I closed the front door and hung my school bag on my hook.

He's coming.

My eyes grew wide right when a blurry flash of blue whizzed towards me. Aaron ended up just inches in front of my face.

"Hey, Elle, I need to tell you something," Mom's voice echoed throughout the main hallway. I examined Aaron's bright blue eyes.

Mom entered the hallway stirring her homemade batter in a silver bowl.

"I see you've met-"

"Aaron," I cut her off.

Aaron slowly walked around me and to my side.

I looked at him again.

He's my roommate.

"He's my roommate?" I said skeptically.

"He's your roommate," Mom confirmed.

We faced each other, whispering exuberant "yes"es and pumping our fists.

"Elle, you should start getting him settled," Mom smiled. She disappeared into the kitchen.

I followed Aaron to the second floor, although he was already there once I put my foot on the first stair.
