question of the chapter: which mikaelson sibling do you think would make the best romantic partner?

"Are you done yet?"

The first time Lydia had been asked that, she didn't mind at all. She understood that Kol didn't want to spend all day in her office, she didn't either. But after a work emergency came up, she had to go in. Kol understood. He stayed behind to sleep in the apartment before he came to bring her lunch around noon. Then he took a call with Klaus and Elijah that lasted an hour, came back to her office, complained about his brothers, left, came back an hour later, and said that he would wait for her. Then proceeded to ask her when she would be done. Three times in fifteen minutes.

"You know that you don't have to be here," Lydia said, hoping that it didn't come out as rude as it sounded on paper."You can go do whatever you want."

"No I can't," Kol answered firmly, causing Lydia to look up from her computer and across the room where she had a white leather couch next to a matching seat and a clear glass table, it was where she would host more informal meetings.

"And why is that?" Lydia sighed, placing her elbow on the black wooden desk and resting her chin on the top of her knuckles.

"Because the only thing I want to do is you," Kol answered with a small smirk, chuckling as Lydia's eyes instantly widened and her cheeks turned red. She quickly turned her attention back to her computer screen.

"Well, I'm working," Lydia reminded him once she composed herself."And will be for the next fifteen minutes. Okay? Promise. Then we can spend the rest of the day together since I have to go back to school tomorrow."

Kol nodded his head slowly."And I have to go back to New Orleans."

Lydia swallowed tightly. She didn't mind doing long distance with Kol. She accepted the fact that they both had lives in different places, and that they could respect each other's space, even though she would still miss him. The problem was Klaus. They couldn't visit, talk, or video call whenever. Because of Klaus. She tried not to think about that as she turned her attention back to her work, which only lasted about five seconds before Kol spoke up again.

"What is this?" He called out to her, but Lydia didn't look up from her screen.

"I don't know but don't touch it," Lydia said without even looking up, but a loud crash caused her head to snap up in the direction from which it came. She looked up in time to see Kol quickly emerging from the supply closet off to the side, closing the door behind him."What did you do?"

"Nothing," He quickly answered, walking to the other side of the office. Lydia just sighed and looked back at her computer. Only about fifteen seconds went by before Kol spoke again.

"Hey, why does this have my name on it?" Kol suddenly asked, pulling Lydia out of her thoughts. She hadn't noticed that Kol had gone over to a shelf filled with different files, each labeled.

Her eyes widened again as she flashed towards him, quickly grabbing the file out of his name and putting it back where it belonged."That is nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just a file. That has your name on it because. . . I like to give my files names. Makes them more personable."

"I know that you are not a good liar, Dia, but I'm embarrassed for you," Kol said honestly, causing Lydia to frown.

"Fine, it's something that I'm working on, but you can't see it yet, it's not ready," Lydia answered, hoping that he would accept that as an answer and move on.
