn!" I yelled.
I jumped down and opened his door.
"Are you kids all right?!" His mother yelled.
"Of course they're all right Karen," I heard his father say. "They're probably just-"
"Woah- hey!" Shawn said walking downstairs. I followed him down.
"We're right her and fine. I'm going to take Brooke to the hospital."  He said.
"Why is she okay?" His mother asked.
"Oh my god." He said. He face palmed his hand.
"Come on Brooke." He grabbed my hand and pulled me out the door.
-Hospital-
I grabbed Shawn's hand as we walked into the ER.
Shawn began walking towards the elevators.
"Can we please take the stairs?" I asked.
"Why?" He said.
"Because-" I tried to think of an excuse.
"Are you scared of elevators?" He asked.
"No!" I defended.
"Brooke we go on them all the time together."
"Yeah but-"
"But what?"
"I don't know. I always knew that you'd be there to protect me." I stated.
"And what makes you think I'm not there to protect you now?" He asked raising his eyebrow.
"You can never be too sure." I stated.
"I will always, always be there to protect you. Whether it's from elevators, douche bags or a bee I will always be there." He said.
I smirked and pecked his lips.
"Can we still take the stairs?" I asked.
He chuckled. "Come on,..." He groaned.
"Come on it's good exercise." I persuaded. "You like to do that."
"True." He smiled.
"Good now let's go!" I said pulling his hand towards the stairs.
"I'll race you." I said.
"Your on short stuff." He said.
"Okay on your marks-" I paused looking him up and down. "Get set-" I paused again looking in front of me making a plan for how I was going to beat him. "Go!" I yelled. I darted up the stairs and made sure to check each floor as I went up.
Floor 2,.....Floor 3,.......Floor 4,........Floor 5,......
'Thats it!' I said in my head.
I opened the door and turned around but Shawn was gone.
I looked around the floor I was on.
It was the right floor, doctors and nurses walked around with clipboards in their hands or moving the carts with electrical stuff on it.
Where the hell did he go?
I opened the door to the stairs and yelled his name.
"Shawn!" It echoed throughout the small space and a few seconds later a panting Shawn came jogging down the stairs.
He stopped at the landing I was on and bent over breathing heavily.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I-" he breathed.
I lifted his head up with my finger and looked into his eyes.
Just looking at him made me smile.
"I meant race to the floor my mom is on not to the top dumb ass." I said.
He blushed and I pecked his lips.
I opened the door and walked into the array of nurses and doctors.
"So just to be clear, I won." I stated.
"Actually I went to the floor I just kept going and I made it there before you." He said back. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and I wrapped my arm around his waist.
"But I actually stopped on there and walked through the door before you." I fought back.
"Well-but-"
"Can't think of a good comeback Mendes?" I asked as we turned the corner.
"I ran way more than you." He said.
"Your a guy," I said.
"That's sexist." He shot back.
"I suck." I said.
"That's suckist." He came back.
I laughed. "Suckist?" I questioned.
"Yeah!" He said.
I laughed as we turned another corner and I almost ran into somebody,
"Sorry." I apologized.
"It's fine," he said. When he looked up my face immediately changed.
"Brooke." He said.
"Lyn." I finished for him. "Brooklyn."
"Brooklyn." He corrected nodding his head in my direction.
"Leo." I said.
Just seeing him got my blood boiling. Obviously I knew he was going to be here but somehow I had forgotten.
He continued to walk past us and to his destination. Hopefully that was home.
After he had passed us and walked away Shawn turned to me.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Yes!" I exclaimed exasperated.
"Okay!" He mocked me.
We walked to my moms room and Shawn stopped at the door.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm just-gonna-uh wait out here." He said.
"Oh no you're not." I said. "You're my bumper remember?" I asked smirking.
"I'm not sure I like this new name." He stated.
"Oh really?" I said pulling his hand into the room with me.
My moms bed was empty but my grandmother was sitting there.
"They took her for more testing." She said. "They're pretty positive she can come home tonight."
"Really?" My eyes lit up.
"Yeah they just need to make sure with this test."
I smiled to myself and sat down in a chair. Shawn shifted uncomfortably.
I stood up.
"Here sit down." I said.
"No-Brooke-" he tried To decline but I grabbed his hand and made him sit. Then I sat on his lap.
"This okay?" I asked.
"Mhm." He mumbled and bit his lip.
"Okay." I laughed.
"How long ago did she go in for testing?" I asked my grandma. I had to shift and turn around to face her causing a slight moan from Shawn and he bit his lip.
"About ten minutes they said it should take like twenty minutes so she should be back soon."
"Okay." I sighed.
We spent the next few minutes in silent until my mom was wheeled back into the room and helped by Shawn back into the bed.
He sat back down on his chair and I joined him on his lap.
"You're so sweet." I mumbled into his neck.
He smirked.
The room was silent for a few minutes.
"So-" my mother began.
I looked at her with eyebrows raised for her to continue.
"Your father-"
"Leo." I corrected.
"Your father-" she started again.
"He's not my father." I said. "If anything you should be happy I defended your honor. You're just gonna let him come in and take the role of father after 16 years? Where was he when I needed to learn how to ride a bike or when I needed to be potty trained or when I skinned my knee and needed help." I was standing by now.
"But he's your family." She said.
"Just because he's blood doesn't mean he's family." I shot back.
"We'll listen." She said. "I'm not asking you to like him you just need to be nice for now. Can you manage that?"
"I'll try my best." I said.
"Okay." She said. "You better."
"Or else we'll kick your ass." My grandmother added jokingly.
I laughed and so did Shawn.
