Chapter 34 - 48 hours

Start from the beginning

"I wouldn't... be opposed to the idea. But he is a very dangerous man. Lethal force may be the only way to stop him," Y/n replied, crossing her arms. "What brought this up?"

"I just don't know if it's possible. He's not human, and last time I tried killing him, he came back to life. Somehow..." Midas grumbled, looking down at his desk and sighing.

"We'll figure something out, Midas. I promise," she smiled softly. "Take a break, eat and relax."

Midas nodded and took the sandwich, "Thank you, doll. I'll see you in a few hours." She nodded and began to walk our, shutting the door behind her.

Midas leaned down to shut his computer off when it beeped, alerting him to a new notification. He furrowed his brows and sat up, clicking his email open.

He hummed in confusion, reading and rereading who the email was from. It was marked as important, but he didn't recognize the sender. He debated opening it or not - but what lured him to unravel the mystery was the title.

"If you want her to stay alive, listen carefully, Patient 38."

Midas leaned back in his chair, reaching his arm behind his head as he traced his fingertips across his tattooed neck, over the words P-38. He sighed softly, it was the only tattoo he hadn't wanted. It wasn't even a tattoo - it was a brand, a mark.

He had been branded by his captor, Chaos Agent, years ago. He shuddered at the memory and closed his eyes, taking a moment to debate opening it or not.

Figuring it was important enough to open, reluctantly he clicked on it to open. The body of the message was empty, and all that the email held was a video attachment.

He felt his heartbeat speed up in slight fear as he clicked on the video. The video went into full screen mode, and began to play.

It showed a dark, dull room with an empty chair in the center of it. He furrows his brows, looking around the video for any hint as to who sent the email. After a moment, the sender came into view.

"Hello, Midas. I see you're still alive... pitifully," the man grumbled, crossing his arms. It was Chaos Agent.

Midas' fists tightened into an angry ball as his jaw clenched, "This fucking bastard."

"I'm sure you're confused, so I'll be clear, concise, and right to the point. You know more than anybody that I am a man of science over anything," he began, sitting down in the once empty chair. "My organization knows this well, as do you, Patient 38." the image of Chaos Agent's black goey smirk frightened Midas, making him worry as to what he wanted.

"Each top agent of mine earns a special rank. They become my right hand, my most trusted agent when it comes to everything. I prepare them for the Treatment. Oftentimes, when I think that Agent is ready, they fail their Final Task. However, if they don't, they never survive their Treatment. Except for two. And you, Midas, have one of them."

Midas furrowed his brows, who could he have meant? Surely, he didn't mean—

"Y/n. Her Final Task was to infiltrate Ghost so I'd be able to kill you. And she failed, because of you," he sneered. "You made me lose my best Agent. She would've been the only one to complete the Treatment, and you took that away from me!" he roared.

"So instead... I had to find someone else. Sorona. She already passed her Final Task, kidnapping Y/n. Don't worry - Y/n is safe. This was prior to your failure to activate the Device," Chaos Agent chuckled, knowing that comment would get under Midas' skin.

"Sorona is ready for the Treatment. However, I'm still holding out hope for Y/n, since I am not as confident Sorona can handle it as much as Y/n can. So... I'm giving you a choice, Midas. I'll allow you to choose who gets the Treatment. Y/n or Sorona."
