chapter 38 - peace

"Oh my God, Marigold!" he rushes forward to her and hugs her tightly, spinning her around as he lets out a true, genuine happy laugh as he teared up. She squealed as she laughed as well, trying to get him to put her down as he continued to hug her, "My sweet princess, you're alive!"

"I'm alive," she giggled softly, wiping her tears once she finally got put down. Midas knelt down so he was more towards her level - even though somehow she and Y/n were close to the same height, and he smiled tearily, "My God, look at you... you're huge! Where's that tiny pigtailed cute little girl go, huh? She's now a big, stunning grown woman..." Midas felt himself tear up again, letting out a shaky breath, "and I missed it."

"You didn't miss anything, Dad," she replied softly. I just remembered becoming gold and then right after, somehow I came out older and looking like this. It had to be a miracle," Marigold explained. "And look! I have it, too!" she picked up a random pebble and turned it to solid gold, and Midas never looked more proud. "I can't believe my baby girl is so big and strong now. I never thought I'd see either of you again."

"Well, your daughter avenged you better than I did. She killed Omega and Oblivion," Y/n replied, walking over and resting her hand on his shoulder. Midas stood up, wiping his tears as Y/n explained. "With them gone, Shadow has nobody left."

"Does that mean... Ghost won...?" Midas eyes widened in delight. Y/n nodded, entwining her fingers with his, "Yeah, baby... we finally won the war."

"And you thought you couldn't handle being in charge," Midas smirked, pulling his girlfriend in for another quick, deep kiss as Marigold rolled her eyes and looked away. Y/n quickly hit his chest, glaring, "I couldn't! Meowscles had to help me more than I helped him. And, speaking of that..."

Y/n swung her hand fast and hard against his cheek, making him stagger back in absolute shock, "What the fuck!" he gawked at her, his eyes widened.

"How fucking dare you get shot in front of me and die, then disappear for 5 whole months and suddenly come back in some robot mech suit! Do you even know the kind of trauma you put me and your agents threw?!" Y/n said, her heart racing. She was overwhelmed with too many emotions.

Midas chuckled and shook his head, "I'm sorry. I really did die, I think. But when I did, I saw Oro. Oro explained that you and I are connected through a kind of horcrux that can only be broken if he dies," Midas begins to explain, taking her hand. "We, until Oro dies, are immortal. He brought me back to life. And, I guess since Marigold has the golden touch too... She's apart of the horcrux as well."

Mari's eyes widened, "I'm immortal?"

"I guess so, my love," Midas frowned. "Now... When he brought me back, the son of a bitch dropped me on an island. I had to wrangle sharks in order to get back to you."

"Ahh," Y/n giggled, "That explains the bite marks and ripped clothes. Got it."

"Don't rub it in, I look and feel ridiculous," Midas eyed her darkly, "As soon as we're done here, I'm getting a change of clothes."

"I'm just teasing, baby. You need your rest, you look exhausted," she poured, kissing him softly. He hummed and nodded, letting her kay her head against his chest as she leaned against him, "I just need a nice long shower. And a haircut, and a new suit."

"No! Keep the hair! It's... really sexy long and messy like that," Y/n blushed. Midas looked up at his longer-than-usual flopped over hair and shrugged, "If you say so. Now, ahm..." Midas looked around the Agency, "I assume you want me to take over again?"

"Yes. God, please do, I can't take it anymore!" Y/n's groaned, "I don't know how you deal with this! I could barely do it without a daily breakdown!"

"I'm sure you did wonderful, doll," Midas chuckled, rubbing her back.

"Bossman?!" Skye squealed, rushing forward and attacking him in a huge hug. Quickly, Brutus, Meowscles, TnTina, Maya, and Peely all came rushing to surround Midas as Skye jumped on him.

He laughed loudly as he hugged her back, "Skye! You're quite the ball of energy still!"

"I missed you so much!" she sobbed heavily into his chest. Midas began to tear up again, looking around at all of his friends and family. He truly was loved by so many people - as evident from current events.

He kissed Skye's hair as he helped her regain her strength, "I missed you all so much. I was only gone for a few weeks but as I understand it was many months, and I'm sorry. I promise I will explain it all, I just... need to readjust, this is a lot for me," Midas explained. The Agents all understood  and let Y/n take him up to his room to relax.

The many months quickly flew by as Midas readjusted back to life as the Boss of Ghost. There was a lot to catch up on. Due to Midas' absence, there was a huge flood that wrecked through the island. Poor Y/n and Meowscles had to deal with that shitshow, and Midas was thankful he hadn't had to.

With Shadow fully gone, Ghost was now the sole faction and served as the Island's protector. The Island finally had it's peace.

Soon, Y/n and Midas adjusted back into their normal life. When they weren't at the Agency, they spent time at the Cabin which Midas had remodeled to be their dream home. And for once in his life, Midas was content and happy and thankful for the life he had been given.

He had a wonderful newly-wed wife, his daughter, his Agency, and his family - his Agents. Life as finally how Midas had always wanted it to be. And, to his delight, his life just got all that more exciting when Y/n hid a positive pregnancy test onto his desk when he wasn't looking.

Midas was finally content and happy. He had the life he had always wanted - and it was perfect.

The island was safe, his family and loved ones were safe, and he could finally wake up in the morning thankful and excited for the life he was blessed to live.
