Dancing with Charles

I walked back into the hall, feeling surprisingly relieved. This conversation had to happen sometime ago, and now that it had happened it felt really good.

A smile grew on my face as I walked into the hall, and Charles and Arthur flocked me like bodyguards.

"How'd the 'talk' go?"

"Good. Did I miss anything?"

"Nope!" This time is was Charles who spoke. "Except, we-the dance is starting soon."

I groaned.

"Come on, I'm not that bad a dancer!" Charles protested.

"I'm sure you aren't. I however, can't dance to save my soul."

"Well, it's a good thing your soul isn't on the line, then is it?"

Charles smirked at me.

Damn, you're good looking!

"I know that."

"Did I say that loud?

Charles nodded.

My whole body turned as red as my dress. Leave it to me to embarrass myself in front of Charles.

Suddenly there was some mic-related feedback and I turned away from Charles to check it out.

It was Mattia, and behind him an orchestra was assembling.

Which could only mean one thing.

"Now, ladies and gentlemen, I think enough time has passed, we really must open the dance floor. We also have a special guest with us tonight, and he has agreed to perform one song for us. Now, of course with a musician of his caliber I'm sure anything would sound great, but personally, I think it's Time to Say Goodbye."

Something zinged in my head. Time to say goodbye?

Oh my god.

The special guest was Andrea Bocelli.

"Please, welcome to the floor, Charles and Kim, everybody!"

For the third time that night, applause rang around me and Charles grabbed my hand, leading me towards the dance floor.

"Hey! Look at me!" He said when we had taken our positions on the floor. "Relax. I'm here, nothing's going to go wrong."

He grinned at me, and I couldn't help but return the smile.

"You're a precious cupcake, you know that?"

"I know, now."

I smiled.

Then, the orchestra began to play.

Quando sono sola
Sogno all'orizzonte
E mancan le parole
Sì lo so che non c'è luce
In una stanza quando manca il sole
Se non ci sei tu con me, con me
Su le finestre
Mostra a tutti il mio cuore
Che hai accesso
Chiudi dentro me
La luce che
Hai incontrato per strada

Charles held me and gently spun me. He was a very good dancer.

I, on the other hand, sucked. I barely kept up with him. And I'm sure I looked like a hockey puck on ice.

Time to say goodbye
Paesi che non ho mai
Veduto e vissuto con te
Adesso sì li vivrò
Con te partirò
Su navi per mari
Che, io lo so
No, no, non esistono più
It's time to say goodbye

The chorus continued and I stopped looking around, focusing only on the beautiful creature in front me.

Charles caught my eye and smiled at me.

"I never got to tell you how good you look tonight, Charles. Honestly, you look so handsome."

"And I never got to tell you how beautiful you look. So far tonight, you've been the only thing I can see."

Quando sei lontana
Sogno all'orizzonte
E mancan le parole
E io sì lo so
Che sei con me, con me
Tu, mia luna, tu sei qui con me
Mio sole, tu sei qui con me
Con me, con me, con me

I frowned, common sense hitting me in the head.

"Wait, isn't your girlfriend here?"

Charles shook his head.

"I don't have one."

He looked pleased with himself, and I realised how hard it must have been for him.

Time to say goodbye
Paesi che non ho mai
Veduto e vissuto con te
Adesso sì li vivrò
Con te partirò
Su navi per mari
Che, io lo so
No, no, non esistono più

The second to last chorus played, and I realised I had grown accustomed to the music. I was now moving and swaying without realising it.

Con te io li rivivrò
Con te partirò
Su navi per mari
Che, io lo so
No, no, non esistono più
Con te io li rivivrò
Con te partirò

Io con te

Mr. Bocelli held the note and Charles spun me.

Then, the music ended and we stepped away from each other.

Charles gently took my hand and kissed it.

"You are an amazing dancer."

"You're better."

Everyone around us clapped and cheered.

Maybe, I wasn't as bad as I thought I was.
