question of the chapter: the vampire diaries or the originals?

Why did he come?

That question played out through Lydia's mind on a loop as she stared ahead at Klaus. He didn't hesitate to make his presence known to her. He was determined. Lydia didn't expect anything else. But she couldn't quite figure out the answer to why he had come. Klaus made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with her. Lydia understood that. He told her to stay away from both him and the family, and Lydia had done so. Elijah came to her. She didn't seek him out. From what Lydia gathered, Klaus even knew about it. So why did he decide that he needed to travel all the way to California?

Klaus paced up in down his room, the wooden floorboards creaking with each step as he waited for his older brother to pick up his phone. He agreed to let Elijah go to California to check on Lydia, but he had been gone now for nearly a week, and ignored most of Klaus' calls. He wasn't going to call Elena or Stefan to let them know that he couldn't get a hold of his own brother, but luckily, Elijah eventually answered the phone.

"Elijah, I need you back here," Klaus insisted as soon as he realized that Elijah answered the phone.

"I told you that I cannot leave, Lydia is-" Elijah began to explain the situation, but Klaus only cut him off.

"I do not give a damn about Lydia right now," Klaus snapped."Your job was to quickly check on her, whatever hole she has dug herself into, I am certain that she can get herself out."

"I do not believe that she can," Elijah responded calmly. He knew how to handle his brother, and he wasn't planning on leaving Lydia anytime soon. Not like this."She needs help."

"This family has given her more than enough help," Klaus huffed, gripping the phone tightly in his hand. Kol had gone out, where he went, Klaus didn't know. But at least he was leaving the house again. Klaus had done his best to make sure that he didn't find out about Lydia and so far, Klaus that that he was successful. Kol didn't seem to know, and Klaus wanted to keep it that way, which was why he waited until Kol left to call Elijah.

"And for each offering of our help, she was given twice that in pain," Elijah responded almost immediately, causing Klaus to scoff.

Klaus didn't understand why Elijah was pushing for Lydia so hard. He was determined to help her, and to force the blame for what happened onto Klaus, himself, and Kol."I am not going to sympathize with the woman who tried to kill her family."
