The class met with Aizawa at the school training grounds. Aizawa mentioned a Quirk Assessment Test, most of the class were confused.
"What? A quirk assessment test? But we're gonna miss the orientation." Pointed out the cheery brunette girl.
"If you really wanna make it to the big league, you can't waste time with ceremonies." Said Aizawa in a serious tone.
He continued explaining how at U.A things were different, he had more room to freely teach his class however he saw fit.
"You've been taking standardized tests, but never got to use your quirks in physical exams before."
Aizawa explained how the class would be taking 8 physical tests, and they could use their quirks to get the best results. He called Bakugo for a demonstration of softball throw.
Bakugo used his explosive quirk to throw the ball, shouting "DIE!" aggressively as he threw it. The ball went flying leaving behind a trail of smoke and flames.
"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities. It is the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero."
Aizawa showed the class the result of Bakugo's throw. 705.2m.
"Wow! 705 meters? That's insane!"
"I wanna go! That looks fun!"
"That's what im talking about! Using our quirks as much as we want!"
The class grew excited to show their capabilities. Aizawa glared at them with a slightly scary look.
"So this looks fun? Today you'll compete in 8 physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes last has none and will be expelled immediately!"
Everyone let out a gasp of worry, except a couple of students.
Kaito looked at Midoriya, and saw that he had a specially worried look.
"Isn't that kind of harsh?" Whispered Kirishima.
"Well, it's expected from the U.A." Kaito whispered back.
"You can't send us home, this isn't fair" The cheery brunette girl stepped up.
"Oh, and you think natural disasters are? Or power hungry villains? Or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is full of unfairness, it's a hero job to combat that unfairness. If you wanna be a pro you have to push yourself to the brink. For the next three years U.A will throw one terrible hardship hardship after another at you. So go beyond. Plus ultra style. Show me that is no mistake that you're here."
"That is what I trained for." Smirked Kaito.
After that encouraging speech, pretty convincing btw, the tests begun.
The first test, 50m dash. Kaito waited eagerly for his turn.
"With my steam thrusters, this will be easy." Kaito was up against a blonde haired dude with a black lightning bolt. Once the starting shot went off Kaito blasted his thrusters, quickly reaching the finishing line.
"4.43 seconds!" Said happily the robot as he reached the finishing line, followed by the blonde lightning dude that completed in 7.30 seconds.
"Damn dude! You're fast!" The blonde dude approached smiling.
"Not fast enough it seems, but thanks!"
"I'm Denki Kaminari!" He extends his hand to greet Kaito.
"Kaito Atsuhito, nice to meet you Kaminari!"
The following tests were well balanced, every student is incredibly good at something.
Then the softball throw returned, Uraraka managed to get infinity, blowing everyone's socks off. Kaito stepped up, it was his turn.
"Alright, I'm pretty sure I can't beat infinity, but I'll try." He said comicaly, winning a few smiles.
Kaito grinned as he got ready to throw the softball, stretching his arms. He threw the ball using his steam propulsion, it went flying high leaving a trail of steam behind.
His quirk, his attitude, everything really, reminded Aizawa of someone, an old friend of his. He felt nostalgic seeing the Steamboy in action.
"677 meters!" Said the robot.
"Not bad!" Encouraged Midoriya.
"Ha! Not even close Steam-Punk bastard!" Provoked Bakugo.
"Oh Yeah? Why don't you come up say that to my face, Explosion Boy?"
"What'd you say?! I'll kick your ass!" Bakugo stepped forward, rolling up his sleeves, ready to fight.
"Enough, you two." Said Aizawa, both stepped down.
Next it was Midoriya's turn. He seemed nervous, he didn't manage to get a single good grade on any of the tests.
He prepared to throw the ball, his arm began glowing with some sort of energy, he then threw the ball.
"46 meters!"
Midoriya looked at his hand with a questioning look.
"The judges for this exam, were not rational enough..." Aizawa had a menacing look, his hair and scarf began floating.
"No way..." Kaito muttered.
"No way what? What is happening?" Questioned Kirishima.
"That scarf, those goggles..." Kaito continued.
"You're the Erasure Hero: Eraserhead!" Midoriya completed.
The class began mumbling about, none of them have heard of the hero, or how little they knew about him.
"I wonder if our teacher is giving him some advice?" Wondered Iida.
"Probably told him to start packing." Interjected Bakugo.
Kaito let out a loud chuckle followed by shaking his head negatively.
Midoriya then prepared to throw the ball again, this time the ball goes flying through the air with extreme force and speed. The shockwave left the class with jaws dropped. He even managed to beat Bakugo. Midoriya turned to Aizawa with a smile.
"Mr. Aizawa, I'm still standing.
