Fading Memory

A thought passes across my mind
A ghost of an echo
Now over and done
An old chapter is closing
But I want to read it over again
All the nights and the words
From heart to heart flowing
The infinite detail of each and every memory
Fades already from my mind
If I look away some might be gone forever
Some people once known I can't remember their face
They've become ghosts to me now
When before they were as clear as day
Right beside me sharing in each other's experience
Will it be worth it in the end?
If I can't remember all the tiny moments of love and light
Are they stored somewhere?
Locked away in the unconcious
Maybe then I'll get it all back
One last look before the book closes
I'd quite like that
I'll pray for more moments to come
A clearer mind to see them
And a gracious heart to hold them