We sat there in silence all mesmerize by the tv when I suddenly got this wave of hunger.
"I'm hungry." I stated.
"Me too," Shawn mumbled into my back.
I smirked.
"We're going to go get some food." I said to my grandma and mom.
"Okay!" They chirped.
I stood up and stretched.
Shawn followed and I grabbed his hand leading the way out of the room.
"Can we go to the cafeteria?" I asked.
"Anything you want." He said.
We walked hand in hand to the elevators and stood there waiting for them to come to this floor.
When they opened they revealed Chloe and Nash.
"Chlo!" I exclaimed. I gave her a hug and Nash and Shawn bro hugged.
"What are you guys doing here?" I asked.
"We came to visit you." She said.
"Me?" I asked.
"And your mom." She said.
"Well we were actually just going down to the cafeteria do you guys want to come?" I asked.
"Yeah!" Chlo said.
"I'm so excited." I stated as we got into the elevator.
"And whys that?" Shawn asked.
"I've never been to a cafeteria in a hospital. I heard the pizza is amazing." I replied smirking.
"Well I guess well have to get the pizza then." He said.
"Well I'm gonna." I said. "I don't know about you."
He laughed and brought his lips down to mine just as the elevator dinged.
"Sorry but that's all the time we have for today." I said as if I were on a talk show.
He laughed and kissed me anyways.
"Come on lovebirds!" Chlo said.
We walked to the cafeteria and circled around before finding the entrance.
"Finally!" I exclaimed. "I thought I was going to die of starvation."
Shawn laughed wrapping his arm around my waist.
-Shawn-
I wrapped my arm around Brooke's waist as we entered the cafeteria.
"This is so exciting!" She exclaimed.
"What?" I questioned.
"Going to a hospital cafeteria it seems so exciting." She said.
"You're girlfriend is weird." Chloe said.
"I know." I said smiling.
"Hey!" Brooke exclaimed turning towards me.
She slapped my chest.
"Come on!" I said. "It's why I love you!"
"Yeah, yeah." She said. "Nice way to try and save your ass."
Everyone laughed.
We went and grabbed our food and then checked out.
"Are you guys coming up?" Brooke asked.
"We were going to." Nash said.
"If that's okay." Chlo added.
"Yeah of course." Brooke smiled. It was amazing how through all of this she could still smile.
We led them up to her moms room and we all took a seat.
Brooke ended up on my lap again and Chloe ended up on Nash's.
We ate in silence until Brooke spoke up.
"What are we watching?" She asked mesmerized by the tv.
"Some house show." Her mother responded.
Brooke got up off my lap and grabbed the remote.
"Do you mind?" She asked her mother.
"No, go ahead." She said and laughed.
Brooke flipped channels. I watched the tv as the screen constantly changed revealing a different channel and different show.
She gasped.
Before I knew it I had shot out of my seat and was at her side.
"Friends!" She squealed.
It felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.
She smiled at me and pulled my hand over to the chair.
I sat down and she sat down on my lip causing me to bite my lip as she got situated.
She wrapped her arms around my neck and laid her head on my shoulder.
"I'm tired." She stated.
"Then go to bed." Chloe said.
"What time is it?"
"7:30." I responded.
"Oh you kids have to go!" Ms. Sanders said.
"Why?" Brooke asked.
"Visiting hours end at 8 and I don't want you driving home in the dark."
"Okay." Brooke groaned as she stood up and stretched.
She gave her mom a kiss and then her grandmother.
I hugged them both before we left.
Chloe did the same but Nash just
said goodbye.
We walked hand in hand down to the elevators.
"Can we take the stairs?" Brooke asked.
Chloe started to laugh but turned it into a cough when I glared at her.
She smiled weakly and turned to Nash.
"Yeah." I said to Brooke.
We walked in the other direction towards the stairs.
"We'll meet you down there!" Brooke yelled.
As we walked by a doctor glared at her when she yelled.
She gave him like the ultimate stare down until we turned the corner and then she banged her fists together.
(A/n if you don't get that it's a friends reference and you could probably look it up in youtube for like friends ross middle finger. It's the way one of the characters used to give the middle finger to his parents so that they wouldn't know.)
I laughed as we approached the stairwell.
We started downstairs and our feet moved in sync as we stepped down the stairs.
She looked up at me and smiled.
"Are you staying at my house tonight?"I  asked.
"I don't know." She said.
(A/n btw I know I never mentioned it but her mothers test results came back and she has to stay longer.)
"Why not?" I whined.
"Well I would need to get clothes and just Uhhh." She said.
"You can use mine." I said.
She smiled at me.
"That won't be weird?" She asked.
I just shook my head as we approached the door that leads to the lobby. We walked towards the elevators.
"Quick!" Brooke exclaimed. "Make it seem like we've been standing here forever!"
"Brooke it's a hospital and it's busy by the time they get here we probably would have been here forever.
She laughed and pecked my lips.
As her lips met mine I felt myself craving more so I placed my hand on the back of her head to keep her from pulling away.
I could feel her lips turn into a smile as she continued to kiss me.
"I don't know what I'm going to do when you leave." She sighed.
"I thought we weren't gonna talk about that." I whispered, centimeters from her lips.
"I'm really happy for you though." She whispered ignoring my statement.
"And-" she said. "You owe me."
"What?!" I exclaimed. "I don't owe you anything!"
"Yes you do!" She shot back. "I told you some big recording company was gonna sign you and I was right!"
"But nobody signed me yet." I said.
"Well you still owe me." She said.
"I don't owe you anything until I sign the dotted line." I said.
"Fine." She huffed. "But mark my words Mendes you will rue the day you said I was wrong!"
