He never planned to become a father anytime soon. Of course he wanted to become a father some day but not in this circumstances, not being a hunter and having to raise a kid at the same time. Even though he has a son to take care of he still decided to stay in the hunting life. Especially not leaving his older brother with so many deadly creatures walking the earth. Fortunately Sam has Bobby who is willing to help him with his son. Sam thought he had everything under control until one day Bobby called Sam to pick up Toby. Sam did not understand why Bobby wanted him to pick up his son. He would never call him unless it was an emergency but Bobby did not show any signs of danger just pure anger. Sam convinced his brother to leave the case to go check on his son.

"What has gotten into you, you child?!" Bobby shouts at Toby as he throws his food on the floor
"I want my dad!" Toby frowns looking back at Bobby
"Your dad is at work, he won't come soon" Bobby gets up grabbing a rag from the counter
"But I want my dad now!" Toby demands crossing his arms on his chest
"I am telling you kid he ain't going to come" Bobby picks up the food from the floor
"Then I won't go to school tomorrow" Toby gets out of his chair
"Toby you are going to school no matter what and stop acting up" Bobby gives him a firm look
"I just want my dad" Toby begins to sob into his long sleeves
Bobby let out a sigh realizing the kid needed his dad the most "Alright kid why don't you go to sleep and I'll bake you some cookies for the morning"
"Would you really bake cookies for me?" Toby slowly looks up from his sleeves
"Of course, I know you like them cookies" Bobby picks him up holding him close
"Thank you uncle bobby" Toby lays his head on his shoulder trying to get some warmth from his uncle
Once Toby fell a sleep Bobby decides to call Sam hoping to convince him to return home to see his kid. The only way he would be able to convince him was to pretend he was mad or there was some type of danger. Either way, the kid needed to see his dad. It has been three weeks since Toby last saw his dad and he was beginning to have a break down. Bobby couldn't help but see the boy crying himself to sleep, questioning why every kid in his school had a dad and a mom, having to attend his parent teacher conference instead of his dad. Seeing him become lonesome with no one to play at the park and no one to tuck him in at night and give him that parent love. Of course Bobby tried to comfort the kid and be the best uncle in the world. But it was obvious he was not the dad and for Toby it was not the same. Even if Sam was around, he never gave Toby the attention he needed. Always pushed him away when the kid wanted to play with him. Never giving him the love he needed and deserved.
By the time Sam and Dean arrived to the house it was morning. They found Bobby getting Toby ready for school. When Toby saw his dad he ran to hug his enormous long legs but did not receive a warm welcoming back from his dad. Just a small pat on the head and immediately went to question Bobby why he called him. Before Bobby was willing to answer he sent the kid to the school. Bobby was determined to change Sam's mind about parenthood

"Why did you call me? Every thing seems to be good" Sam questions Bobby once he returns
"Look, you need to be here more often" Sam begins to run his fingers through his hair "I know you have this whole hunting life but that kid needs you"
"Don't start Bobby, I know what I am doing" Sam gives him a look
"No you are not, that kid is having break downs, he can probably be depressed already" Bobby begins to raise his voice
"Toby looks perfectly fine, he is happy here and is better off being with you" Sam begins to raise his voice as well
"Look Sammy I think Bobby is right, you need to spend time with your son" Dean gives Sam a soft look
"Stay out of this Dean, this is none of your business" Sam glares at his brother while raising his voice in frustration
"You do realize you are raising him just like dad did" Dean responds calmly
"That's not true" Sam lowers his voice choking on his own words
"How did you feel when your dad didn't come for weeks, Sam?" Bobby looks at Sam
Sam didn't answer just keep looking at the floor as his anger started to vanish with sorrow. Not for himself but for his son. His son was going through the same he was going through when his dad never showed up for weeks. the only person who was with him was his older brother but not even Toby had that. He didn't have an older brother to take care of him like Dean did with him. Sure he had Bobby but that feeling was just temporally not permanent.
"I am surprised the kid has not even attempted to burn down the house" Bobby lets out a sigh interrupting Sam's thoughts
"I guess you guys are right" Sam says in a low voice
"You know what would make him happy" Sam looks up from the floor to look at Bobby
"What would that be?" Sam looks at him confused
"Today there is a teacher, parent meeting but Toby didn't want to go because you weren't here" Bobby replies
"Alright then I'll go" Sam replied
