Colby's POV

"Want me to talk to her?" I asked Julia as we walked down the hallway and towards my office.

"Could you?" She asked as I opened the door. "Of course. I'm gonna leave you in here for a minute so you can have some peace and quiet." I said as she sat in her wheelchair.

"Thank you." She said as I sighed and leaned down to kiss her. I felt bad that the kids and her were struggling with solitary, not that I could blame them.

Every time I would come back from working, the kids would be so excited.

I didn't know if it was to really see me personally or if they were excited to see someone who wasn't eachother.

Once I got to the room they were in, they all looked up at me.

"Are we in trouble?" Jenna asked as I shook my head.

"No, but you guys have to stop fighting so much." I said then looked at Juniper.

"Come on, kid." I said as she scrunched her brow as I held my hand out.

"Am I in trouble?" She asked as I shook my head. "Nope. We're just gonna go on a walk." I said as she came up and took my hand.

"Okay." She said quietly as I led her out of the room. "How are you doing?" I asked, looking down at her.

"I dunno." She mumbled, looking around her. I knew it had to be overwhelming to be in a new settling like this as a five year old.

Julia was right that she was taking this the hardest. She was usually more bubbly and happy, but now she was muted and unable to show real happiness.

I missed her.

"I know it's been tough." I said with a sigh, squeezing her hand. "I wanna go outside." She said with a frown.

"Yeah, I wish I could let that happen." I said quietly. "When can we go home?" Juniper mumbled.

"Not for a while, kid." I said as she squeezed my hand, causing me to look down at her.

"Is that a bad guy?" She asked, stepping closer to me. When I looked up there was someone from the gang standing there, watching us.

It wasn't like he was being threatening or anything but he also seemed to be up to something.

I glared at him, pushing Juniper back slightly so I could cover her with my body.

The guy watched us for another second while I glared at him before he reached for something in his pocket.

Before I could even think about it I was pulling my gun out and pointing it at him. I heard Juniper whimper slightly behind me which broke my heart.

I wanted to turn around and comfort her but I didn't like the vibe of this guy and wasn't going to show weakness around him.

"Sorry, man." The guy said then held his hands up and disappeared down the hallway.

"Come on." I said gently and put the gun away, taking Juniper's hand and leading her to the room Julia was in.

"Was that a bad guy?" Juniper said with a thick voice as I led her down the hallway. "I don't know, but I want you to understand that I will always keep you safe. Got it?" I asked as she nodded.

"Good." I said then opened my office door, causing Julia to look up. "What's wrong?" She asked with concern as Juniper ran to hug her.

"There was a scary man." Juniper said as Julia looked up at me with concern. "They found us?" She asked with so much fear my heart cracked.
