"I can't believe this." He muttered, leaning back against the brick wall at the back of the school building. "Why the fuck am I forced to go to this school? Like come on, can't my parents see that I'm practically an outcast and that I hate almost everyone here?"

"Aren't we all forced to be here?" I asked, watching him bring the cigarette to his lips and puff out a smoke.

I personally cannot stand the smell of smoke but for his sake, I choose to keep my mouth shut and place a handkerchief over my nose. He glanced at me and chuckled at my actions before throwing his cigarette to the floor and stepping on it. He shook his head before pushing off the wall, moving to stand in front of me.

"The difference between you and I is that you can still blend in with them. I practically stand out like a sore thumb, being the school's supposed bad boy and shit. While you, little miss y/n are too adorable to hate." He said, smirking at me as he pinches my cheeks.

"Oh, that's where you're wrong, Mendes. People hate me. Like almost all of them do but they choose to keep quiet knowing that you're my best friend and that you will kill anyone who hurts me." I said, swatting his hand away. "Besides, I'm far from adorable."

"Whatever you say, little one."

"Fuck you!"

"Oh babe, I bet you would love to."

"SHAWN! God, why am I even friends with you?"

"Shut up, you love me anyways."

I rolled my eyes and pushed myself off the wall. I made my way past him but he grabbed my wrist before I could go any farther from him and pulled me back to his arms. He buried his head into my hair as he hugged me.

"I know I don't say this much but I'm thankful to have you around. Without you, I would probably be lost among people who do not know me as well as you do." He muttered.

"I'm thankful for you too, idiot." I chuckled, playing with his hair before pulling away from the hug.

"By the way, I can't walk you home today. I have detention."

"Is it because you corrected Ms. Harris?"

"It's not my fault she got the formulas wrong and confused everyone!"

"I know but was that really necessary?"

"You got a C on your test because of it! You usually get As and I'm not letting that drop because an old as fuck teacher doesn't know how to teach!"

I just giggled at him. When your best friend is overprotective, they're not only protective over you when someone hurts you or tries to ask you out. Turns out, they can also be protective over things like your grades and your position in a club. This is why I love this guy so much.

"Will you be okay though with going home alone or do you want to wait for me?" He asked.

"I'll just go ahead. Stop by the house if you can just... pass through the window. My parents are still kinda iffy about seeing us together especially after they walked in on you in your boxers just because you accidentally spilled glue on both your pants and shirt when we were doing our project. We all know how wrong it looked." I said, laughing as he turned a deep shade of pink.

"See you later then, midget."

"Adios perra estúpida." (Goodbye, stupid bitch,)

"What?"

"Nothing, pendejo de mierda." (Nothing, fucking asshole.) (I don't really speak Spanish so I'm not 100% sure if this is correct)