"This kid.." Aizawa grinned back.
"W-what the hell was that!?" Kaito asked himself, still trying to believe on what just happened. Both shocked and confused, as well as somewhat happy for his friend for achieving that, for all he knew, Midoriya was quirkless, how did he manage to do that?
"Hey!" Bakugo on the other hand, was pissed off. "Deku you bastard! Tell me how you did that or you're dead!" He rushed at Midoriya creating mini blasts with his quirk. Fortunately Aizawa stopped him with his quirk.
"Stop making me use my quirk! It gives me serious dry eye!"
The tests continued for a while, Kaito did pretty good overall.
Finally the results were in.
"Eleventh? I could've done better than that. Oh no..." he looked at the last place, Midoriya.
Kaito turned back to see Midoriya heartbroken, he was about to walk up to Midoriya, when Aizawa spoke up.
"And I was lying, no one is going home. That was just a rational deception to make sure you gave it your all in the tests." He had a grin, a somewhat evil grin by having just tricked the kids and was satisfied.
Kaito let out a relieved steam sigh, as half the class were freaking out.
"I'm surprised the rest of you didn't figure that out." A tall girl with long black hair tied up, spoke. "I guess I should've said something."
"You think?" Added Kaito.
"That's it, we're done for today." Aizawa began walking away. "Pick up a syllabus in the classroom. Read it over before tomorrow morning." He handed Midoriya a slip of paper. "Take this and go have the old lady fix you up. Things are gonna be tougher tomorrow when your actual training begins. Make sure you're prepared."
Kaito noted Midoriya's injury.
"Hey man! That finger looks bad, are you ok? And what was that throw? That was insane!"
"Y-You see, it's kinda complicated." He shyly scrached his head. "I'll talk with as soon as I get out of the infirmary, alright?"
The class soon was over. Kaito awaited for Midoriya at the school gates with Iida.
"I understand you're childhood friends with Midoriya, right?" Iida questioned.
"Yeah. Since elementary school. Why?"
"That Bakugo guy. He mentioned Midoriya being quirkless. But clearly today Midoriya showed a powerful quirk, again."
"That's new for me too." Kaito paused. "Wait, again?" What do you mean again?"
"You didn't know? Midoriya destroyed one of the faux villains at the entrance exam, the one worth zero points."
Kaito was shocked hearing that. How could Midoriya destroy that giant villain?
"Are you ok, Atsuhito? You look spaced
out."
"Uh? I'm fine... Just thinking about some stuff." Kaito grinned, but was seriously questioning everything at this point. "What the hell? That robot was giant. When did he get that kind of power?" He thought.
"Oh, there he is! How's the broken finger doing?" Iida asked as Midoriya approached.
"It's doing fine, thanks to recovery girl."
"I'm glad you're ok, man. But you gotta tell me what's up, did you lie about being quirkless?" Kaito questioned as the three began walking.
"You see, turns out that some people don't awaken their quirks at elementary school like everyone else, it's pretty rare, but it happens." Midoriya explained.
Kaito had a look of suspicion, touching his chin.
"That's bullshit. But I believe it. I was just worried... I mean, your quirk looks dangerous."
"Don't worry, Atsuhito. I got this!"
The trio continued walking, talking about the class.
"Hey! Wait up you three!"
The trio stopped and turned around to see the cheery brunette girl from earlier, running towards them.
"Are you going to the station? I'll join you guys!"
"Oh, you're the infinity girl." Iida points out.
She stopped in front of them, then smiles, looking up to Iida.
"I'm Ochako Uraraka. Let's see, you're Tenya Iida." She turns to Kaito. "You're Kaito Atsuhito, right?"
Kaito looks surprised.
"That's right, how did you know?"
"I Spoke to Kirishima earlier, nice to meet you." She smiled sweetly, then looks at Midoriya. "And your name is Deku, right? Deku Midoriya?"
Midoriya looks taken back hearing that.
"Deku?"
"Yeah, isn't that what Bakugo called you? During the tests he said 'Deku you bastard!', right?" She cutely imitates Bakugo.
"Well, my name is actually Izuku. Deku is what Kacchan calls me to make fun of me." He explained.
"That's unsportsmanlike." Iida pointed out.
"You have no idea." Added Kaito, rolling his eyes.
"Oh, I didn't realize that. I'm sorry. But you know what? I like 'Deku'. It could make a great hero name. Plus, I think it's kinda cute!" She said smiling sweetly.
"Deku it is!" Midoriya shouts out, blushing. Kaito lets out a chuckle, followed by a smug smile.
"Just like that? Weren't you saying that it was an insult?" Iida questioned.
Midoriya began muttering. Kaito looked at his newly made friends, and smiled.
