Y/n and Midas lounged for what felt like hours in bed with each other, talking about anything and everything. She laid her head on his bare, tattooed chest and answered questions about her life as he rain his golden fingertips across her skin gently.

As she spoke, she could hear his steady heartbeat from where she laid on his chest, and the warmth from his body warmed her entirely, too. Minutes had felt like hours, and before either of them had noticed, it was nearly noon.

Midas turned to look at the clock and his eyes widened, "Shit!"

Y/n jumped, startled as he quickly pushed her off of his body gently. Midas stumbled as he rushed over to his closet to grab one of his suits. His favorite suit had just been cleaned, so he picked that one to put on quickly. He mumbled to himself as he slid his pajama pants off and into the hamper.

"It's almost noon, Y/n," he sighed, putting his slacks on quickly, "the agents are going to get suspicious." Y/n frowned and laid back down in bed, stretching as his dress shirt from the night before slid up her near-naked body slowly.

He glanced over as he started to fix his tie and smirked, looking back into the mirror and glancing at her through it, "Don't try to make me come back for round three, Y/n."

"I can't help it!" she whined and giggled, "Pleaaaase? Third times the charm."

"Y/n!" Midas laughed, walking over and kissing her deeply, "as much as I want to, I can't. And we shouldn't." he pulls away and takes her hand, kissing it gently, "but that doesn't mean we can't see each other at night again."

"But you're my boyfriend," she pouted, "can't we be public?"

"As much as I want to, it's not the best idea in the middle of a war like this," His smile faded and he crossed his arms, "You could be a target."

"You're not wrong about that," she sighed, sitting up and rubbing her eyes, still a little sleepy from everything that went down. "So.. nobody knows yet?"

"Only us. But I promise, the moment we can, I won't shut up about you," Midas grinned. "Now, as much as I love seeing you in that, we both gotta get outta here," he chuckled. "Now go get dressed."

"Where even is my dress?" she laughed, standing up and looking around for it. "It's in the laundry room, across from the closet," Midas explained, walking out from the bedroom into his office and sitting down at his desk, "I cleaned it while you were sleeping!"

"Thank you handsome!" she called out as she went to search for her dress. If she was lucky, she could sneak to her room before anyone saw her come out of Midas' room in the same dress as last night.

Midas opened his laptop, and stopped for a moment. He thought back to what he told Y/n - that she could be a target.

Surely, he was wrong. Right?

Curiosity got the better of him, and before he could stop himself he quickly searched up her name in the Agency's database, just to make sure she was alright.

NAME: Y/N L/N

AGE: 26

AFFILIATION: UNCONFIRMED

"Neither?" Midas raised a brow. "Interesting..." he mumbled.

STATUS: ALIVE

THREAT LEVEL: MEDIUM. HIGHLY DECEPTIVE, BUT NOT LETHAL

"Deceptive, huh?" Midas chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, no. I have nothing to worry about."

Midas clicked out of his browser and instead, went to check his emails. He frowned noticing an email from his secretary, Rook. He opened it, and immediately fear began to bubble up in his heart.

Sir,

It came to my attention that our newest Agent, Agent L/n, could be in danger. Shadow currently has a bounty put on her head, and she is wanted dead or alive. I'm not sure for what, but the price is high. We need to protect her before something happens. It is a very high possibility that she is on the run from Shadow as well, but I don't know what for yet.

We need to be smart about this, sir. Our next move is up to you. I guess this is a possible rule out that she is not the supposed Spy from Shadow.

Rook

His heartbeat was deafening in his ears as he read over the email again and again to make sure he misread it. That she was wrong. He reluctantly clicked the image that Rook had attached, and he felt his anxiety grow worse.

WANTED: Y/n L/n

DEAD OR ALIVE

500,000 V-BUCK REWARD

"F-five hundred thousand..." he hadn't felt this sick, nervous, and downright terrified in forever. His Y/n, the girl he loved, had a bounty on her worth 500,000 V-Bucks. And with how lethal Shadow could be, this was serious. He had to protect her, no matter what the cost.

"Midas, seriously, what's going on?" Y/n frowned, walking into his office.

He jumped and immediately closed the laptop, "What?"

"You look like you've seen a ghost," she giggled. "What's wrong, sweetheart?"

"Nothing," he sighed, standing up from his desk. "Just stressed about Shadow, that's all. Nothing out of the ordinary."

"You sure?" she frowned, walking over to him and resting her hands on his chest, looking up at him. He nodded and pulled her close to his chest, hugging her tightly, "Yeah. I'm sure. Just.. for awhile, please don't go anywhere outside the Agency without me knowing. It's too dangerous out there."

"Why, because of Shadow?" she laughed, standing on her tippy toes and pecking his lips gently. He returned the kiss, more meaningful and passionate as he tightened his grip on her hip, "Exactly because of Shadow."

"It's not like I can't handle myself," she pouted. "I"ll be okay. But, just for you, I won't go anywhere."

"Thank you, doll," he sighed into her hair and stroked her cheek gently. "I love you," she looked up at him and he smiled back down at her, "I love you more. Be safe."

"You too, handsome." she kissed him again and pulled away, walking outside his room and back to hers.

Midas watched her walk out and sighed heavily. He sat on his couch and ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

Just when things were looking up, everything began to crash back down again. His mind was clouded with so many things it was hard to focus on one thing. First, was Y/n lying when she said she had never been in any kind of alliance with Ghost or Shadow? Second, who wanted her dead and why? And third, what was he going to do about the Device now if he had no use for it anymore?

He finally let Damodice and Marigold go - so why would he need to risk the entire island to bring them back? Of course, there was the possibility that the Device could finally break the Loop... but Midas felt as if he knew what to do.

He stood up and grabbed his phone, calling Rook. She picked up quickly and began to talk but he talked over her, "Cancel all orders from Kevinology. Send them the money due, but cancel the orders."

"But, sir-"

"Now, Rook!" he snapped, slamming the phone down in frustration.

Why can't I be happy for more than one fucking day?
