“Call for backup,” I hear Skyren over the loud gunshots. “I repeat, we need backup,” he pushes me behind one of the trees just in time a bullet wheezes past me. “We have to ditch the cars,”

“What about Luca?” I asked. “You said you were taking me to-“

“I can’t exactly lead them to Mr Las,” Skyren cut me off, pulling me further into the dark forest. “We have to reroute and find a hideout spot until backup arrives,” for someone who’s quite smaller than me, he’s got the strength of a stubborn lion. I hate how I’m being pulled by the wrist like a child. I don’t comment on it, knowing that I’ll be in more danger if I put up a fight against him.

We had long ditched the cars and taken to the dark Greenland. It’s enough to shield us from the flying bullets. Sandy must be more stupid and reckless than I thought, releasing fire in the middle of civilisation, where everyone passing by can see. He’s that pathetic.

Skyren walks – more like drags me – me to a nearby fallen tree, where we hide in. I follow Skyren’s lead, scanning the area for any possible danger, but I cannot see in the dark. I grimaced when I realised that I left my phone and pretty much everything else in the car. When I look at Skyren, I see he doesn’t have his phone as well. Only the Watch he’s been talking in.

“How are they going to find us when we both have no phones?” I asked him. He casts me a quick look, before he resumes looking around. “Can you even see?” at that, I swear I see a smirk on his face.

“Yes,” was all he said. The watch beeped. When he looked into it, he frowned. “Fuck,” he muttered under his breath.

“That doesn’t sound good,”

“Backup’s too far from here,” Skyren reported to me. I’m rather grateful he doesn’t keep me in the dark, despite how ugly the situation is. “We need to keep moving,” he says standing up.

“What? I can barely see what’s in front of me. How do we know we’re not leading ourselves into more dang-“ I don’t get to finish my sentence when a blinding grenade explosion erupted closest to us, on our right. “Fuck. Okay, we keep moving,” I said squinting to keep any flying twigs and dust from getting to my eyes.

I blindly followed Skyren further into the forest, away from any possible explosions. True to his words, had we stayed, they would have found us and killed us. I can now make out flashlights from behind us.

“Luca,” I spoke up, trying to even my breathing as we’re more or less running. “Is he okay? How far are we from him?”

“Mr Las is okay,” Skyren reported. “Inga’s already reported to me. Backup got to them first,” I nodded, grateful to whatever backup he’s talking about.

“And…what about the others?” I couldn’t help asking. When Skyren turns to me. “Your friends,” I emphasised. I’m not that big of an asshole to not worry about them.

“Inga took a bullet,” that makes me freeze in my steps, my eyes widening as I stared at the back of Skyren’s surprisingly glowing white hair in the darkness surrounding us. “Keep moving, please,” he says without looking back.

I tried to hurry forth without tripping over my own feet. I wouldn’t know if I stepped on a snake, or another fallen tree. “Is he okay?”

“I don’t know,” he said.

“You look too calm,” I pointed out. I was too focused looking at his face that I tripped over yet another obstacle in front of me. “Shit,” I threw my arms forth, ready to catch myself when Skyren’s arm catches me, helping me to stand upright. I cussed under my breath. “This is so not how I wanted to spend my night,” I huffed out, hating how helpless I am. I can’t even contact either Raven or Luca.
