Time skip:
It's been a year and a half since Dani has started working for Tony and she couldn't be happier. There were a few times where Dani had to go over the road to pick up some things for Tony's projects and the routes she'd take she was able to stop by her home town and see her father, gram, and aunts. They loved seeing the truck and how her hard work was paying off. Nat, Wanda and Dani have become inseparable. Nat had gone off on a mission and has been gone for a few weeks. So Dani and Wanda have been spending more time together and they found out that their both twins! Although Wanda had said that her brother had passed away on a mission they were on a while ago. Tony has asked Dani to build a special anniversary car for Pepper. They've talked about a few options but decided on a decent 1957 Chevy Bel Air. Tony is leaving all creative decisions up to Dani. Tony has already paid for the car and Dani is going to go pick it up with her truck and gooseneck trailer she bought.
Dani is getting ready to go but sees Wanda sitting an watching tv and asks,
"Hey Wands, are you up for a little road trip? I'm going to go pick a car up for Tony and could use the company."
"Yeah sure! It's better than sitting here bored waiting for Nat to get back." Wanda say as she get up from the couch.
"Cool I'll grab my keys I gotta hook the trailer up and we'll be on our way." Dani says excitedly.
The two of them hit the road Wanda had put 'Man I Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain' They both look at each other and scream,
"Let's go girls!"
They're having a blast singing on top of their lungs an eating a bunch of candy and junk food. When they to the location they meet the old guy who sold the car to them they chat a little before loading the car up. Dani straps it down good, double checks the trailer lights and then thanks the old man for everything.
Dani and Wanda stop at a diner for some dinner since the junk food and candy didn't really cut it. They're waiting for their food they start talking about how they miss Nat and can't wait until she gets home. They both inhale their food and hit the road again once they get back to the compound Dani backs the trailer into the shop. Where she has Wanda guide her down the ramps and she helps Dani push the car in between the lift. Tony comes down to the shop to check out the car and he is thrilled at the condition of the car.
"Hey Dani I'll let you and Tony talk. That was a fun road trip thanks for bringing me!" Wanda waves and heads upstairs.
"No problem Wands! Maybe we can actually finish Grease after I'm done down here." Dani yells.
Wanda puts a thumbs up as she continues up the stairs.
"So I'm not really sure what motor is in this or if it runs but I do know that the suspension is going to need to be changed. It's for sure going to need brake conversion kit! Look it's got the original drum brakes all the way around! I'll crack into it tomorrow if that's cool with you." Dani says while still admiring the car.
"Yeah that fine with me I'm grateful you were able to get it here this fast. Get a list together and we can go from there. Go have a good rest of your night." Tony says as he goes over the car.
Dani heads up stairs to change into some sweat pants and a t-shirt then heads over to Wanda's room as she knocks on the door,
"Hey you ready to watch a movie?"
"Yeah that's fine with me it's my turn to pick one this time." Wanda picked 'Don't Breathe" as she puts the movie on Dani shuts the lights off and sits next to Wanda on the bed.
"You know I don't really get scared during scary movies. I usually just laugh at them." Dani says before the movie starts.
"We'll see about." Wanda says as she elbows Dani in the ribs playfully.
Halfway through the movie Dani's and Wanda's phones buzz causing them to both jump it's a group message from Nat.
Nat:
Hey guys I just wanted to fill you in on what I've been doing these past few weeks. I ended up getting in contact with my sister who I haven't seen in almost 20 years. She was under some kind of chemical mind control but she was freed by another widow. I'll tell you guys more in depth tomorrow.
Dani:
Wait what the fuck!?!?!?
Wanda:
You have a sister!!!
Dani:
OMG!
Wanda:
We're not going to be able to sleep!
Dani:
Right! We've missed you!
Nat:
I've missed you guys too but I need to get some sleep and I'll see you two tomorrow
Dani and Wanda end up finishing the movie but they laid there wide awake and giddy like two kids on Christmas Eve anxious for their friends return. After a few hours the exhaustion set in and they fell asleep. Dani had a wake up call for 6:30am so she groaned but before she rolled out of bed Wanda smacked her with a pillow for waking her up.
