Y/N's POV
I sat up, pressing my body against the headboard as I stared at the clock hanging on the wall.

11:52a.m.

I couldn't get a wink of sleep last night. I felt like a loser when I cried for the whole night. There were still dried tears stained on my cheeks. My eyes were swollen and my nose was still red.

At this point, I may as well be Rudolph the red nose reindeer or maybe act as a zombie in a Hollywood movie.

Last night, Jungkook passed out. His weight was killing me when he pressed his body onto mine completely.

I pushed all of my complicated thoughts and feelings to aside and asked for his passcode. Fortunately, he remembered it. 0000, how typical Jeon Jungkook.

After unlocking the door to his unit, I simply dropped him on the couch and ran straight back to my unit.

Then I just started pouring out tears continuously. I wasn't crying beautifully like the female leads in Korean dramas.

I was almost crying my eyeballs out, ugly crying, sometimes even choking on my own saliva as unforgettable memories flooded through my mind for the rest of the night.

Eventually I stopped crying at 6a.m. I turned to stare at the clock for hours until now, 12:02p.m.

I heard my doorbell ringing, following by a soft knock on my apartment's door.

Jumping off of my bed, I folded my pink duvet swiftly and straightened my pillow before dragging myself to the door.

"Who is it—"

I froze after seeing the man from last night. My heart jumped when he sent me a shy smile, rubbing his nape.

Anxiety took over me. I tried to shut the door, but he acted fast and placed his feet in between the door to prevent me from shutting it. He then hissed in pain, those dark brown eyes searching mine desperately.

I gave in. Mouthing a quick 'sorry', I slowly opened the door and invited him in. He smiled again which I couldn't return, so I pressed my lips into a thin line.

"Have a seat."
I pointed to the couch as he quietly obeyed.

I walked to the kitchen to pour him some warm water. I wasn't surprise when the mug almost slip out from my grasp.

Sure, I was tensed and nervous. It has been 9 years anyways, he was a different person. The tiny and childish Jungkook that I knew before changed completely. He became a fine man.

I took in a deep breath and exhaled sharply before striding over to the living room.

"Water?" I could hear my voice cracking a little as I handed him the mug. His cold fingers brushed against mine.

I planted myself onto the couch, making sure to leave some distance between us as I started playing with my fingers. My palms were already sweaty. It was super awkward.

Finally, something killed the dead silence. I took a glance over to my phone sitting on the coffee table.

It was Jinyoung. I cleared my throat and looked over to Jungkook. He gestured for me to answer it and I did, pressing the phone against my ear with a gulp.

"J-Jinyoung?"

"Hey— Why are you stuttering?"

"I'm not!"

I yelled accidentally. Jungkook turned to me with a surprised expression before letting out a soft chuckle.

"Who's there? Are you with someone?"

"N-No, I'm not. What do you want?"
I lied unknowingly.

"Hae Na wants to go to the movies. You coming?"

"No, you two go ahead."
I said and saw Jungkook waiting patiently from the corner of my eyes.

"Suit yourself then."

Jinyoung hung up on me. I placed down my phone onto the coffee table carefully as I could feel Jungkook's intense stare on me.

"You uh, still hang out with Jinyoung and Hae Na?"
He spoke up, startling me a little.

I nodded numbly, trying as hard as I can to avoid eye contact with him.

Not trying to be exaggerating but the both of us really did changed, as in our personalities changed. I don't know what kind of person he is now.

We were kids back then, now we meet again as grown adults.

"How are you?"

"I'm—"

He cut me off before I could finish what I wanted to say.

"Peanut, can you please look at me?"

Jungkook's POV
I saw her trembling even more. My heart clenched at how scared and hurt she must've been all these years.

I regretted not telling her that I was leaving. I regretted taking my brother's advice to leave quietly.

I was the one who messed up and ruined our friendship. She was a really great friend along with Jinyoung and Hae Na.

"I can't." She replied nonchalantly, shifting uncomfortably on the couch.

"Peanut, listen to me—"

"Please, don't call me that."

I scooted closer to her, hoping that she would forgive me for what I've done.

Instead of teasing me like she used to when we were young, she distanced herself from me even more, sitting at the edge of the couch, still not looking at me.

My heart sank. I could feel my eyes getting watery, but I held it in, inhaling deeply.

"Pea—"

"Jeon Jungkook, my name is Lee Y/N, not peanut anymore. I'm not the same as before and I believe that you've changed too, so don't act like we're still close."

At this rate, my heart cracked into two. An unknown feeling took over me as my eyes softened. It was a new feeling, mostly guilt but at the same time, it wasn't guilt.

I mustered up all my courage and took her small shaking hands into mine. She flinched and tried to push me, but I was stronger.

"Don't touch me," she sounded dangerous, but her expression said otherwise.

A tear rolled down her cheek slowly. I wiped it with my thumb, as expected, she turned to face the other side with a sniffle.

"Y/N, I-I'm sorry."

"Not every 'sorry' deserves an 'it's okay' in return."

Flashback ;
Third-Person's POV
"Where are my pweanuts?"
The boy whined with a pout when he opened his lunch box to see it empty again.

He couldn't pronounce the word 'peanut' properly since he was still young.

On the other side of the class, a girl hurriedly stuffed the stolen peanuts into the pockets of her school uniform.

"These pweanuts are so good. He see me?" She asked her desk mate, Joy, looking over to the boy with a sneaky grin.

"No, I hope that mean girl will keep her mouth shut."

Joy came from a rich family, her family hired a private tutor, so she's better at pronouncing words than the other kids at school. Her vocabulary was also on a different level than the normal kids.

"Hey, 'shut' bad word? Why? Did she see me taking his pweanuts?"

4 year old Y/N smacked the head of her desk mate playfully. They giggled.

"Yeah, she saw you taking Jungkook's— She's talking to him!"
Joy whisper-yelled at her friend, hitting her arm continuously to warn her.

"Who's Jungkook?" Y/N shrugged, taking out a peanut from her pocket and secretly cracked it open with all her strength.

She didn't knew the name of the owner's lunchbox. She only knew it was a he, a good looking boy which everyone admired.

"He's coming! Stop eating!"

Joy tried to hide her friend, but it was too late. The boy arrived at their seats and shot an intense glare at the clueless girl, still munching onto the nut.

"Hey, you."

Y/N didn't noticed the boy's presence and continued cracking another nut. Little Jungkook let out a scoff and stood right in front of her, placing both hands on her table.

"Hey, pweanut."

Y/N looked up to see the familiar boy who had an unreadable expression on his face. She jumped in surprise since their faces were so close to each other and accidentally threw the peanut at him.

He wasn't mad. He wasn't disgusted. For some reasons, he found her cute even though she wasn't the prettiest girl.

From that day onwards, he stuck to her as if he'd die without her. They lived in the same neighbourhood, so Jungkook would wait for her to go to school together.

Just like that, they became best friends. Soon, Y/N introduced Jungkook to Jinyoung and Hae Na.

Kindergarten, middle school, high school. From the age of 4 until 15, they stuck together every single day.

Every time they fought, they would forget about their fight and will still walk to school together the next day.

No one could tear them apart.
