Colby's POV

"Woooahhh.." Juniper hummed as we walked around the hotel room I had gotten us.

Calling it a hotel room was a bit of a stretch considering it was a huge presidential suite.

I knew that was probably a little bit overkill but these kids have been through so much in the last couple months that it only seemed fair to treat them.

"Go ahead and pick a room." I said then gestured for them to go explore.

"Any room?" Little Sam asked as I nodded. "Any one you want." I said with a nod as they all dispersed.

"You being a dad is so insane." Nate said as I chuckled. "Not a dad yet." I hummed then put our bags down. "You're already a dad. And your daughter is lucky to have you." Sam said as I nodded.

"Yeah." I said then walked over to the window. I could feel myself starting to shut down, knowing the amount of stress that was surrounding me.

I was guilty, knowing that I could have stopped this from happening.

If I wasn't so stupid, Julia would be okay. She would be here with me and we would be able to start our new life together.

"Don't shut down, man." Sam said as I shook my head. "I'm gonna go find a room. Feel free to do the same." I said then went to go down the hallway.

I made my way down the hallway, looking into the various rooms. Jenna took the first one on the left, little Sam took the room next to hers, Carter was across from Sam, and Juniper was next to Carter.

I decided to go into the room next to Juniper in case she needed me. She seemed to be doing alright in this moment but I knew it wouldn't last.

Being dragged around and pulled places was hard on anyone but I couldn't imagine being a five year old girl with no idea what was happening.

When I walked into the room I sighed and sat on the bed, scrubbed my face with my hands. I was exhausted after everything but I knew no part of me would want to sleep.

I was worried about Julia. I wanted her to be here with us and wake up but I knew that fight took a lot out of her.

I just couldn't wait to tell her how proud of her I was.

Knowing she was now at the top, after everything we've been through was insane. When I first met her she was terrified of shootouts and guns.

She didn't know how to fight of his to defend herself but here she was.

On top of the crime world.

"Colby?" Carter asked as he poked his head into the room. "What's up?" I asked and looked up at him.

"Can I come in?" He asked as I nodded. He took a step into the room, then closed the door behind him.

"Can you tell me more about what happened?" He asked as I pursed my lips. "What do you wanna know?" I asked after a second of contemplation.

"Who slit my sisters throat?" He asked as I sighed, patting the bed next to me.

"I'm not sure who exactly did it since I wasn't there but there were people who wanted Julia dead." I said as Carter nodded slowly.

"My mom was there wasn't she?" He asked causing my heart to jolt slightly.

"How'd you know?" I asked as he breathed a laugh. "Jenna and I talked about it. I think you think you're slick but we've known you long enough to read you." He said as I nodded.

"Smart kids." I hummed. "Yeah, she was involved. She's part of the reason I was tricked." I said as he sighed.

"Is she gonna take us away again? I don't want to go with her." Carter said, causing my heart to sink.