"I'm sorry I forgot I told Tony I'd come in this morning but I never said what time.. I'll buy you a coffee later to apologize. I gotta get the dogs out an fed so I'll see you later Wands." Dani says still tired.
"You better hope that the coffee has some kind of magic in it for waking me up!" Wanda says in a groggy voice but rolls over and goes back to bed.
Dani gets dressed for work, wrangles the dogs to get them outside and fed. Once they're done eating she lets them roam free since everyone has met them and their comfortable with everyone too. But for the most part they somehow always end up in Wanda's room cuddled up on the bed when she's not on missions. Dani makes some coffee and heats up some toaster strudles for breakfast. She munches on them as she heads down to the garage. She unlocks her toolbox then heads over to the '57 and starts to mess with it. She hooks up a battery and throws so gasoline down the carburetor the motor sputters but not much else. She starts to write a few things down when Tony walks in.
"How's it going?"
"So far the motor spins free but I looked at engine stamp it's a 283 small block. I was thinking we'd put a either an 572 or at least a 454 in it. Unless you think the 572 might be a little too much power. Then I can throw in a 454 with a 700R4 in it since they're a dime a dozen. Then I can get the upgraded suspension." Dani says as she sips on her coffee.
"We'll go with the 454 and 700R4 since you've already know that combo well. I ordered the brake conversion kit it should be here in a little bit. As for the suspension I want to do something that will take corners well but not feel every bump in the road." Tony says.
"Ok that's cool with me as far as the suspension I'll have to do some research to see what will work best. I'm going to start ripping the motor and trans out while I wait for the brake kit. It's gonna be one badass lookin car when I'm finished with it." Dani says looking over at the car.
Tony chuckles, "I trust you kid. I'm gonna go get some breakfast I'll catch ya later."
Time skip
(A few hours later)
Dani has her phone hooked up to the speakers and is jamming out to the album 'Half the City by St. Paul and the Broken bones'. Dani has the engine on stand and the transmission is on the work bench. Just then an old delivery guy comes in with a dolly and boxes he says,
"I've got some packages for a Mr. Tony Stank?"
Dani bursts into laughter but replies, "Yes, I work for Mr. Stank, I'll sign the papers."
He unloads the boxes and waves goodbye. Dani repeats 'Mr. Stank' to herself and cracks up again.
She moves the lift arms under the car and begins lifting it up so she doesn't have to bend over to take the wheels off. She goes around the car and zips all the lugs off setting them on her roll cart. She ends up having to take a sledge hammer to beat the rims off it's been a while since they were removed so she put on some ear muffs and starts to beat the rims. Once she gets them free she sets the wheels off to the side.
Tony comes into check on Dani and to let her know that Natasha and her sister had made it back.
"Damn. I thought You'd have all these drums changed by now. But I came to let you know that Nat's home and she'll be down in a couple seconds."
"First of all Mr. Stank! These rims and tires haven't been off in 40+ years! Yay!" Dani says.
"Wait, what did you call me?" Tony asks confused.
"Oh, yeah the delivery guy called you that when he dropped the packages off. That's my new name for you now I'm gonna change it to your contact name in my phone too!" Dani says laughing while she beats the drums off the axle.
"YOU better not! Nat will never let me live it down!" Tony says pouting.
Just then Nat walks in with Yelena,
"I'll never let you live what down Tony?"
"Oh, it's nothing that concerns you Nat. So how was your trip?" Tony asks trying to change the subject.
"Ow! Fuck! you stupid piece of shit!" Dani yells as she had smashed her thumb while spinning the drum while she hits it to loosen the rust on the last brake drum.
"Heh. Who's that? They seem funny." Yelena asks in her thick Russian accent.
"That's Dani she's one of my best friends you want me to introduce you? Oh and I'm going to ask Dani about what you we're talking about later." Nat says as her and Yelena walk over to Dani.
"Sounds like you've got a grudge with this car Dani." Nat says smirking.
"Nat! Hey! No I'm just a dumbass and wasn't paying attention to where I was swinging and hit my thumb." Dani says as she lifts her shaky hand showing them her swollen thumb.
"Oh shit! You're going to need some ice for that before you won't be able to move it." Yelena says.
"Dani this is my sister Yelena Belova the one I told you about." Nat says.
