Waves of excitement subside
Leaving reality in the open
Another night my heart leaps
At least for the time being
Feels like it might last forever
But in the blink of an eye
I'll be exactly where I dread
Longing for a moment or two
To ease the permanent tension
A time to slip into happiness
If only once more
Getting by thought by thought
Till I can walk back out the door
