Chapter 4 Part 7: The Third Flashback Light

Start from the beginning

Flashes of what looked like a meteor shower were shown, seemingly causing destruction though a city. Flashes of what seemed like protests appeared as well. It was all clear, just by those two images that went through my skull.

I remembered everything. The meteorites, the protests. All of it was on the news. Everyone wouldn't stop talking about those events that unfolded. Many places were destroyed and it was only a matter of time before the world would end because of it.
I could feel the feeling of dread in my body as those images became clear to me. It was what I feared with these devices. The memories they gave us were ones filled with tragedy and despair. The important memories we were receiving were always that way. It couldn't be helped, because most memories would be traumatic like these ones.
Looking around the room, I noticed dread on everyone's faces. I wasn't the only one with a sick feeling in my stomach. This seemed like a pattern to me. Someone tried to kill someone... I would bring them back, and then we unlocked new areas of the school as well as new memories from these Flashback Lights. It was a nausea inducing pattern, basically diminishing any type of hope that we could have on getting out of here.
"T-The meteorites..." I stuttered, "I-I remember the meteorites..."
"I remember...TV news and the Internet talkin' non-stop about those meteorites!" Keebo exclaimed.
"There was a bunch of damage where I lived..." Tsumugi explained, "people said it was only a matter of time..."
"So what happened to everyone!?" Tenko asked with a horrified look on her face.
"Perhaps Atua has taken all of them into his living care," Angie replied with a praying position.
"For the love of god, Angie, shut the fuck up about that Atua guy!" Miu shouted, "that doesn't give us any fuckin' answers to the situation right now!"
"Can you all just calm down for a minute?" Kaede asked, "we aren't going to get anywhere when we all are fighting like this!"
I knew Kaede was right. With Miu arguing with Angie, we wouldn't get anywhere. It was that line that would start a huge fight. It was obvious to me that Kaede didn't want this to escalate into something worse. That's why I agreed with her. We couldn't let everyone submit into paranoia. I couldn't let myself submit to it either.
Like Tenko, I was wondering what happened to everyone. These asteroids were talked about by many news stations and the internet as well. Chances were these meteors would've caused the end of the world. That thought caused my heart to start thumping in my chest, picking up speed like the change of tempo in a song. What if the world did end because of this... chances are, it did, and we could be the only ones left.
"We need to get back on topic," Maki stated, "I do agree with what Tsumugi said. A researcher said that too. Similar meteorite impacts happened millions of years ago... all living organisms on Earth were annihilated..."
"There were also a bunch of weird groups that started to show up in the streets," Kaito explained.
That was in fact true. I saw a flash of the groups that were protesting in the streets. It was all about the meteorites. The memory of the impacts started playing through my head as if it were on loop. It wasn't a nice thing to see, and I wanted the image out of my head.
"As the meteorites got worse, more people started saying it was the end of the world..." Kaito explained.
"Gonta hear that, too!" Gonta exclaimed, "unless someone does something, world will end!"
What Gonta said reminded me of something. While walking around in the area I lived in, it seemed like at every corner, someone tried to hand me some sort of flyer. It always happened. No matter where I went or what I did, there was always someone who was trying to get me to take a flyer.
"Those people have a track record of trying to get people to accept flyers..." Tenko muttered, "and it was always a degenerate male trying to force me to take one!"
"I-I know..." Himiko stuttered, "th-those people were...always handing out flyers on street corners..."
The flyers the people were trying to force upon me were ones that said "Mankind deserves damnation". It was a shock to me when I first saw them. People thought that way about each other, and it startled me every time I saw one of those flyers.
"I saw flyers all over the city, too," Keebo explained, "they said, 'Mankind deserves damnation',"
It seemed like no matter where I went, or what I did, I would see those posters all over the walls of the area in which I lived. People who hated me also tried making me take the posters. They all had the same reason for doing it. The people that blamed me and wanted me dead for what happened to the friend who liked my sister... they all thought it was my fault that this was happening. They all called me a cursed child... one that was born as a curse to all mankind.
All of it was clear to me... I could feel my breathing start to become labored. Everything that I remembered from that was crystal clear to me. I clutched the fabric that was on my chest as I felt the pain of something that I haven't felt in a little while. I was hyperventilating, trying to get air into my lungs, but it seemed the my breathing was too fast to successfully get any air into my lungs.
I was panicking too much to notice everyone around me, seeming to notice what state I was in. I could feel the warm tears exit my eyes as I continued to hyperventilate, trying to successfully breath.
