Saving a miracle

I went to my office and El was standing with a little baby in her arms. 

El - "Hey, how did it go?"

Jen - "Good. Who's baby is that?" 

El - "One of your patients. Madelein I think is her name. She says he's sick."

Jen - "He's very quiet for a sick baby. Give him to me."

El handed me the baby and when I held him in my arms he was having a fever so bad that he was burning my skin. He was so warm. 

Jen - "This baby is very warm. His burning my skin. I need to take him to my office."

I turned around and was heading towards my office. 

El - "Jen just w..."

El tried to stop me but I just ignored her. 

Jen - "I can't talk now."

El - "But Toby...."

I opened the door to my office. And Toby and Carmel were on my desk. Half naked. Her shirt was half taken off and Toby were standing in his pants topless. They were making out and they didn't even hear me come in. I guess that was what El was trying to tell me when I walked away.

Jen - "Ah hem. What are you doing? "

Toby look at me shocked. 

Toby - "Jen... I- sorry..."

He picked up his shirt and Carmel closed hers. 

Carmel - "Sorry Jen. "

Jen - "Can you get out of my office. And Toby you really need your own office. Also tell Madelein I have her baby. "

Toby - "Yes. Sorry."

He and Carmel put on their clothes and storm out of my office. I took care of the baby.

Jen - "There we go. Lets hope this works." 

Jake came in. My door was open so he didn't know I was busy. 

Jake - "Hey beautiful. I... "

I shushed him. 

Jen - "Jake not now. I need to focus here. "

I snapped at him. 

Jake - "Ok. Should I leave?"

Jen - "You can stay but quiet please."

I held the baby close to me to feel if his temperature were dropping. He was very weak. 

Jen - "Come on little one. Don't die on me please. Please. Please wake up little one. "

The baby starts crying after a while.

Jen - "And we're back. I did it."

The baby continues crying. 

Jen - "Hello little one. You scared me for a second."

His mother storms in the office.

Madelein - "Is he ok?"

Jen - "Yes. He's fine. He's going to be fine."

She sigh from relief.

Madelein - "Thank you doctor. Thank you so much. You're a lifesaver. Thank you."

Jen - "You're welcome. "

I gave her the baby. And she kisses his forehead. And looks at me again.

Madelein - "Everyone told me you're the best doctor in this town, and they were right. Thank you."

Jen - "No problem. Take good care of him."

She nods yes and she walks out of my office. 

Jake - "That was amazing. "

Jen - "Yeah it did feel good. "

Jake - "You're really a great doctor."

Jen - "Thanks. Sorry I snapped at you. I was stressing. "

Jake - "You don't have to apologize. I understand. What you just did made me like you even more."

Jen - "Really?" 

Jake - "Yes. So I came here to tell you that I have planned a special date for us for tomorrow night. Dinner and a surprise." 

Jen - "Oh really?"

Jake - "Yes. "

Jen - "Well I can't wait. "

I kissed him.

Jake - "I will let you get back to work. See you later beautiful."

Jen - "See you later."

He kissed me and then he left. 

And then I did my happy dance. I was happy. After 3 years I was finally happy again.
