A Certain Sadness

Not tied to any one thing, scene, or circumstance
Hiding there among the days of my life,
Tucked away around the corner of thought,
Nestled somewhere behind my heart.

More than just the lowest emotional capacity,
Could it just be an urge to do something else?
Perhaps a desire for change in life and love?
Is it fear that has made its impression visible?

The weight of memory piled endlessly upon me
Indisernible scars just beneath the skin
Detached and wandering into the void
Aimlessly driving under the sun's shadow

It simply refuses to be forgotten
Lingering when I would rather it not
All my younger selves gather round and talk,
Distant dreams still daunting.

Knowing that desparate loss is yet to come
That pain has only taken the weekend off.
Is it you there?
Frozen in the bittersweet of never again

Gradually hardening against the cold world,
One defeat blending into another glorious defeat
Too late to turn away.
I can only accept a certain sadness within me.
