phil stared at the man sitting next to him. his starry brown eyes glistening in the sunlight as he spoke with a grin. they were out with two of their friends for lunch, desperately needing the quality time they had been neglecting for staying in and watching movies alone. even so, it felt as if they were the only two in the universe.

his mind drifted back to the ring sitting in his bedside drawer. it was waiting for the day it saw the light and was slipped onto dan's finger, holding a promise that neither of them intended to break. he was starting to become impatient; he had to keep reminding himself that he was waiting for the perfect time where he would remember it forever and not cringe from embarrassment.

"phil?" his boyfriend's voice was soft as he brought phil's attention back to reality, dan's fist falling to lightly punch his thigh with the side of his hand. "i thought we lost you there for a second."

"you did." he felt dazed and still not completely on the ground as he continued to keep his gaze locked on dan's face.
