“An unknown number?” Chiamaka asked herself as she sat up to pick.

As soon as she picked the call, it was a man's voice she held, “Good day, are my up to Miss Chiamaka...”

Chiamaka interrupted and was curious to know, “Yes, how may I help you and how did you get my phone line?” She began to wonder who called.

“I am sorry, but I am the new lawyer in case of your case!” And Chiamaka felt her heart, breaking, “Mr. Woke had alot of clients and some have paid him before you, so transferred the work to me. I work under his instructions! My name is Timothy.” He said through the phone.

“How many years experience do you have?” Chiamaka forced herself to ask.

“Ma, this... This is my first time!” He confessed and Chiamaka almost fainted.

“What!” She yelled out.

“But... But Ma, I am good!” Timothy tried to calm her down.

“Ah, you are good but you keep stammering?” Chiamaka was not pleased and felt disappointed.

“Ma, I can assure you I can handle the case. Mr. Woke will be helping out as well.” Timothy said and immediately, Chiamaka lost hope of winning the case. The trail was yet to begin and her lawyer sold her out, already.

“How old are you?” Chiamaka asked.

“Huh, I am sorry but why do you ask?” Timothy questioned and from the sound of his voice, she knew he was a young lawyer.

“I asked a question!” Chiamaka stated.

“Ahem!” He cleared his throat, “I am twenty five years, ma!”

“Okay!” Chiamaka answered still disappointed.

It was obvious she was the loser. Mr. Woke had kept a good record of winning cases but not cases without a strong evidence. He does not want to tarnish his reputation, all in her favor. Chiamaka began to wonder if Patricia has been informed too.

“Ma, the court has accepted the case! I will try my best to win this.” Timothy tried to cheer his first client.

“Okay!” Chiamaka still spoke in total disappointment.

She hanged up the call and laid flat on the bed facing the ceiling. Tears began to roll down her eyes. As soon as another set of tears wanted to roll down, she felt an ache in her tommy and remembered she had a child forming in her womb. And then, she remembered Davis and wondered if he had gone back to live his normal life. She remembered how she intentionally left her phone in the car at the hospital and walked away. There was no way he would reach her or track her.

She still missed him and wished they had just continued and Flora had not mentioned what he said that day at the garden. She missed how he would cuddle her and kiss her forehead. Was she ever going to forgive him? But then, she had his child growing inside her.

She sighed and stood up from the bed, “I should pay the girls a visit!” Chiamaka mumbled as she took her phone to check the time.

Patricia went to her late husband's office to do somethings and Chiamaka was all alone, she had to go out.

Chiamaka took a cab and went to visit. She did not have the strength to drive. But when she reached, the gate was locked outside and it was unusual, she wanted to surprise the girls. Morning was their resting time and night the job begins but, it seemed no one was home.

Chiamaka called out to a by-passer, “Please, do not be offended, do you know why the gate is locked?” she asked and suddenly the by passer looked uncomfortable.

“The girls were attacked by killers, not sure all of them made it. The police called then locked the place and rushed the bleeding girls to the hospital for treatment.” The man said and continued to move away.

Chiamaka felt her leg could not carry her again. No wonder she had not heard from the girls and again, she remembered her phone she left behind. What was going on? Why was there too much problems?
