Astrid stared at the parchment in her hand—the only letter her parents had sent to her in months—not even a response to the many letters she had sent in moments of weakness and desperation.

She tried hard to convince herself they cared for her and so deeply at that—but she was starting to think herself ridiculous for even suggesting such an absurd idea.

They didn't care about her—oh no—they cared about themselves and only them.

She scrunched the parchment in her hand—letting her anger out by crumpling their words in her fist.

She returned to the Gryffindor common room—thinking of nothing but the letter in her fist—squeezing hard until she walked in—releasing her grip as she looked at the faces that greeted her.

"Is everything okay?" Hermione sat up nervously—patting the empty space on the sofa next to her for Astrid to sit

Astrid raised her eyebrows—nodding her head as she sat down—her hands in her lap—feeling awkward and tense now.

"Erm" she looked to her hands—the letter in it "yeah, it's all good, just needed to mention something before we go back for the holidays in a few weeks time"

"Ah" Ron leaned back "you had us worried and all"

"Nothing of the sorts" she smiled—pulling open the letter in her hand and staring at her mothers words

Time to tell them all,
Good luck

"So" she sighed—trying to get her timeline straight "when I left Hogwarts suddenly, it wasn't to get my blood tested, or whatever stupid excuse I used"

"Thought so" Hermione crossed her arms—glancing at Harry and Ron

Astrid dug her nails in her palm—keeping her gaze strictly on her lap—not Ginny who sat by her feet or George and Fred who were across from her "um, it's kind of strange" she laughed

"Come onnn" Hermione nudged Astrid—grinning slightly "tell us"

Astrid laughed "It's crazy—my—my aunt actually kind of shot herself in the—uh—head"

"What" Hermione's smile dropped—everyone speechless—no longer smiling

Ron rubbed his chin—staring at his feet

"She got a hold of a muggle gun, is that what they call them? I think so. Well she did and when Amos was out getting them breakfast she kind of, you know, it was Cedric's birthday so I guess it took a toll" Astrid shrugged "we went to see her at St Mungos"

They all silently sat—some even avoiding to look at her "it's not that big a deal, mum thought I should still tell you incase things are tense when we come back" she stood up, pocketing her mothers letter and passing Hermione one she wrote herself "incase I did a shit job at explaining, anyways, I'm off to prefect duties, see you lot later" she patted Harry's shoulder and left the common room—pulling her prefect badge out of her bag—pinning it to her chest as she left them with their thoughts
