I hadn't been there 5 minutes and the daycare was already a complete mess.  While I puzzled where to even start, sun had already began to methodically clean up, careful to put everything back where it had come from. I had decided to work on the other side of the room, giving myself the space and time to fully process everything. A couple hours passed, and I had finally gotten a rhythm down for cleaning. He's a little odd, but he seems to have good intentions. I mused to myself. I wonder if he-
My train of thought was cut short as I noticed Sun watching me out of the corner of my eye. He was still picking up, but his eyes were trained on me. The fuck!? I felt a twinge of panic. Am I doing something wrong? Oh god, maybe he's malfunctioning and I'm his target! I swallowed hard, looking away and pushing aside the thought of signing that damn waiver. I felt a hand on my shoulder and froze.
"Hey there, Y/N! Super spectacular job on the cleaning! I think you deserve this-" he whirled me around to face him and held out a small sticker.
"Oh! Uh, thanks!" I smiled wearily as I took the item.
"You know, I hate to see a friend all alone," he rocked on his heels in a timid fashion "can I keep you company?" He smiled sheepishly, I wondered if he was embarrassed to ask.
"What about the kids?" I gestured to the general chaos of the daycare. He didn't answer at first, his eyes scanning the room. After a couple moments, he stood tall with a beaming smile; he had an idea. I hadn't realized how tall he was since he had a habit of crouching to keep eye level, but he was every bit of 9 feet.
"Ooh! Ooh! I know just the thing!" He giggled excitedly as he bounded over to the children. "Boys and girls, boys and girls! Would you like to watch a movie?" He had hardly finished his sentence as a roar of approval exploded from the 3-foot crowd. Sun laughed as he grabbed a movie tape. "How could I say no to that? You've all been so wonderful today, too!"
For the first time today, the daycare was calm. I chuckled to myself as Sun proudly made his way back over.
"Wow, you managed to tame those wild animals." He giggled at my remark.
"You're too funny, sunbeam." He sat down on the floor next to me. "I hope you had a good first day!" I paused for a moment. In all honesty, today went a lot better than I imagined.
"I did, actually! But I am quite excited to go home and sleep after this."
Sun's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"
I looked up at him, not sure how I could make it any more clear. "My shift ends at midnight?"
Sun began to laugh, shaking his head. "No, no, silly! You work here full time!"
I paused for a moment. "...Yeah? That means I work 40 hours a week."
He shook his head again. "It doesn't work like that in the pizzaplex, my friend! Haven't you seen your room here?"
