His car comes to a stop at the law office around ten-fifty the next morning. Liam makes his way inside the elaborate building and to the correct floor indicated by the information board in the entry room. He walks in, a young woman in her early 20's greets him and informs Eric who comes out from behind the oak door a few minutes later. Liam's jaw clenches, noticing a picture of Eric and Sloane on the desk.

          "Morning," Eric greets.

"Morning," Liam nods, walking in and sitting down.

"So, you want full custody of the little girl? You weren't around during her pregnancy, and the mother wants nothing to do with you."

"Whoa, I was trying to be there. Natasha wouldn't let me. I came to all her appointments even though I never actually went into them. One appointment she was two hours late, and she looked like she was on something. She was high off her ass."

Eric nods, writing everything down. "Why do you want custody?"

"Because when I found out I was going to be a dad, I just had a whole new outlook on my life. I've always wanted a family even after the shit that happened with my ex. I'm a hard worker. I have a very stable home, a safe one. The little girl deserves to be with at least one of her parents if not both."

"Are you single? Married? Seeing someone?"

          Liam smirks. "Single."

"Women in and out of your home?" Eric asks without looking up.

          "No."

"Stable job? Stable income? Safe home? Family around?" Eric fires in quick succession.

"I'm a contractor. I have health insurance, dental insurance. Pretty good income and yeah the only family I have is my sister and her two kids."

"And why shouldn't the mother have her?"

"She's unfit. I guarantee you, if you drug test her she will fail."

          "What if she doesn't?"

"I guess how I see it is, if she's putting the baby up for adoption she doesn't want her. I do."

"Most mothers change their mind before signing the papers."

"Eric help me out here man."

"I'm just saying. You have a great chance of keeping her if she signs the papers. But, if she doesn't, and she doesn't fail a test, it's going to be hard."

          Liam sighs.

"This isn't going to be easy," Eric warns. "These things can take months."

"Am I allowed to see the little girl while this is going on?"

"That depends on if someone wants to adopt her. If the mother decides to keep, a lot of things can happen."

"Well, that will be a no. If Natasha decides to keep her."

"Do you want to proceed?" Eric asks.

          "Yeah, sorry."

"Well, I can get back to you as soon as I get all this in order. I'm getting married next week so it might not be until after that."

          "Oh, you are? That was...quick."

           Eric looks at him oddly.

          "Well, congrats."

"Thanks. I'll get back to you as soon as I can."
