SERENITY

The force of the waves taking my entire being into it's clutch, the arms of my lover preventing me from being carried away by the water. I was standing in the water, the surface reaching up to my hips, just barely touching my enlarged belly.

Kaden was standing behind me, his arms long enough to be wrapped around my front. His hands covering my lower belly, protecting us from whatever source that would dare to harm it, to harm us.

His face hidden in my neck, allowing his lips to grace over his mark forever implanted on my neck— "Wait for me"

I allowed my eyes to close, letting the darkness erase the view of the troubling waters.

"I have-" I whispered, afraid my voice would betray me, "I have been for so long now"

"And you will continue for however long it will take" his rough voice mumbled into my neck

I let out a silent cry of pain, grabbing ahold of his hands as they rested upon my heavily pregnant stomach.

"I can't" I let out

"You can, and you will"

My eyes reopened, but the sight of the ocean was no longer before me. In it's place, was the tantalizingly familiar sight of the cobble stoned ceiling above me. I was reluctant to do so, but my hand still reached down to my stomach. I began rubbing it, wishing to go back to the dream where my belly wasn't empty.

Noises came from down the hall, yet I didn't pay any mind to it thinking it was just another prisoner. I rolled onto my side, slightly wincing at the pain hitting me once my ribs came in contact with the floor. My surroundings were nothing but dirt and dust, and a sorrowful wooden bucket in the corner across from me.

In their eyes I was deserving of nothing more than what could be found in my cell. Perhaps they were right, considering I couldn't even protect my own child from the world it hadn't gotten the chance to be a part of yet.

Another noise emerged from something I could only detect as much further away from where I was laying. This sound was louder in the sense that there was something a lot more disturbing going on upstairs.

It was a scream.

Rustling could be heard from a cell not far from mine. A curious prisoner wondering the exact same question as me.

What the hell is going on up there...

No matter how curious I was, I wouldn't ever find enough strength within me to even drag myself over to the bars. I stayed put, rubbing my aching stomach, and closed my eyes in a desperate attempt to free myself for just a moment, even if none of it was real.

But I wasn't allowed to stay inside my world of imagination for long, not when heavy footsteps hurried down the hall, coming closer to my cell for each step. My heart caught speed, and my veins flooded with adrenaline from my striking fear. The adrenaline numbed my pain and brought me enough energy to pull myself off the stone cold ground.
