The Album
Prince's POV
Prince was ecstatic that he had just finished the vocals on the last song for his first album. The Title came from the first track, If I Love You. He had worked on it for 10 months and Arista was quite pleased with the outcome. It combined what Arista thought would be a niche for him...Love Ballads and some Rock and of course some works about his Faith. The two tracks that would go out as Singles were If I Love You and I Love You Still which had come about because of something that Bella had said to him shortly after they met in this incarnation. The third single would be a cover of the Artist Prince's When 2 R In Love . This was one of Prince's favorites of his prolific ancestor's works. He found it to be honest and to speak to the universal and timeless truth of human love. The sound engineers were basically in charge now although Prince would drive them crazy if not for the intervention of Carlos and of course Bella. He still had difficulty with surrendering control on any part of his work to others...even those that were being paid to do the technical work of production. Being a perfectionist was his nature when it came to music...but he needed to be reminded of the the importance of collaboration and the value of synergy at times.
Prince had been in the studio all night and frankly needed a shower, some food and some sleep. It was the summer after Bella's Sophomore Year, but good to her promise to herself she had carried double the load of classes than the norm for the last two years and had gone to summer school the summer of her Freshman year to ensure that she would graduate early. She had taken this summer off and was spending it with Prince, Elaine and Carlos in Los Angeles. But even so, she would graduate a year early and complete undergraduate school in the spring of next year.
Prince had been working himself too hard and had several meltdowns which she fortunately was able to help him with mostly by phone but she was concerned about him. To his credit he had not attacked the band, but his stress level was extremely high and it was affecting his mental and physical well being. She had to come to LA on the last one he was so distraught. The more he worked the greater the fallout from the Universe's direction of his music. His mind and physical body was deeply effected by that fallout which became greater the more fatigued he was. He did much better when Bella was around. She was the only one who could get him to leave the studio at a reasonable hour consistently but without her around that just did not happen. Even Carlos could not get through to him on that and if he was going to have the family he hoped for and be around to raise his children and love his wife into old age, he needed to become as disciplined about balancing his life as he was about his music. Bella would help him with this and he would rely upon her guidance in this area for his entire life.
Prince thanked the band and all of the techs and then he and Carlos jumped into the BMW Air Car and headed for home. He enjoyed actually driving the car much of the time, but despite the beautiful weather and the clear sky this morning, he took to the air because he really wanted to get home. It was 4:30 AM when he landed in front of the duplex and maneuvered his way in to the small garage. He fist bumped Carlos and said he would talk to him later. Prince put on some of the new music, dropped the top and they were on their way. There was something about the ocean spray as you drove that was wonderful. They decided to walk down the pier and get some ice cream. As they walked Carlos asked, "Hey Prince did you talk to Andy in the last few days,"? I talked to him yesterday and he said that the guy we originally talked to from Sony was joining Arista this month. "You mean Jimmy Sanders"? "Yeah". "In what capacity". " He is going to be over Black Music", Carlos said. "That is a step down for him isn't it, Prince said? "I think he was over all of A and R at Sony". "Yes he was" Carlos replied. "Exactly", Carlos said. Prince was not thrilled to hear about this guy joining Arista. He didn't think they would get along. But he really was not that concerned. He would be in a completely different division. They ate their ice cream and started the walk back to the car. Bella asked what they wanted for dinner..."that's easy, Spaghetti with meat sauce", Prince said grinning and ...Bella said "I know, Orange Juice". They all laughed and Prince stopped by the grocery store on the way home. Bella and Elaine went in and got the ingredients while Prince and Carlos stayed in the car playing some of the new music. The ladies rolled the groceries out in a cart and Carlos put them in the trunk. They headed for home and Bella and Elaine prepared Prince's favorite meal.
The two couples enjoyed their 2 leisurely days but then Prince and Carlos had to head back into the studio to review the mixing of the first 3 tracks. They were going in at 10 this morning. Bella reminded Prince that he needed to be on his way out of there no later than 10 PM as she set the table for breakfast with 4 place settings. She had gotten up early and made his favorite muffins, Blueberry/Cranberry with lots of butter. There was also a Cantaloupe Quarter for each of them and Blueberry Yogurt. He had to start taking better care of himself she said. He looked sheepish and said he knew she was right. Bella went into the bedroom and reached into her carry all and pulled out a small box. She set it next to Prince's place setting at the table. The 4 of them sat down and held hands as Prince said grace and then Prince looked at the little box and grinning said "what's this"? The Watch Face had contemporary numbers with a diamond for the number 12 and Bella showed him that there was, among the many applications on it, an alarm that was set on vibrate for 9:30 PM, it would ring again at 10:00 PM. He laughed leaned over and kissed her saying thank you and they ate their breakfast. Prince told Bella to be on the lookout for the doorbell around 11:00 AM and kissed her again, on the lips this time and headed to the car. "For what" Bella asked. "You'll see", he said walking out of the door. Elaine walked Carlos to door and then the two ladies cleaned up the kitchen. Bella was sitting in her favorite spot enjoying some music with her friend and the marvelous view when the doorbell rang. She opened the door and a guy in a suit and tie with the words Sunset Motor Cars embroidered on his jacket pocket was standing on the porch with a clip board in his hand. In the driveway sat a gold Nissan Altima Aircar. "Miss Borden" he asked? "Yes" Bella said. "Royal Anderson leased this vehicle for you. I need your signature right here". "What" Bella squealed? "Would you like me to review the features with