TW: minor violence (scratching, biting), blood
Author's Note: oh hey I'm alive!

Ruby gasped as the vampire's nails raked across the side of her neck. Blood splattered from the wound but luckily it wasn't deep enough to cause any major harm. As she stumbled backwards and grabbed her neck, she saw the vampire mockingly lick her blood from his fingers.

But to her own pleasure, her two companions were coming right up on her attacker. Austin was quick to land a blow to the side of his head that knocked him straight to the ground and Lance finished him off by clearing his head from his body with a recently cleaned machete.

"Was that the last one?" Lance asked.

"As far as I know," Ruby grunted.

"Woah." Austin glanced at her bleeding neck. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. The last guy just nicked me."

Austin glanced at Lance who was fixed quite intently on Ruby's bleeding wound. His pupils were dilated and his fangs were exposed as he panted.

Lance was a vampire too, but he was on their side. A rare sight in this little apocalypse of theirs.

"Are you uh…" Austin took a step closer to Ruby, "okay there, Lance?"

    He didn't say anything.

"Hey, Lance, buddy, can you snap back into it for me?" Ruby asked softly, snapping twice in front of his face.

"I'm sorry," Lance shook out his head, "I'm sorry…I'm so sorry." he repeated.

"It happens." Ruby smiled gently. "Do you mind driving alone since I can't because I'm losing blood and we can't drive together because I'm losing blood?" She laughed.

    "Yeah," Lance nodded, "Of course."

"That guy creeps me out," Austin murmured.

    "Who?" Ruby asked.

    "The vamp."

    "Lance?"

    "Yeah."

    "Why?"

"Did you see him in there drooling over your wound?" Austin challenged.

    "I was bleeding," Ruby argued.

"Exactly! That's what he was drooling over." Austin pressed.

Ruby shrugged. "Well, he is a vampire."

"A vampire that was about to eat you," Austin huffed.

"Come on now. That's a little bit of a stretch. Lance was under control." Ruby protested, "Besides, if your friends bled hamburgers after you worked up an appetite, you might have a little trouble looking away yourself."

    "He still creeps me out."

"Hey Lance, wait up!" Ruby called.

When he saw who had called him, he slowed his pace but dipped his head down.

"Oh uh…hey Ruby," Lance murmured as she approached.

"Don't worry. You can look up. I got a big ol' bandage over my wound." Ruby beamed.

That wasn't why he was looking at the ground, but to avoid any conflict, he looked up anyway and smiled sheepishly.
