john
after their successful shopping trip, penelope drove the two of them back to johns home to assist him on choosing a suit.
they walked into the house and john immediately ran upstairs to clear his bedroom floor for penelope to come in.
penelope remained downstairs awkwardly as mimi walked into the hallway to see who she assumed was john.
"oh hello penelope lovely, i didn't expect to see you here, are you alright love? where's john?" she said smiling whilst wiping her hands with a tea towel after obviously washing up.
"hi mimi, nice to see you again, and he's just gone upstairs to tidy his room or something," penelope chuckled.
"goodness, he's not a very good host leaving you stood here, come on i'll make you some tea," she said pulling on penelopes arm.
•
"you two are going to a wedding or something aren't you?" mimi made conversation as she poured their drinks.
"yes on wednesday. john isn't too happy about having to dress in a suit for it though," penelope replied politely thanking mimi for the drink.
"oh john has never liked dressing up, ever since he was a little boy. i'm surprised he agreed to go with you," she smiled, "you know penelope, i haven't seen my john so happy in a very long time, and in these short few weeks you've known him, i've never known him so positive."
"he makes me incredibly happy mimi. really, i adore him," penelope replied wanting to assure his mother-like figure that she felt just as strong towards john.
"you're good for each other, you two. i'm glad he has you-" she went to continue but was disrupted by john calling from upstairs for penelope to go to him.
mimi smiled knowingly at her and nodded her head to the staircase, "go on, john waits for no one."
penelope smiled back at mimi and walked out the kitchen and up the stairs.
•
john waited on the landing for her and pulled her into his room as she neared the top of the stairs.
his room was fairly small with a single bed, a desk and a wardrobe. his desk was full of note pads and doodles sketched onto anything from napkins and receipts to big pieces of card. his walls were covered in music related posters and song lyrics.
on his bed he had laid out two suits, a blue one with dark vague tartan patterns on the blazer and a grey one.
"i don't really have much choice," he nervously laughed scratching the back of his head.
penelope shrugged and picked up the grey suit, "it doesn't matter, try this one on first," she handed it to him smiling and sat on his bed.
he took it off her and took off his sweatshirt leaving him bare chested and revealed his purple mark from the night before making penelope blush. but she didn't look away as he slipped the off-white shirt on buttoning it all the way to the top, then took off his jeans replacing them with dark suit trousers and slipping the dark grey blazer over the top. he turned to penelope and said, "well?"
penelope liked the suit but it looked all too much grey.
she stood up inspecting him before shaking her head, "this blazer it's too businessman-like, put on this one."
she picked up the dark tartan one and pushed his grey blazer off his shoulders dropping it to the floor. she held it out as he turned around letting her help him slip it on.
he faced her again, looking expectantly for her to say something.
her eyes intently raked down his suit clad body.
"so?" he asked.
penelope smiled nodding, "you look so handsome john."
john felt the pink rise in his cheeks, something he'd never done before was blush, yet whilst he was with her she made him feel like a little boy with a crush.
"shut up," he mumbled.
"oh my god is johnny blushing!? did i make johnny blush," she joked wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his cheek.
he rolled his eyes at her moving one of his own hands to rest on her hip.
"i really hope you know i hate this," he joked.
"i do, and i appreciate you coming with me. i don't really want to go either," he frowned at her comment,
"well why are we going then?"
"melanie, who's wedding it is, is a ripe bitch, but i'm going for anne. anne deserves much more respect off her children than she gets so i just want to remind her that i'm there for her."
"you're too kind for this world penelope," john smiled admiring her.
she kissed him softly but pulled back too soon for johns liking saying that she needs to get home because her and charlotte are going out for dinner.
he groaned but walked her out the house after she bid farewell to mimi.
he walked to her car opening the drivers side door for her and leaning against it.
"i'll see you on wednesday yeah?" she asked as he gently took ahold of one of her hands.
"yeah, i cant wait," he replied sarcastically.
she rolled her eyes, "i appreciate it more than you know john, believe me."
he smiled at her, "i know, i'm just joking pen."
she smiled back at him and looked at her watch, "i should be going but call me later yeah?"
he nodded furiously at her, "okay, i'll miss you."
"i'll miss you too."
he bent down to kiss her lightly on the lips and let her climb into the car and drive off.
•
he stood as he watched her car drive out of the street but a girls voice broke him out of the trance, "who knew john lennon would be pining over a girl?"
he snapped his head around immediately recognising the high pitched earache.
"daisy." he simply replied.
daisy was a short brunette with hair that was always tightly pinned up. she was one of the regular girls john would waste time with before he met penelope.
"haven't seen you in a while, where you been?" she asked popping a bubble with the gum in her mouth.
"busy." he replied bluntly turning to start walking up the pathway to his front door.
"with her? i thought john lennon didn't do 'serious relationships', or is she just a good fuck?" she smirked making john spin on his heel.
"people change, you should try it some time."
she scoffed but before he could give her any more time to reply, he walked into his home slamming the door behind him.
john hated himself for the life he led before meeting penelope. he wished he could go back and change everything but he couldn't. and he needed to face the fact that there would be people who would try and ruin things for him. but as long as he made sure to always tell penelope the absolute truth before it came to bite him in the ass, he knew they would be alright.