"Hey. Nice to meet you Yelena. I'd shake your hand but I don't think you'd want to get covered in oil and grease. Do you guys want to come upstairs with me so I can get some ice? It's almost my lunch break." Dani says as she walks out from under the car and walks over to the sink to wash up. She winces a little while she scrubs the stubborn grease of her hands since it hurts to move her thumb.
All three of them walk up stairs Dani heads to the fridge to get some crushed ice to put in a ziploc bag then she pulls out a roll of electrical tape from her pocket and wraps it around her thumb using her teeth to cut the tape off the roll.
"Ah that's better but I think I may have broken my thumb cause it's black and blue and I can barely move it. Ha! that's cool I've never broken a bone before!"
Nat and Yelena look at one another like she's crazy.
"Well you should go see Bruce he should be in the lab he can take an X-ray for you so you know for sure." Nat says concerned.
"I like this one. It reminds me of how we almost died in that helicopter over that prison with the avalanche I caused by accident. It would've been a cool way to die." Yelena says with a laugh.
"Wait.. what? An avalanche?! I've never seen one of those up close before that would've been awesome!" Dani says enthusiastically totally skipping over the part where they almost died.
"The both of you are going to be the death of me. You know that? But Dani get your ass moving to go see Bruce." Nat says sternly.
"But I haven't gotten to eat yet.. you know what it's like when I'm hangry Nat. Besides there's not much you can do with a broken thumb all he's gonna to is tape it. And I already have tape here." Dani says as she pulls the electrical tape from her pocket again.
"Oh my God! You're worse than a child sometimes Dani. But get your food and eat. Then Yelena and I are personally going to escort you to Bruce." Nat says rolling her eyes.
"You can be such a mom sometimes Nat. But let's get this show on the road." Dani says annoyed while she eats her sandwich and heads towards the lab.
Yelena chuckles under her breath. Nat whips her head around and says,
"It's not funny.. but you two seem like you'd get along together. I can only imagine the chaos that will ensue and I'll be the one to clean it up."
"You know you're right. It'll be fun! Plus that's what big sister are for aren't they?" Yelena says following behind Nat.
"Are you two slowpokes coming? I thought you were escorting me? This feels more of a follow the leader situation. In that case you can't catch me! Hey F.R.I.D.A.Y. play 'Bad by Michael Jackson!' on the hallway speakers!" Dani yells as she bolts down the hallway in the opposite direction of the lab with the song blasting.
"What the hell! You better not let me catch you! If I do I'm gonna kick your ass!" Nat yells chasing after Dani.
Yelena follows behind, "Oh this is gonna be good!"
Dani weaves through hallways dodging other Avengers in the hallway she makes it to Wanda's room.
"Dani!? Why is Michael Jackson blasting in the hallway?" Wanda asks confused.
Out of breath she says, "Shhhhh. Nat's chasing me and she's pissed! Also I lost my boots two hallways back. Keep Chevy and Diesel on the bed with you."
Dani climbs up into Wanda's closet and hides on one of the high shelves. Ten seconds later Nat and Yelena walk in.
"Hey Wanda. Have you seen Dani? She's supposed to go to the lab and see Bruce about her broken thumb."
"Hey Nat! Um no I haven't, I did see her run past though. You must be Nat's sister. I'm Wanda." Wanda says as she gets off the bed to give Nat a hug.
As soon as Wanda gets off the bed Chevy and Diesel jump off the bed and whimper at the closet door. The three women turn and look at the dogs.
"Hmm. I wonder why the dogs are whining?" Nat says as she opens the closet door and looks around.
"Are you serious?! How did you even get up there?" Nat says trying to pull Dani off the shelf but Dani is flailing her arms and legs she ends up hitting the ground.
"Ooof! I'm part spider monkey didn't you know that? And here I thought my dogs would have my back! I guess not traitors!" Dani says sarcastically.
"Quit playing! Let's go Dani." Nat says slapping the back of Dani's head and pulling her by her ear out of Wanda's room.
"Ow, ow, ow! I'm sorry Nat. I missed you. Loneliness makes people act out you know? Can you let go of my ear please?" Dani says whining.
"I missed you too. I call bullshit on the whole loneliness you had Wanda here. But your stubborn ass is going to get checked out either way." Nat laughs while giving Dani a hug and they go to the lab.
