Trees were nice. You hadn't realised just how calming the green could be. You took a swig of water before putting it back into the pack attached to the poor horse who'd been walking for too long.

You leaned forward, took your feet out of the stirrups and swung your legs off, hitting the ground. You were halfway to the lake and it was beginning to be dawn. You were tired and you were sure your horse was.

You pat her. "Thanks, buddy," you said, taking the reigns and tying it to the tree to keep her steady. You pulled out what little food you'd been given in the pack and turned to look at the field that you'd stopped at. You pat her once more before walking a couple metres away to sit in a dry patch. You sat down as you took your first bite of an apple. An arrow landed centimetres past your toes and immediately you dropped the apple, scrambling back. You hit another arrow with your back. Your turned and pulled it out of the ground. Anther strip of paper was attached. You unravelled it and read it.

Hi.

You couldn't resist rolling your eyes. Fear or no fear, he wasn't killing your for a reason.

Another arrow lodged into the ground in front of you and you scurried back until you hit something again. Or someone.

You scrambled to turn around. He looked familiar. The man with the arrows from before. You were frozen.

He frowned. "I'm not going to hurt you."

Then spite filled you, removing your usual brain filter. "Well you already did."

He was taken back for a second before he looked at your horse. "Nice horse."

You grit your teeth. "I think I have to return it."

"Do you?" What was he playing at?

"And you need to return the last chapter of the book."

He shrugged. "I would if I could, but I don't have it." He untied the horse and hit her rear, making her gallop off. He turned back to you. "And now you're miles from where you came from, without a horse, without more lunch and without more water. What are you going to do?" Dick.

You stood up, frowning. You should've listened about this more. "I'm going to find the nearest stream."

He smirked. "Wrong. You're coming with me."

*****

You needed the book, so you followed him. Apparently he'd already known hat you would and so he'd brought two horses of his own.

He helped you up then got up effortlessly. You were ensured of no escape when you found the horses were connected by a piece of rope.

It was a long ride to wherever it was he was taking you. You sighed. If you didn't get that chapter, you were dead. If he decided to get mad, you were dead. How could this not end badly for you?
