After my flight, I looked around for my mother. I couldn't find her so I decided to sit down somewhere with my suitcases and hopefully she would see me waiting. Meanwhile, I took out my phone and saw the many text messages and missed calls from Dre. Text messages like "hey, can we talk?", "I'm sorry about last night", "PLEASE PICK UP!" I went to my contacts so that I could call him but I had second thoughts and decided that it would be easier to just send a text. "I just landed in Los Angeles. I'll call you when I'm ready to talk" I typed. At the same moment that I pushed the "Send" button, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked behind me and saw my mother with a smile as bright as the moon. She was pretty excited to see me.
"Hey sweetie!" she beamed nearly screaming with outstretched arms.
I got up from my seat and hugged her.
"Hey Ma" I replied with a smile.
When she finally let go of me, she took both of my hands and looked at me up and down as if to take in everything.
"Oh my gosh, I've missed you" she finally said.
"I missed you too, Ma" I replied.
She finally took notice to my bags.
"Well c'mon. Let me help you out with these" she said.
She took two of my suitcases as I took the other and we made our way to her car.

When we finally got in the car, she started it up and began to tell me about life in Los Angeles.
"Oh sweetie, you are going to absolutely love L.A.! The schools are great, the neighbors are so nice, and the mall...OH MY GOSH! I know how much you love the mall. You will love this one"
All I did was nod my head as if I was paying attention and plastered on a fake smile here and there. She must have seen right through it.
"What's wrong, Nic? Why aren't you psyched?"
I made a big sigh. Before I could respond, she stated her thoughts first.
"Look Nicole, I know you miss your father. I do too but it could be worse. At least I'm still here and you didn't lose both of us"
That made me feel a lot better about this move. She's right, I could have lost them both and if that happened, I don't know what I would do. Although I still wasn't totally happy, I didn't let her know that. My mom had put too much work into flying me over here and I can't ruin her happiness. Especially since I had spent only about 20 minutes with her already.
"Thanks Mom. And I really am excited but it's just going to take me a while to get over some things and get used to all this, you know?"
"I understand sweetie. Just take your time. I don't want you to put on an act, I want you to actually love it here"
I smiled at her and this time it was a real one. From what Mom was telling me, I can start school next week and she already registered me. I hope I like it there otherwise, I don't think I could be as happy as my mom would like me to be.
