Journey of a Lifetime

Down an endless winding trail
Always disappearing in the distance
Shrouded in darkness and obscurity
I venture onward out of sight
Fearless but always wary
Looking for a friendly face
Or an obvious opportunity
The days are sunny and filled with bright beaming beauty
The nights are long and seem to be on the horizon at all times
Storms roll my way on occasion
Lightning stings while thunder claps
Soaked in rain and trudging through mud
My eyes guided down the winding path
It takes all my strength and wisdom
Avoiding falls and stumbling along
Finding a face or two, we sing a song
Till that old sun rises again to shine the way ahead
After some time I found myself lost in a dark wood
The path unclear dissipates among the thickest brush and falling leaves
I look to the stars to find my way
And there they show the path home
There at the end of the winding trail
A warm place to rest my bones
Memories of company come and gone Making every thought clearer to me
And the bed softer in which I lay down to rest
