ROV
━━ ☆ ★ ☆ ━━
Atlanta woke up with a huge headache. Her hand clutched the side of her head and she squinted her eyes due to the sun that was peeking through the curtains. She let her eyes adjust for a minute before looking around.
She wasn't at home.
"JJ?" Atlanta whispered as she looked at the boy asleep on the floor.
She found herself smiling at him. At how innocent and vulnerable he looked. His hair fell in front of his eyes and his lips were pouted ever so slightly.
"Morning princess." He whispered back groggily. He rubbed his eyes and let out a low groan. "How you feeling?"
"Shitty." Atlanta mumbled honestly. "And uncomfortable." She said as she looked down at her pastel pink dress from the night previous. "How did I even end up here?"
"John B and I saw you on our way back from-" He couldn't tell her that he was heading back from breaking into his dads old work, aka the scrapyard. "Dropping Pope off." JJ said as he sat on the bed, "You were pretty drunk."
"Rise and shine!" John B sang as he swung the door opened, Kie and Pope were stood behind him, holding the ROV.
"Good morning to you too." Atlanta chuckled, she winced slightly at his loud tone but then noticed Pope and Kie standing behind him looking at her in confusion. Kie didn't really like Atlanta, mainly because Atlanta 'stole' Sarah from her.
"Get dresses JJ, we'll be down at the docks when you're ready." Kie instructed.
Atlanta laughed and saluted, even though she wasn't talking to her. The three of them left, leaving JJ and Atlanta alone again.
"I text Barney last night, he knows you're safe. I told him you were staying here." JJ admitted with a small smile as he searched through his duffel bag for a new top to wear.
"Thank you." Atlanta smiled gratefully.
Atlanta didn't know whether she was actually thankful, Barnaby may think that JJ is hot, but that doesn't mean that he trusts or likes him. She wondered if he told their dad or if he remained silent and did say a word to him.
"You want to borrow something?" JJ questioned looking back at the girl.
"I don't suppose you have any dresses in there do you?" She chuckled, as she fixed the flower in her hair.
JJ had let her fall to sleep with it in her hair. She allowed the corners of her lips to curl upwards. He knew how much it meant to her without even knowing why she wore it.
"I can't say I do." JJ laughed, "But, my tops will be like a dress on you anyways." He shrugged and threw a top to her. "Plus it's better than staying in that, it looks uncomfortable."
Atlanta let out a half hearted chuckle, "It is."
There hadn't been one day in Atlanta's life that she hadn't wore a dress. So to be wearing a shirt as a dress would be different to say the least. Atlanta pulled off her dress and pulled on JJ's plain dark blue shirt.
She tried her hardest to make the shirt seem more dress like, but nothing was working. She'll admit, she did like the way the shirt brought her comfort and safety.
JJ didn't miss the way the girl brought the shirt up to her nose and inhaled. He smiled, a light blush forming on his cheeks at the fact that he knew it smelt like him.
"It looks good on you." JJ complimented, making Atlanta blush, more so that she was already since she knew JJ had caught her smelling his shirt.
"Thanks." She smiled and twirled around.
"You wanna come down to the dock with us?" JJ offered as he opened up the bedroom door.
"Uh-I'm sure I'm not wanted there, being friends with Sarah Cameron and all." Atlanta shrugged and looked down at the floor.
JJ walked up to girl and cupped her face. "I want you there." He whispered, placing a light kiss on her lips.
He didn't know what came over him, they just have the occasional hook up, that's it. But he stayed awake most of the night thinking about how she admitted that he made her happy.
JJ began to think that maybe he did actually have a shot with the girl. That maybe if he made her even half as happy as she made him, then they'd be good for one another.
"You do?" She whispered, their lips only centimetres a part.
She missed the way his lips felt against hers. The way they were so soft and gentle. She wanted them pressed against hers again, his hands roaming every inch of her body. But before she got a chance to connect their lips JJ spoke up.
"I do." He nodded and linked their hands, he pulled her all the way down to the dock, where the others were.
John B and Kie were already in the water and Pope has just finished setting up the drone, not that he exactly knew what he was doing. But that didn't mean he wasn't going to try and figure it out.
"What is this right here?" JJ said clicking a random button.
Pope scoffed and his eyes flickered to Atlanta. He offered her a small smile but gave JJ the side eyes. This was meant to be a pogue thing and as much as he liked Atlanta, he wasn't sure how it was going to work if she was watching over their shoulders constantly.
"Don't touch that." Pope said smacking away his hand. "I'm trying to work this thing out."
"What do you need it for anyways?" Atlanta questioned as she knelt down beside Pope. JJ's eyes widened, he didn't expect her to ask questions. "Oh-umm-I wouldn't touch that if I was you." She said pointing to a button that Pope was going to click.
"Why?" Pope questioned as they both avoided the first question.
"Well this button would make the camera shut off, so you wouldn't be able to see Kiara or John B." She explained with a smile, she had expected them to know this since they had the ROV, but it seemed like they didn't, so she continued. "This button records it." She pointed to a small green button.
JJ watched the girl closely, as did Pope buy for completely different reasons. Pope was attempting to learn and JJ was simply checking the girl out.
"This one ends the recording." She pointed to the red one next to it. "This is how you spin the camera around." She said as she held the dial.
"God bless geeks." JJ teased looking to Atlanta, his hands gripping her waist and pulling her into his chest.
"I'm not a geek. My dad has the exact same one, he taught Barnaby how to use it, he didn't teach me because it's not lady like." She scoffed. "So I got Barney to teach me." She laughed at the memory.
Pope and JJ both shared a look, they needed her for this ROV, but were they willing to tell a Kook about the royal merchant? Pope was trying to think of another way to get her to help without leaking information about the royal merchant, but he wasn't sure it could be done.
"Hey Attie?" JJ turned to look at the girl with a smile. "Will you go get me a water?" He questioned once John B and Kie resurfaced from the water.
"Umm, sure." She nodded, the four of them obviously needed to talk, without her. She understood.
Atlanta looked through the house to find a glass to fill with water, but all she could find was red solo cups. She filled one with water and made her way back down the the dock. She faintly heard raised voices that shut up the second she arrived back at the dock.
"Thanks, princess." JJ smiled and took the water from her hand. Their fingers brush together slightly, making Atlanta flustered.
She knew that they'd been talking about her and she knew that they were going to be doing something that they didn't want her to know. And she accepted that. She understood that she wasn't a pogue and that they probably didn't want her involved. But they needed her knowledge on the ROV, that much was obvious.
"Look. I don't care what you're doing. You don't even have to tell me. But at least let me teach Pope how to properly use the ROV." Atlanta said confidentially as she looked to ROV.
JJ smirked at the girl. He liked the confidence that radiated from her.
Kie scoffed. "She's a kook, we cant trust her."
"You're a Kook, maybe they can't trust you." Atlanta said turning to face Kie. Kiara looked lost for words. "That's what I thought." She snapped with a smirk. JJ let out a low whistle and Atlanta chuckled. "Call me when you need help Maybank." She said tapping his chest and walking away.
