but it's hard to hear
that distant voice
it would ring so clear
if we could only tune out the noise

Lydia had only been out of her bed for a few minutes now but she wanted nothing more than to crawl back underneath the sheets as she walked into the chemistry lab. She was relieved that the dark blue curtains were covering the windows that rang all along the back wall, the light only seemed to make her situation worse. Her head was pounding badly and it had been for the past few days. On occasion, she would get a short break but when she would, it would be filled with someone else. The same as the dreams she had been having only they would appear while she was still awake and they would be blurry. She had no clue why this was happening and she was scared to find out so she just hoped that it would go away.

"Hey," a voice spoke to her but Lydia didn't hear it at first as she sat down at her seat in the lab."Hey, are you alright?"

Lydia swallowed tightly and pressed her palm against her forehead then she ran it up through her hair while she turned to face Rebecca who sat next to her with a concerned look on her face. Ever since they met, Lydia and Rebecca had spent a lot of time together and moved so that they could sit together in class."It's just a slight headache."

"That's like the tenth time I've heard you say that these past few days," Rebecca sighed worriedly."Are you sure you're alright? Maybe you should see a doctor."

"No. I'm sure it'll pass," Lydia shook her head, not wanting to see a doctor for the headaches she was having. She knew it wouldn't be a good result and she wanted to avoid it. Lydia was aware that it was better to see a doctor sooner rather than later, but her fears as to what it was that was causing this was in the way.

"That's what you said yesterday," Rebecca reminded her as Lydia squeezed her eyes shut and clenched her jaw.

"It's fine," Lydia gritted through her teeth. She hoped that her new friend would drop it."Don't worry about it."

"You also said that yesterday," Rebecca added which only made Lydia roll her eyes and look up at the ceiling and away from Rebecca's worried eyes.

"I said that I'm fine," Lydia snapped at her with a piercing tone to her voice which only made Rebecca raise her eyebrows. Lydia sighed right after, feeling a little bad but she didn't know what to say so she just closed her eyes and kept quiet.

"Sorry," Rebecca apologized even though she wasn't really. Lydia was clearly not well and she wanted her to go get help but perhaps now wasn't the moment."I didn't mean to upset you."

Lydia bit down on her bottom lip, opening her eyes and getting ready to apologize but when she opened her eyes, she didn't see the chemistry classroom anymore. She didn't see the rows of labs in front of her or the whiteboard, but she was now in a parking lot filled with a dozen cars. It was night outside, stars filling the sky and the wind blowing softly. Standing in front of her was the man she saw in her dreams. Kol.
