joey

"so, the letter. what did it say?" i asked melanie. it was around ten in the morning. we've been sitting here at this coffee shop talking about what's been going on with us lately.

her questions always made me suspicious. it's like she wants to know everything that's going on with me and everyone else. almost like she was spying on us or even using this against us one day.

"you have really nice eyes." she smiled at me. "have they always been filled with light?"

i shot a fake smile at her. "ever since the day i came out of my mom."

she giggled and nods before taking a sip of her coffee. "okay, okay. the letter." she lets out a deep sigh. "honestly joey, it isn't my place to tell what it said. it isn't mauricio's place to tell you either so that's why he probably sent you to me. so i could tell you i guess."

i nod. "and i'm hoping you would because apparently everyone's making a huge deal about this damn letter."

"and you aren't?" she suddenly asked. "that letter contained something so important yet it wasn't important to you so you just decided to burn it and fuck the new girl, right?"

i groaned. "how the hell does everyone know about that?"

"mauricio and i talk." she took another sip of her coffee as she kept her gaze on me.

"that's probably why everything isn't going according to plan." she muttered under her breath.

"what plan?" i ask her.

she looked at me and smiled again. jeez she sure does smile a lot. when we were kids she'd never smile. maybe because her teeth were all fucked up and now she looks like a greek goddess will silver hair and a nice bob cut. she looked like she was from the movies.

"don't worry about it." she says softly. "just know the letter contained my address on it. it was rowans way of saying that no matter what happens, she wants you to move on. it may be tough for you but it's what you deserve, to be happy."

i scoffed. "in case you haven't noticed, i lost my happiness the day she laid in my arms in a puddle of blood."

she furrowed her brows. "oh dear.. that must've been awful for you."

"yeah no shit." i mumbled.

she looked down at her watch and stood up. "id love to chat more joseph, but i got things to do. my husband and i are going to dinner later."

i stood up. "you have a husband?"

she nods. "yes, we're in love." she kissed my cheek and waved her fingers at me before walking out of the coffee shop.

i groan in frustration. everything melanie told me didn't make sense. everything mauricio hasn't been making sense. everything that everyone has been telling me doesn't make sense and it's frustrating me.

i walk out of the coffee shop and get in my car. i sat there in the passenger seat silently while hunter and delia chatted.

everything that mauricio and melanie have been telling me made me even more confused. it was kinda like they were hiding something from me. first mauricio tells me what he's gonna give me is life changing and now melanie tells me that i should just move on and forget about it all, but i can't. it's not that easy.

we arrived at this warehouse where we'll be picking up some shipments. hunter and i walked inside while delia waited in the car.

"you tell her?" i asked him. he shook his head