Yelena and Wanda are hanging back while they talk about the mission and how cute Chevy and Diesel are.
Bruce x-rays Dani's thumb and confirms it's broke but it's not too serious so he makes a splint and tapes it up for her.
"See it wasn't that bad now was it?" Nat asks.
"I guess not, but you can't lie you had fun with our little game." Dani smirks.
"It was fun to see the terror in your eyes when I yanked you off the shelf." Nat shoves Dani playfully and laughs.
"I guess I have to tell Tony I broke my thumb. And see what he says I mean I broke my left thumb and I'm right handed." Dani says.
"Ok well I'll let you get to it. I'm going to show Yelena her room and go shower. We'll be hanging out in the common room when you're done." Nat says leaving the lab.
Dani walks over to Tony's office and knocks on the doorframe since the door was open.
"Hey kid what up?" Tony says with his back turned staring at his computer.
"Well.. while I was beating the drums off the '57 I ended up catching my thumb and broke it. It's my left thumb. It's not serious I'm patched up already." Dani says embarrassed.
"Well at least it's not too serious. It's up to you if you feel you can still work and if not that's cool too." Tony says as he turns to face Dani.
"Well you know me I can't sit still for too long so I'll probably still tinker around with the '57. I can still drive if you've got some loads that need picked up too." Dani says.
"Well just take it easy. You need to heal ok?" Tony says sweetly.
"You've got it boss!" Dani salutes but winces forgetting about her thumb.
"You're a dweeb. Go do something and leave me be." Tony says jokingly.
Dani walks to her room and changes out of her work clothes and lays on the bed. She decides to take a nap since she didn't get much sleep the night before Dani whistles and both the dogs come running into her room.
"Good pups, ah easy my thumb! come on lay down it's nap time." Dani says to the dogs.
It's been a few hours since Dani fell asleep when she's woken up by Diesel jumping on her stomach to get off the bed. Dani gasps for air,
"Ugh.. what.. the.. fuck Diesel? Dude you're heavy!"
"Sorry, I didn't know he was going to do that your door was open and I came to see if you wanted to go get dinner with Yelena, Wanda, and I. I can tell you more about the mission too." Nat says as she pets Diesel.
"Yeah that's cool we can take my truck if you want I just cleaned it the other day. I am going to need a shower before we go out though so I'll meet you guys down stairs." Dani says as she staggers up and head towards the bathroom.
"Sounds like a plan I'll see you down stairs. C'mon Diesel and Chevy lets get you guys fed and outside so your mom can get ready." Nat says as both dogs heel at her side and follow her down.
"Thank you Nat!" Dani shouts from the bathroom.
Dani heads down stairs where she sees all three women fighting to get the attention of her dogs.
She laughs, "The best way to get their attention is to be a giant yellow tennis ball or their favorite treats! Y'all ready to go? Cause I'm starving!"
They all pile into Dani's truck Nat and Wanda are in the back seat while Yelena is up front with Dani. She begins to drive as she hands her phone to Yelena an says,
"The first time your sister rode in the truck I let her pick the music she chose a pretty good song too. So now it's you're turn to choose a song. No pressure." Dani winks.
"I've got this!" Yelena says confidently as she scrolls through she sees one of her favorite songs and turns to look at Nat with a devilish grin. She chose 'American Pie by Don Mclean'
As soon as the intro begins to play through the speakers Nat yells,
"AHHHH! NO! Please change it! Yelena played this song over and over again for hours on the way back! I'm sick of it!"
Everyone laughs when Dani says,
"Hey now I let you pick the first time you rode in the truck. It's Yelena's turn now don't make me turn this truck around!"
Wanda and Yelena bust out laughing while Nat's scowls. Nat starts to pout before she can start complaining again Dani sees Nat in the rearview mirror about to speak she turns the volume up and sings over what Nat's trying to say.
"I got you Yelena. This is one of my favorites to play on long road trips in the truck." Dani leans in and says. She, Yelena and Wanda are all singing on the top of their lungs.
"Don't be such a grump ass Romanoff. It'll be over in a few mins then it's on shuffle." Dani says smirking. To which Nat rolls her eyes and looks out the window.
