What a lonely life it had become for Astrid—abandoned by both sets of friends and now she was made to feel like a baby for sticking to her elder cousins side—pestering him and his friends, both too cool for her to be around.

"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Cedric had asked her every few seconds—from breakfast to the Hufflepuff common room and now down to the doors the large crowd of students ran though to get to the village

"No you two go on" Astrid forced down the sigh that would inevitably leave her lips as she stared through the open doors—out to the sun that illuminated all in a golden light, so beautifully inviting

But she had to reject the invite, Cedric so rarely spent time without her and it wasn't fair to him

She waved them off and placed what Harry had told her were 'headphones' in the muggle world into her own ears—working the small device her father had magicked for her to use in school when she wished to listen to music

She thought of her father as the music he listened too when he was her age and in Hogwarts drifted into her ears—sometimes listening to his old music made her feel closer too him, like it was the only way for her to know him.

When he had disappeared after the Potters death, it was the only way Elio could speak to him. Putting on an old record into the phonograph was the only way he'd come out of his room.

Hearing the music he had shared with his friends

Since the revealing of Black—she felt distant from him again. He was still at Hogwarts, yet so far from her.

She had seen a glimpse of him at breakfast—a smile on his face and his hair for the first time ever was neatly gelled in place too, satisfying McGonagall greatly who gently pinched his cheek in greeting.

Sometimes she wondered if he ever wanted to be a father—if Elio was an accident they couldn't get rid of, if her parents felt obliged to create a family after him.