you"? "Yes please". Elaine came running to the door and seeing the car she squealed too. Bella and Elaine went outside and Bella got in the driver's seat and Elaine got in the back. The guy whose name was Bradley got in the passenger seat and began to review the features of the vehicle. She had driven many aircars since she had gotten her license at 16, but this one was really cool! Going back into the house after signing the delivery form, Bella called Prince. Bella and Elaine took the new car for a spin. They went for an actual ride down Sunset and went to Spagos for lunch. It was one of the longest in business eateries in the city hailing back to the 20th Century. Then they decided to go to Rodeo Drive to window shop, still also really driving . They were gone for most of the day but when they went home they did not have to cook because there was lots of Spaghetti left and Prince never got tired of Spaghetti and Carlos would eat just about anything. What a fun day they had. They arrived home at about 6 PM and laid down to take a nap on the sofa and the chaise in the living room. When she woke Bella was hungry and decided she would warm up dinner for Elaine and herself and then feed Prince and Carlos when they got in. At 8 PM Bella made a salad and doused it with Italian dressing. She pulled out the Garlic bread to heat and put the Spaghetti and homemade meat sauce into a pot on the stove. She turned it on low to warm. She set the table and then went into the living room to turn on Cloud Stream. She was watching the national news on when she heard Prince turning the key in the door. She ran and hugged him and said "you are home early...dinner will be ready in about 15 minutes". "Smiling that smile that said he was pleased with himself he said, "I hope its your Spaghetti left overs". " It is" she said, "with Garlic Bread and a salad". "Yum" he said. "I am going to take a shower" he said. Elaine and Carlos had gone into their room when the men came in. She could hear giggling coming from that side of the house and heard the water turn on in Prince's bathroom. When he came out, he had put on some grey casual slacks and a pullover grey silk blend shirt He also had on some grey flip flops. Bella went to Carlos's door , knocked and said, "dinner is ready" and went back to the kitchen. Carlos and Elaine joined Prince and Bella and Carlos said grace as they held hands and they ate. Prince shared he was really happy with the mixing of the first 3 tracks. Carlos agreed. "They were perfection". They had to go to a meeting at Arista records tomorrow and would hopefully hear the mixed results for three more tracks the next day. " What is the meeting going to be about" Elaine asked. "Promotion for the new Album", Prince said. "Great", Bella said. She was interested in how they were going to promote his first project and was really excited to hear. Bella looked across the table at Prince. The dark circles under his eyes were barely discernible now and he seemed really relaxed and happy. She still wanted him to gain back some weight though. She would not say anything; she would just keep feeding him. Carlos and Elaine took kitchen duty and Bella and Prince went into the living room.

Bella's POV
Sitting down on the couch, she asked him how many songs were going to be on the Album? He said "12". "What were the other tracks", Bella asked? There would be 6 originals written by Royal and Royal and Carlos and then 6 others by his ancestor Prince Rogers Nelson. "Which Prince songs did they select"? Prince got up and went into the bedroom and pulled the final song selections that he and Carlos had agreed on out of his valise. Other than If I Love You which would definitely be the first track as the album's title, they had not yet decided play order for the album. They would make that decision as part of the meeting tomorrow. But the songs selected were:

Prince watched Bella as she read the selection list. "Prince", Bella asked as she finished reading the list, "you are including Bella's Eyes" on the album? Prince said "I am" and smiled. She turned and faced him still sitting on the couch and gave him the biggest hug and loving kiss. "Thank you baby". Prince had told her the story of how he had come to write Bella's Eyes. It was before he had seen her for the first time in this new life at The Stork Club. He had seen her eyes as he played music since he was a very little boy and had thought of her as his "special lady with the almond shaped eyes". As he grew into his teen years he longed for her and wondered how long it would be before he found her. During a tough time of missing her at 16 years old he had written the song, but had changed some verses after meeting her again. It was a song that told her how the memory of her eyes had kept him going, pushed him to graduate from college early, was inspiration for him to work harder for success and was going to be one of the songs sung at their wedding. It told her and now would tell the entire world how much she meant to him, how much he loved her. He gave her a loving kiss back and said "No Bella; thank you". Bella knew that the Album was going to be a success and she was looking forward to traveling with Prince some when he toured depending on when it began. But most of all she was looking forward to getting out of school and becoming his wife.
Moments like this, hearing him share his motivation for Bella's Eyes reminded Bella of just how fortunate she was to have this beautiful man as her own. He had come so far since she had met him in Paradise so long ago and he continued to grow. Gone were the days of heated angry words with those he cared about. If there was a disagreement with Bella or Carlos or his parents, he always listened and considered what was being said. He didn't storm out in anger if something pricked his feelings but was learning instead to share how the words said had made him feel. He felt safe with Bella and knew that she would never abandon him. Sometimes he did as was being requested or suggested, other times he took a different course, but he was learning to become more diplomatic in how he dealt with the ideas of others and Bella was very proud of him. Carlos and Elaine coming into the living room brought her out of her revelry and returned her to the present. "Wanna play some monopoly", Carlos asked? "Bring it on" Prince said. They spent the rest of the evening playing a rousing game of monopoly. Prince knew he had an advantage as the Angels had taught him to play in Paradise just as they had Amiir and he was a great player...of course he won! Little did they know that the meeting tomorrow was going to change a great many things in their lives...but tonight for both of these loving couples, everything was perfect. They finished their game and went to bed.
