First love. (an Malec high school au)

The realization

Mr. Bane landed in the airport for his business, he got out of the airport and met with his business partner, greeted him and his son.

"Mr. Cartwright! and James such a pleasure to meet you guys." He greeted enthusiastically.

James, Mr. Carwright's son is now 23 years old, he accompanied his father with a hope that one day he'll be taking over the company. 

"Mr.Bane it's a pleasure to finally meet you, I've heard a lot about you sir" he exclaimed as he extended his hands to Mr.Bane, who gladly took it. They directly went to the hotel they're going to stay in and called it a night.

The next morning the emergency meeting was held to discuss upon the loss that the company had recently faced, the tension in the room increased by minute, it was almost suffocating. Mr.Bane couldn't help but think of his son in between but he had to keep up his demeanor as a professional. He shook his head a little, clearing his thoughts and focused on the whiteboard in front of him, A couple of minutes the meeting was adjourned and the respective member took their leave. Mr. Bane, Mr. Cartwright, and James took a leave as well. Mr.Bane is the closest to Mr.Cartwright and they have been with each other since forever and thus he's the only man Mr.Bane trusts and for James. He's practically seen the kid grow up, he's almost like another son to him. Unlike Magnus, James is more composed, maintains a professional attitude, just how a business man's son should look like. undeniably Mr.Bane has been envious of Mr.Cartwright sometimes but nonetheless he loved the kid with all his heart like his own son.

As they got down the elevator and outside the building premises, the sun was scorching, James said them two to wait here while he gets them something refreshing to drink. James walked to the other side of the road to get them drinks while Mr.Bane was talking to his best friend about the meeting that was held earlier. 

That was when unexpectedly the heard a loud thud, startled both the men in the suit turned to look at the source of the sound. Mr.Cartwright dropped the phone he was holding and he ran screaming "JAMES!!!"

Mr.Bane ran behind, it all happened to fast, he couldn't process what had just happened, a speeding car just ran over James, throwing him over to the other side of the road, the drinks in his hand flew the other direction. Mr.Cartwright ran over the other side not caring about the vehicles, he ran like his life depended on it, he lifted James off the floor and held him tight

"No no no no no James, no, please. Don't leave me, James come on look at me, we'll make it okay? we will get you to the hospital please stay awake for me please don't close your eyes" He sobbed hard clutching onto James's tux begging him to stay awake, Mr. Bane knelt next to them calling the ambulance.

James's whimpered grabbing onto his father's shirt he whispered "I'm sorry dad I-" and that was it, his soul left his body, his face turned emotionless, his body limp. James had just died. Mr.Bane felt his heart sink, he felt hollow inside, he wanted to cry but he couldn't. He was suffocating, people surrounded them, but in distance, he heard the siren they took his body but Mr.Cartwright screamed and didn't let go of his son's lifeless body. Grief took over his body, he stayed by his friend comforting him but there was only one thing on his mind right now. Magnus.

Seeing Mr.Cartwright in that position made him weak, he's never seen the man cry. He couldn't help but put himself in that position with Magnus instead. His heart couldn't take it, he knew he would die of grief. All his life, ever since Magnus's mom left him, he blamed Magnus. he despised Magnus, but then why couldn't his heart take it? realizing that Magnus completed his life, without Magnus, he has no one else in his life to call family, Magnus was his everything but he ruined it, His chest constricted, he was physically able to feel the pain in his heart. Seeing Jame's body he realized how life is short. He realized he had to fix his mistakes, but how? Magnus hates him now that he doesn't even want to see him anymore. But he has to try, he has to mend the bonds, blood is thicker than water, Magnus will sure understand, Magnus will forgive him, right? If not Mr.Bane is now determined to do anything.

(Time skip after a few days after James's funeral)

Mr.Bane landed and rushed back home almost immediately, he stayed for a few days with Mr.Cartwright and his family but decided to leave realizing even the family need the personal space to mourn. 

He thought Magnus would return but he never did, this broke Mr.Bane's heart, he called Ragnor, Magnus's best friend. At first, Ragnor hesitated but ended up giving Alec's address. He drove fast there and knocked on the door, hoping to see Magnus It was really early but he couldn't care less. After a few minutes, Maryse opened the door. 

"Ah! Mrs.Lightwood!" He exclaimed

"It's Ms.Trueblood, Mr.Bane" she corrected almost as if she was disgusted by the name he called her previously 

It took a second but Mr.Bane realized. He was about to bow his head a little to apologize but Maryse spoke "and if you're here for Magnus you c-" 

"I'm here to talk to your son," he said cutting her off.

"Alec?" she asked doubtfully

"Yes I want to talk to Alec" and just as he finished saying that Alec emerged from behind the door towering both of them and looked at Mr.Bane intimidatingly. 

"What are you doing here?" He spat.

"Alec I'm here to talk to you, please just hear me out." that statement startled Alec but Alec knew he couldn't just push him away, after all, he was Magnus's father.

After a few minutes, Alec threw on a jacket and followed Mr.Bane, it was still early therefore not a lot of shops were open but there was a small cafe that was open with almost nobody inside, they settled in and ordered coffee. 

"Alec I know Magnus doesn't even want to see me right now, that's why I wanted to talk to you. I want to fix this, I can't lose him, Alec. I love him" Mr.Bane said with his eyes getting moist.

"Why don't you tell this to him directly Mr.Bane?" Alec asked thinking it would just solve the problems easier.

"Because right now, the only person he will listen to, is you." He replied.

Mr.Bane spilled everything that happened saying he's genuinely sorry. Alec thought he should try and convince Magnus, Mr.Bane is hurt as well. After talking for a while Alec decided he would talk to Magnus that evening.

(Time skip)

Alec and Magnus sat on the rooftop intertwining their hands together with Magnus leaning on Alec's shoulder. Alec had just explained everything that has happened.

"What do you think I should do Alexander?" Magnus asked, snuggling closer to alec's body.

"Whatever decision you take, remember I will by your side" Alec replied

"That doesn't answer my question babe" Magnus replied teasingly, Alec chuckled softly that made Magnus's heart flutter.

"It's your decision Magnus I don't know." 

Magnus thought he should give his dad another chance, and that's what he was going to do give another chance to rebuild their relationship. Things were finally getting better, everyone was happier and Magnus was finally able to scream to the entire world that Alec was mine. No more secrets, no more hiding, he could be in love without having to be afraid. Alec and Magnus belonged to each other in every parallel world that exists, they will always be the ones for each other and no one can say them otherwise.
