Y/N's POV

A couple of months passed by and I still haven't talked to Shawn after our little misunderstanding. That day, Cormac sat beside me during Defense Against the Dark Arts to apologize on his behalf but I merely assured him that he shouldn't apologize for Shawn. Mendes just had to man up and do it himself. I was expecting him to explain himself at most a week after that but he never did. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Does he not want to be friends with me anymore?

"What do you think?" Y/bff/n asked, running her hands against her silver dress to smoothen any wrinkles.

"You look beautiful." I said, glancing at her through the mirror before turning back to doing my eyeliner.

"When are you going to wear yours?"

"Once I'm done with my makeup."

"I bet Mayer would die seeing you in that dress."

I chuckled and put mascara on my eye lashes. Once I was happy with how my makeup looked, I took the pale yellow gown with gold accents from my bed. Y/bff/n helped me put on the petticoat before helping me into the dress. I then slipped on a pair of gold heels before turning to her and smiling. "I can't believe this is happening."

"Make the most of tonight. Who knows? Maybe the two of you will start dating after this." She said, grabbing her clutch from the side of the table.

"Let's go."

We made our way down the common room and out to the Great Hall where the Yule Ball was held. I spotted the blue eyed man at the bottom of the stairs and I couldn't help but feel nervous. He looked stunning in his black dress robes and and silver tie. My heart started racing as his eyes met mine. So this is it. Here's my one chance of getting to be with him. I slowly walked down the stairs and took his outstretched hand once I was near him.

"You look gorgeous." Nick uttered, tucking some stray hairs behind my ear.

"Thank you. So do you." I said, trying to fight back the blush creeping to my cheeks.

The rest of the night, we spent the night talking and dancing. It felt like things were going really well. Just as we were about to sit down after dancing along with some of my friends, his friends came up and swept him away. He managed to call out "I'll be back" before they disappeared among the crowd. I went over to the table and just as I was sitting down, I felt a hand on my wrist.

"Can we talk?" He asked nervously. He must have seen my hesitance so he cleared his throat and looked over to Nick and the other Slytherins. "It'll be quick, I promise."

I nodded and followed him outside of the Great Hall. He led me to the nearest hallway which he ensured was unoccupied by anyone. Once the coast was clear, he stopped in his tracks and turned to me. Before he could even say anything, I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my head against his chest.

"I missed you." I muttered.

He released a relieved breath and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. "I'm really sorry about what happened between us. I only wanted what was best for you. I didn't mean what I said, I promise."

"I don't care anymore. I just want my best friend back."

"I'm right here, y/n. I'll always be here."

I felt his arms unravel themselves from me before his index finger and thumb met my chin. He lifted my face up to look at him and before I could register what was happening, his lips were on mine. I froze, not knowing what to do until he eventually pulled away.

"I'm sorry if you don't feel the same way but I had to do that at least once before you give your heart to him." He muttered, looking down at the ground, not meeting my eyes.
